Guest Post: Five of the Best Boondockers Welcome Properties for Fishing

We’ve trawled the Boondockers’ Welcome database for some of the best properties in the network to enjoy some great fishing.

From trout and salmon to crappie and largemouth bass, these picturesque properties are great for RVers who love to catch fish. One even offers deep sea fishing charters nearby!

Staying at any of these locations puts you close to the water. In some cases, these hosts actually back on to waterways, or are less than a mile away from renowned fishing rivers and lakes.

The hosts keep a close eye on the angling situation in their area and speak highly of the fishing opportunities on offer.

Where the Antelope Play (Casper, Wyoming)

This property outside the little town of Casper Wyoming is right near the legendary North Platte River, a renowned trout stream. The North Platte is one of the most productive trout rivers in North America and is a great spot for fly fishers to catch large brown and rainbow trout (see here for a list of the gear required). The hosts also advise that it is common to see pronghorn antelope in the field across from the property and there is excellent hiking and cultural attractions in this beautiful part of Wyoming.

Fort Kent Fish River Retreat (Fort Kent, Maine)

This property backs on to the Fish River, a popular spot for swimming, canoeing and fishing for salmon and trout. The river is readily accessible and despite its fishing qualities, doesn’t receive too much angling pressure. It flows through picturesque country until it joins the St John River. The town of Fort Kent, situated amid rolling hills and farmland, has basic amenities and a brewery.

Lynn’s Pastural Pond Retreat (Overbrook, Kansas)

This host’s property lies amidst some great lake fishing for largemouth and smallmouth basscatfish, crappie and walleye. There are six lakes within a 12 mile radius of the property including Pomona Reservoir and Clinton Reservoir, which offers some decent bass fishing. Topeka, the capital of Kansas, is just 20 minutes drive away from the property.

Deep Creek (Ninilchik, Alaska)

This remote property is close to some of the best fishing on Alaska’s Kenai Peninsula. It is a few miles from the mouth of the Ninilchik River, which hosts runs of steelhead, King Salmon, Pink Salmon and Silver Salmon. While the salmon fishing on the property itself is catch and release, the river has a resident population of dolly varden (char), which the host says are keepers! There are also deep sea fishing charters available in the area.

Falcon Mesa (Zapata, Texas)

This property is situated in the heart of the Lone Star state’s best largemouth bass fishing. It sits half a mile from Falcon Lake, which made Bassmaster’s list of the top 100 bass lakes. The town of Falcon was rated one of the World Fishing Network’s 20 Ultimate Fishing Towns.
