Get Ready for a New Boondockers Welcome Site

Back in May, we announced that Boondockers Welcome had merged with Harvest Hosts, and told you to look forward to some exciting changes.

Over the past few months, our team has been hard at work to improve the Boondockers Welcome user experience by creating a single website for both Boondockers Welcome and Harvest Hosts with a range of new features that work across both networks. We will be launching this new site in October, and we wanted to share a sneak peek and also a few tips on getting prepared for the new site experience.

On launch, all your Boondockers Welcome data including your profiles, past stays and messages, references from other members, etc, will be available on the new integrated site.

As a reminder, Boondockers Welcome and Harvest Hosts will continue to operate as separate programs, each of which require a separate membership. For those of you with active accounts on both programs, we will merge the website and app experience at launch.

🌱  New Features Coming Soon

We’re excited to announce a range of new features that will be available on the new site:

  • Single sign-on to access both the Boondockers Welcome and Harvest Hosts networks on the same website or mobile app (for members with accounts on both sites)

  • Integrated search functionality to view both Boondockers Welcome and Harvest Hosts locations on a single map (for members with accounts on both sites)

  • "Search by Route" functionality to find Boondockers Welcome locations along your journey

  • Customizable “Trip” boards so that you can save Boondockers Welcome host locations for future reference as you’re planning your route

  • Redesigned Boondockers Welcome member and host location profiles that better showcase your information, travel preferences, and location details

  • And more!

✅  Getting Ready

We’re asking for all Boondockers Welcome members to take a few simple steps to make this a smooth transition process:

  1. Make note of your email address for your Boondockers Welcome account. Login on the new integrated site will be by email address only, not by username, so knowing it will be key!

*️⃣  View/Update your Boondockers Welcome email address here
  2. Use the same email address for both Boondockers Welcome and Harvest Hosts accounts. For those members that currently have accounts on both programs, we will merge them so you can access integrated functionality, but it is imperative that you ensure both accounts have the same primary email address before the merge in early October.

*️⃣  View/Update your Boondockers Welcome email address here
*️⃣  View/Update your Harvest Hosts email address here
  3. Download the Harvest Hosts Mobile App. With the launch of the new Boondockers Welcome site experience in October, we will be phasing out the Boondockers Welcome mobile app. At that point, Boondockers Welcome members will need to use the Harvest Hosts mobile app. We suggest that you download it now so you have it ready for launch. Please note that the current Boondockers Welcome app will remain live until the new site launches.

*️⃣  Download Harvest Hosts App on the App Store for Apple devices here
*️⃣  Download Harvest Hosts App on Google Play for Android devices here

We will continue to share updates in the coming weeks leading up to the launch of the new Boondockers Welcome website. Please be on the lookout for additional communications in the near future!

Boondockers Welcome Logo

Boondockers Welcome is a community of RVers that provide overnight stays with each other for free while traveling through an area. We help RVers to travel more economically and find options when campgrounds may be full. It’s a great and safe way to meet fellow RVers or for people curious about the RV lifestyle to learn from members, while also providing a safe place to park for one night or up to five nights.

    Sounds really good so far!

What happened to sharing subscription credits?
  • Charlie76IN

Sounds good thus far and prudent. The app transfer is good and same for emails. It seems to me that the BW hosts and HH hosts are the heart that pumps the lifeblood of the two symbiote. Those credits that I receive for each stay keep me motivated to excel as a BW Host.

I think it will be a good move. I like that I will be able to get rid of an app on my phone. lol. All in one place works for me. Can't wait to see the changes.

We're so happy that everyone is embracing this change! We look forward to continuing to improve the experience for everyone.

I much prefer the BW website to the HH site, so hopefully the new site will look more like BW than HH.
  • Pat Anderson

    Pat Anderson

I have ZERO interest in Harvest Hosts, and I really do NOT "embrace this change." We have had wonderful relationships with several BW hosts, so for that reason only, I will see how this works. But it is NOT for the better for BW members at all, and your saying so does NOT make it so.
  • PhilandTheresaL

I’m with Pat Anderson. We’ve been founding members since 2012 and I will take a “wait and see” approach. I’m not against change. I do think it’s odd that since the two are merging, you still have to pay two membership fees. It should be one. Isn’t that part of the reason for a merge? Both sites attract a different user and host base with different goals. The benefits (other than Harvest bought a huge database of users to expand its profit base) to us, the users, is still completely unknown.

