SmokinSoleResort is closed for the season, and until mid to late May 2018 when the snow is gone. We're usually open a month later in the fall, but this year we're already gone for the winter (as of September 22nd).

When we are open, we have spots available for one camper 22' or less, and two campers up to 35'. The smaller spot is a level rock pad. The larger spots are on the grass and will require more leveling.

Access Road Conditions

Narrow road with sharp turn into property from the blacktop. Hard packed rock. Not perfectly smooth but only a short distance from the blacktop. We pull in a 30+ foot fifth wheel, but you need to be an experienced camper/RV driver to make the turn from the blacktop.

Site Description

SmokinSoleResort is a five acre camp in the woods one mile from Eagle River, Michigan and the shore of Lake Superior, on the beautiful Keweenaw peninsula, at the tip top of the Michigan U.P.

Our camp sites are not at our home. As stated above, they are at our camp. We have a small cabin there, and try to spend as many weekends as possible at the camp during the season. Since we are both employed, we are unable to be there during the work week. The camp is only about a block's distance from the highway and a mile from the nearest small town, but it is still a little isolated, and for this reason we prefer that our guests are there on the weekends (typically Friday and Saturday night), when we are also there. It should also be noted that, although we have had no problem with unwelcome wildlife, the Keweenaw peninsula is in black bear country and there are both bears and wolves in the general area. Other wildlife (deer, coyotes, racoon, opossum, squirels, partridge, woodpeckers, and a host of other birds and wildlife) is abundant!

About SmokinSoleResort

In A Few Words...

Couple in our late fifties/early sixties.

A Little More Detail

We love the outdoors and we love camping, whether at our camp/cabin in the woods on the Keweenaw peninsula, or whether in our camper away from home. We have had smaller campers for several years and have just upgraded to a larger fifth wheel. We enjoy gardening, four wheeling, hiking, coffee in our rocking chairs on the deck, photography, birds particularly our hummers, garage sales, antiques, and spending time with family, especially grandchildren!

Favorite Boondocking Locations

We are new to boondocking in 2016. Although we have hosted some other members, we have not yet had a chance to be boondocking guests.

Boon Dockers experience AND it was most excellent. She, the hostess with the mostest and he the host with the most. An evening sitting outside with great company and great food. We got lots of local tips from restaurants to near by attractions. All leading to fun. A definite "10."

So the hostess should be her own little visitor center. Oh wait, she is! They had lists of hikes, swimming beaches, and a wealth of historical info. Never mind that this spot is soooo pretty and the whole area is breathtaking. I wish I could have stayed a week! Well worth the extra miles to get out on the peninsula and into Lake Superior's heart and sole! I dropped the 5th and went off on day trips. The couple could not have been more friendly, hospitable and generous! I sooo hope they will come stay with me in NY.
ps They welcomed my old black lab too!

They were not around much when we were there, but when we saw them they had good recommendations for sight seeing. We stayed 2 nights, and enjoyed driving around the peninsula.
