We are a family of 5 from Vermont, traveling the country for a year. Case, my husband, is a public high school teacher; he will spend this year pursuing his writing. Myself, Su (some call me Kit), am trained in research science. The kids are Griffin (age 13), Josie (age 11), and Bo (age 9).
The kids go to a Waldorf school, which is pretty much a hippy school. Griffin's favorite things to do are snowboarding, basketball and reading. Josie works on a farm two mornings per week, and this is where she is happiest. She would love to spend everyday, all day, working the farm. Her second favorite past time is reading graphic novels. Our little guy loves anything that his siblings do. He is also our resident artist and comedian.
This year we will be traveling from state to state visiting as many national parks, state parks, historic sites, friends, great towns and some cities, as we possibly can. We are so excited to meet people from all walks of life, and get out of the Vermont "bubble."
My expertise is in biochemistry, cancer biology and genetics. I'm anticipating this will be of no use to me or anyone else while we're on the road! I am an avid gardener and have a huge vegetable garden and can cook delicious meals. Case, in addition to being a wonderful and patient teacher, is also skilled in building structures, cutting down trees, and splitting logs. He's very handy. All the kids have had training in farming, but Josie is particularly skilled in dealing with shy cows; goat care; and milking. Griffin is a cellist, not sure if that qualifies as useful, but it is entertaining. :) All the children can knit, crochet, and sew.
We've never done it!
We are from Shelburne, Vermont. Shelburne is a small town in the northern part of the state. We are on Lake Champlain and only an hour and a half drive from Montreal. Shelburne is a classic picturesque Vermont town. We are home to Shelburne Farms, Shelburne Museum, incredible cheddar cheese, much maple syrup, and small farms.
We are pulling a 2017 Keystone Bullet 272BHS travel trailer with our Suburban. It is 30' long and has one slide. It has not been decorated or altered in any way. We will be adding state stickers to it, as we visit each state, but it will not have any political/philosophical/spiritual/etc. decor or stickers.