I am a member of both and love each of them for what they provide in searching for overnight stops. The “search a route” feature is a welcomed change to Boondockers Welcome. I use that all the time with Harvest Host. I’m excited for this and I believe others will find it very helpful once they start using it.

I am with many others who are disappointed. We were promised NOTHING would change.
  • slmarchap

As a member of both, I welcome the merge of the two. I was very excited to learn that now BW & HH locations can be found using the route map! The route map made our last cross country trip so much easier to find and reserve overnight stays. Now we can combine stays at HH and BW, especially for our longer trips. This for us is really the best of both worlds.

I'm hoping that the roll out in October doesn't have the difficulties I'm experiencing now that I've downloaded HH as suggested in emails from HH. I like BW site functionality but can't do anything currently in HH. I'll wait until full roll-out but suspecting there will be more changes ($) then promised.

We appreciate everyone's feedback and are looking forward to the new website. We assure everyone that the essence of Boondockers Welcome will not be changed in any way. We have a team dedicated to updating the website and taking some great features from Boondockers Welcome and some great features from Harvest Hosts to create an amazing experience! Please note that although you are able to download the Harvest Hosts app in preparation for the integration in early October, you will not be able to login until then.

BW has been a great experience as a guest and a host! Hope this only makes the experience better? I can see where having both available in our travels can be good. Guess we will know soon. Good luck (HH) with your new project. Hope it works for all of us!!!

Maybe an explanation of how to logon the HH app without having to join up would be good. As a BW host you could be reaching out to make this a smooth transition

    HHShawn on 09/18/2021 4:10 p.m. moderator

Thank you for reaching out! You will not be able to login until the official integration of the websites and apps occur. In the previous communication, we just wanted to make everyone aware that this was coming in early October to allow you to get ready. We will be reaching out to our Hosts again via email this Thursday!

That is the way HH works and for that matter most fee based apps. As the emails you have received have told you, when the merger is complete then you will be able to logon using your BDW credentials. However, since you are not paying for HH you will only see BDW sites.

    I would like to see a lifetime dual membership offered for the first 6 month???? Can that be considered? Age 16 - 35 = $ ??.?? Age 36 - 50 = $ ??.?? Age 56 - 70 = $ ??.?? Age 71 - over = $ ??.??

    HHShawn on 09/20/2021 10:16 a.m. moderator

I will pass this information along to our team! Thank you for your suggestion!

This would make a great Retirement, Parents Anniversary, Grand Parents gift! Maybe a $100.00 / 50.00 Gift Card toward membership? I also think state rally's would be fun? Spirit of the Suwannee would be a great place for a Florida Rally!
  • mattcolie

I want to know more about membership coupons. I have more than a few RVing friends that might deserve a great gift.
  • HHKina

    HHKina on 09/23/2021 12:19 p.m. moderator

Thank you for asking, All Hosts will be receiving a specific email detailing your benefits with an explanation of rewards. Coupons can be given to whomever you like.
  • Cimeronstar

Want to still be able to share subscription credits.

    HHShawn on 09/24/2021 5:18 p.m. moderator

Instead of sharing credits, we have created $15 coupons and year long memberships for you to be able to share with others. We still want our hosts to be able to continue to pay it forward, since this is such a wonderful part of Boondockers Welcome!
  • mrmomb

Why aren't host badges displayed on the host site description? They are only visible if one cliks on the host profile.

    HHShawn on 09/24/2021 8:29 p.m. moderator

Thank you for asking! These are specifically tied to the Host, and not the Host location.

What kind of BW gear will be available?

    HHShawn on 09/25/2021 9:15 p.m. moderator

Depending on what level you are in the Hosting tiers, the gear includes t-shirts, hats, and jackets!
