We bought this place to get away from the fast lane. My family grew up in south Florida. Alice and I decided we needed a change. Now I rescue horses. We also have goats, ducks, geese, donkeys, dogs and cats. No pigs. We live the laid back southern life. If you mind visits in the morning from the horses, goats, and donkeys this place is not for you. They are all very friendly.
When my kids were small and I was still in the Army we traveled a lot. I found it hard to find places to stop and camp in the states unless we went to a Park. That is why I put the camp sight on my property. We want people to enjoy our place .It is secure, safe, and open to people that want a place that is comfortable.I have had people here that wanted to be out in the woods and away from electric and hookups so I cleared out places for parking a RV in the woods on the other side of the pond. They are beautiful and peaceful and I know some will love them.
My horse pasture
Miami now here.
We don't have an RV but lots of room for those that do.
We just wanted a safe place to stop overnight. Lovely peaceful evening, thanks!
Big Mike was waiting at the gate when we arrived. Was very helpful and offered to let the kids explore his property and interact with all of his animals. Also, offered to let the kids do some stargazing through his telescopes. We did not take him up on it do to needing to get some rest after our week at Disney.
Would definitely stay again in the future.
Didn't get a chance to meet him. But his place was extremely inviting and very quiet.
Nice land, Lots of space, peacefull, quiet, we spent 3 good nights, would come back anytime!
Fenced in pasture area. Ground is rough due to rain. Water & electric worked fine. Dump stations could be bigger. Leach field only 30 ft. Have to dump slowly if you have large tanks
All these horses, donkeys, goats, chickens and dogs are fortunate to be cared for by these kind BW hosts. So are the ‘humans’ that get to stay on this farm overnight. Don’t miss coming here!
This is a very nice spot for anyone who likes animals and easy to find off the highway.
Unfortunately we arrived after dark in the tail end of a thunderstorm so getting situated was a little scary but worked ok.
Beautiful area and so many things are blooming right now! Reasonably close to Okefenokee Swamp entrances.
We got stuck getting out. The ground is still a little wet. Our host quickly helped us out and had us on our way with no issues. The perils of travelling in spring.
Its clear Mike has done a lot of work getting these sites set up and work on the property ponds and paths is continuing.
We would definitely come back but not with a big rig after a month of rain!!
Thanks, Big Mike for your hospitality. We had a brief stopover on our way south. We were amazed at how clearly we could see the stars and pick out many constellations. In the early morning the roosters were crowing and the donkeys were talking. Wish we could have stayed longer.
Mike could not have been more welcoming. His ranch is wide open and everything at your disposal. He could not make you feel more at home.
Water, electric and septic available and its free. Boondocking and very skoolie friendly.
Mike and Alice were very nice to our entire family while we stayed here- they are very kind and down to earth people. They invited us in for holiday supper and treated us like family. Our kids really enjoyed all the various animals they have on their ranch and they learned some new skills at the same time. We'll definitely return someday. Thanks again Mike and Alice :)
We really enjoyed our stop here.
nice open field very interesting animals as described in the listing. adorable donkeys.
we would stay again. very quiet except for the rooster but we loved it
Horses and donkeys and chickens and goats make for a good afternoon of feedng. They came right up to our coach and I was feeding him right through the door carrots and apples, you don't want to get out in the midst of them though to try to feed him they'll push you around we found out but other than that nice stay. Had water and electricity, Mike and Alice are very friendly and we thank them for their hospitality
Thanks Mike. I lived waking up to the farm sounds. The stars looked clise enough to touch.
Due to unforseen circumstances we could not make it to mikes to stay, but he and his wife were quick to respond to our inquiries and were understanding. We hope to visit the area again and definitely plan on a stay!
We stayed in a pasture that had 9 horses, 7 donkeys and numerous goats. There were chickens and geese as well there. You have free access of the whole property to visit the animals. We were feeding the donkeys and horses from our motor-home.Big open area. We chose hook ups but you can dry camp if you'd like. Met a few fellow dry campers. There were about 7 full-time residents that had their trailers there but only 2 were occupied. Great place. Was quite the experience. Will stop by if ever in the area again.
We enjoyed our night stay at Big Mikes.
Got to meet some very nice guests.
Very easy to park. Just a perfect fit for us.
Had a lovely 1-night stay at Big Mike’s - didn’t meet him but did have a nice chat upon arrival with Alice, his lovely better half. As suggested by others who left comments here, I arrived with bags of carrots & apples which were promptly gobbled up by the sweet, gentle horses. What a lovely way to wake up, surrounded by the horses and hearing the roosters crow! Nice people also boondocking there.
A must stay if you love animals! Horses, goats, donkeys, chickens, are your friends and neighbors. Big Mike has a heart of gold! Very wecolming, told us we could stay as long as we wanted. We only stayed 2 days as we had other obligations, will definatly return.
Big Mike is adding more to his little Boondocking Paradise. Again a Very nice place to stay and explore. Thanks again.
This was our first Boondockers Welcome experience and we weren't quite sure how it was going to go. This location is is pretty remote compared to Tampa where we were coming from this day. Turning on to Mike's dirt road from the paved 2 lane highway we knew we were in for an adventure. The road was more sand than dirt and I could feel our truck and heavy 5th wheel sink in slightly. We didn't have to go far to reach the fenced in field where the campers go. There is a sign with their phone number and I called just to be sure. Alice told us to come on in. The dirt road is narrow and has dropoffs on both sides. The entry is narrow too but we were able to squeeze our entire 62' rig in through the gate with some care. The field is somewhat uneven, but we took our time and it was not an issue. Alice came out and chatted with us a bit and offered us fresh eggs from their chickens. She apologized that Mike wasn't available to come meet us- he was helping another camper with a truck that wouldn't start. We had a quiet relaxing evening and a great night's sleep. There were four other campers there which you wouldn't have know they were so quiet. It rained overnight, and it rained hard! There was some pooling in the field and other than standing in a couple puddles, it did not hinder our pulling out in the morning. The 'dirt' road on the other hand was just like driving on a soft beach in the water! The shoulders were breaking away under our weight and we were fortunate enough not to get stuck on our exit. We even had to put it in 4 wheel drive to make it to the paved highway! Overall we loved the experience at Big Mike's- they are great people and offer a lot. There was even water and 15 amp electric at site if you choose to hook up for a fee and a dump station at the exit. We even had fun with the adventure caused by the rain even though it was a bit hairy right then. We would go again and you should too!
We had an amazing time at Big Mike's. Waking up in the morning to a field of horses, donkeys, and goats is like heaven on Earth. Mike & Alice work so hard to ensure that their animals are happy and healthy and the grounds are just lovely. They are incredibly accommodating as there are no off-limit areas. We can't wait to go back and plan on making this an annual trip at minimum. Be sure to bring lots of carrots and apples 😋
I would highly recommend Big MIke's RV Camp! Unfortunately, we were heading north from Florida and due to our schedule planned for only one night. As soon as we approached the gate, we were greeted by a friendly camp host. As my husband was getting the camper situated,I admired the friendly horses feeding them apples. The next morning we met the owner, Mike who was busy getting the ground ready for planting season. After talking to him we learned he rescues and rehabilitates horses. If you enjoy the simple life and farm animals then this is the place for you! We will definitely go back! Thank you, Mike!
Thank you for opening up your world to us. We all had the most amazing time feeding the animals and meeting everyone. We met other boondockers and had a great time by the fire with s’mores and great chats. We always felt at home and were blown away with mike and Alice’s welcoming nature. For someone who only likes horses and goats, Mike you do alright!!!. Sending our love and hope to come back one day.
We stayed one night at mikes and alice. Alice was so nice and welkomt us with open arms. The animals were amazing and we spent some time with them and gave the horses some carrots. Alice did our laundry and wr had very nice conversation. They really have a nice thing going on with the animals.
This next review is special for mike.
Mike is a boring old man. Everybody says he is nice but actually he is not. He tells boring stories ond old mans jokes. Not a very interesting man. (Here you go mike, youre bad review like you asked, i kept my word).
Thanks to both for hosting us. I would recommendceverybody to visit them and there world of animals.
We arrived in the dark and Mike and Alice were helpful in getting us settled for the night. The next morning we realized that we were right next to the animal pasture. Mike met our kids and said they could go into the pasture and meet the animals who all seemed very friendly. The kids are still talking about them. Chickens, goats, donkeys, horses, dogs, and more.
This is a mixed farm and it’s not immaculate or prestine but these folks are very considerate and generous. Thanks Mike and Alice for the hospitality.
It's always great to meet folks like Mike and Alice, they are laid back and try to help there guest have an enjoyable stay. It is the first RV park I have been to where you can get eggs straight from the farm and if your from the country you will feel at home here. It is not for everyone though, if it rains there is mud to deal with in some areas, and it is not designed to be a resort, after all the park is in there pasture, just a place you can park for free or they do have hookups for a price. They pretty much try to accommodate what ever you want to do within reason, You can even fish in several areas.
We arrived on February 2018 and had planned to stay only for one night. We enjoyed our stay so much that we never wanted to leave. We awakened by the song of a cock crow. Every morning the horses, donkeys, and goats greeted us waiting for their daily apples and carrots. Our dogs enjoyed running and romping around in the ponds on the property. Big Mike and Alice are wonderful and generous hosts. Thank you for sharing your paradise with us.
Annette + Juergen + our 2 Girls
My Wife and I went to big Mikes on Jan 19th. We intended to stay a day or two but enjoyed it so much we stayed for five. This was our first experience using Boondockers Welcome. Mike and Alice made us feel very welcome. We were also greeted and had a good time with the horses, donkeys, goats, dogs and chickens. In the evening we visited with others who were staying there around their large fire pit. We had a great time. Thanks again, Mark & Jeanne
Mike was very welcoming, his property is amazing and there is lots to do there.
This was our second stay at Big Mike's. He and his wife are always so sweet and welcoming! The kids always love the horses and donkeys. Mike let us tour the farm and the kids got to see the baby goats. The town and people there are super friendly! Make sure you stop at the Honey Shack, Murphy's Seafood and Richard's Market.
What a wonderful location, a big ranch that you can roam free as well as the horses, donkeys, chickens and goats at your front door. Great host. Wish we could if explored more but it rained the entire time we were there.
This is my first experience with Boondockers Welcome, and I couldn’t be more pleased and surprised. Mike is a great guy—outgoing and eccentric. He makes you feel at home. He rescues horses, and the place has horses, donkeys, goats, chickens, dogs, and other animals I can’t remember. If you don’t like the country, this place isn’t for you.
There are hookups, pastures, and woods. Also, the town five miles down the road has all you need, including great local restaurants.
But Mike is what makes this place so special. He’s retired military, and I thank him for his service. He’s one of those people you remember. I hope to be back there within the next few weeks to get away from all the hubbub of everyday life.
Stayed a couple nights at Big Mike's place in southern Georgia, and wow, what a great place to escape the frenetic city pace. Loved the southern hospitality in town, and was impressed with what Big Mike has done with his RV camp. Really liked the way he used his old scuba tanks as site markers. Had great power for my 30-amp, and water supply as well. My dog was elated to run free in the large gated lot, and I can tell she didn't want to leave when we pulled out. I didn't want to leave either. Hope I can make another visit again some day. Would highly recommend.
This couple opened up their property to us like we were family. They were so sweet to our three kids by showing them around the ranch and introducing them to their animals. We are honestly disappointed that we have to leave to our next stop. Okefenokee Swamp Park was about a half hour away and was a worthwhile day trip for us.
Hey Big Mike ...meant to recommend you before but I am the worst procrastinator....thank you for letting me stay on your property for 3 days during an awful rain storm in Jan. ...I was very grateful to be there because I wasn't feeling the best either.
thank you so much again,
What nice welcome we received from both Mike and his wife. He was very generous with sharing the property, making us feel at home, and in giving us a tour. We enjoyed feeding the horses and donkeys carrots and apples. It was a great spot. The only downside we experienced were the gnats/bugs during this time of the year. However, when the breeze picked up, it took bugs away. Town is only a few minutes'drive; it offers groceries, dining, gas, etc., pretty much anything you'd need. We recommend staying here.
A great spot in the Georgia wilderness. Was very welcomed by Mike. I ended up staying an extra day to take in all the surroundings and animals. Thanks Ross
Big Mike and wife are truly wonderful people who generously shared their beautiful piece of paradise! Gentle, loving horses, friendly, inquisitive donkeys, sweet baby goats, a menagerie of rescued dogs, plus free-range chickens, geese and guinea hens on property proudly cared for and wonderfully tended. Two of the nicest people we've met and one of the most peaceful, beautiful, natural places we've stayed. Better than a 5 star resort in our opinion.
So glad we found this place and met this couple. Highly recommend to anyone who loves peace, animals, nature and down-home hospitality!
Big Mike's is pastoral literally because you camp in a pasture with horses, donkeys, goats and other farm life grazing around your campsite. Mike provides 30 amp, water and sewer in this setting along with an under-construction canal park for your enjoyment. It's very rustic, quite and restful. There are about 6-8 usable sites and plenty of room to back in to your space. You can also make a nightly fire using the ample wood laying about on the RV Ranch. Mike is a special one-of-a-kind guy with a wonderful giving nature. This is an ideal place for ex military as Mike is a vet Green Beret and seems to care a lot about other vets. The horses and other livestock, dogs, goats, etc I think are all rescued animals so although not requested a small donation seemed appropriate at the end of our one week stay. Homerville is a quaint little Georgia town just north of the Okefenokee Swamp, the largest swamp in the world. Mike can fill you in on other local attractions as well. Mike's wife, Alice is also a special person who lives Mike's passion with him. Alice gave us free range chicken and goose eggs on the day we left and boy were they good. Thanks Alice. We highly recommend that you check out Big Mike's RV Ranch near Homerville if you are in the area in Southern GA cause you can recharge your batteries (personal ones) and also use Mikes as a base for all of So. GA.
The rescued horses, donkeys, goats and other animals provide lots of entertainment. The ranch is a great spot to stop while traveling or to have a rest while on a long trip. The hosts are amiable and welcoming. We stayed four days in mid-February.
Lynda and Robert in Campervan Zephyr.
Our first experience with boondockers was in Georgia at Big Mike's ranch. We can't fully express what a wonderful time we had. They are such kind, friendly, welcoming folks with a lot of knowledge and great stories. We very much enjoyed our time with them on their land.
Horses, donkeys, goats, and dogs are among the friendly and curious animals that Mike and Alice care for. We loved having the horses and donkeys visit us during the day.
The land is beautiful. The RV sites are spacious and flat with great water and electric hookup and amazing panoramic views. We spent much of our time sitting outside, enjoying the peaceful setting. The night stargazing is breathtaking. Our kids explored the land, fished in the pond, borrowed movies from Mike's dvd library, bottle fed baby goats, patted and fed the horses, goats and donkeys and all around had a wonderful time. None of us wanted to leave -which made what was going to be a short stay into 5 days!
She went out of her way and drove me into town for grocery shopping. They also had us over for a dinner party where we enjoyed lovely company and conversation.
Thank you so much for everything!! You've touched all of our hearts!
We highly recommend them and hope to make our way back in the future.
This place is a paradise, absolutely wonderful.Worth going out of your way to stay a while. Please don't forget to close the gate when coming or going. Rounding up horses and donkeys is a pain. Big Mike and company are perfect hosts. We were more than happy to donate for helping them feed all of the rescue animals. Once again PARADISE. A BIG THANK YOU....
Big Mike's ranch is a piece of heaven on earth. Big Mike and his wife are super-friendly. Really lovely and interesting people. We got a tour of the ranch, and the horses, donkeys, and goats were allowed to visit us for carrot snacks. SO QUIET, beautiful sunsets and sunrises. Water hookup and 30-amp electric plus a dump station. Hope to go back again someday soon. Thank you, Big Mike!!
Came in just a couple of days before Thanksgiving we were immediately invited to join them for Thanksgiving dinner which was delicious. If you like horses and other animals it is for you, with hookup available.
Mike and Alice were wonderful hosts! We arrived after dark and Mike was so helpful as our 2017 RV plug wouldn't fit in his receptacle and he went out of his way to help us to get it to fit. The horses and donkeys were great and came right up to our trailer each day. Alice offered for the kids to bottle feed the baby goats and the kids loved the experience. We enjoyed the local meal recommendations and it was the best southern food we've ever had! We will definitely be back and recommend Big Mikes to everyone!
We stumbled into Big Mikes before we launched into Florida and were greeted by a small herd of Donkeys, Horses and Goats... And of course Mike! We were absolutely blessed to spend the night. He and Alice are absolute GEMS! What a heart for service, hospitality and grace! We are definitely keeping this one on our radar...We'll be back! Thanx Mike!
Enjoyed several nights stay. Relax and no pressure, elect, water, dump available. Just take care to close the gate if going out to town. Easy spot to find, quiet but with automatic morning alarm, ie rooster crows in the AM but not real close by. We enjoyed it having had animals when our kids were young.
