I enjoy meeting new people and enjoy being a part of a network of hosts and travelers on this site. I have hosted a few of folks and would enjoy hosting more. I have been able to take some time this summer 2018 and boondock in Maine. It has been fun!
For some reason I have missed a couple of emails from people wishing to boondock...don't give up ...try again if you don't hear from me. Perhaps the emails are getting waylaid in the junk mail?
I Love to garden and welcome you to partake of the fresh veggies I grown when in season. But this year I have not put a lot of time and effort into it...so there is mainely an abundance of chard and zucchini!
I do not travel with pets but have cats, goats, lambs, ducks, chickens and a visiting dog named daisy occasionally
I love to be close enough to water so I can hear it! Rural areas are my favorite
It is 30 min from Portland, the ocean, the mountains and ski areas. A short driveway and close to the river
I have converted a 2005 Ford E1 50 van into a self-contained travel vehicle.I had it painted a deep forest green and they put in two fantastic fans. I have an outside plug in for electric, a solar generator, tiny woodstove and a self-contained toilet. I have a little sink, cookstove and table. It is simple and comfortable, easy to drive and doesn't take up very much space.
Even in Covid Times our host was gracious and accommodating in our needs. Wish we could have spent more time talking with our host as she has a diversity of knowledge and interests. Quiet, rural location by the Saco River
Our host was so kind and accommodating even though our paths never crossed. Loved the baby goats and they live on a fabulous river. Our dog loved the swimming hole!
Our host went out of her way to help us out in our travels. She is a kind considerate soul and we appreciate her very much!
We were so lucky to land at this beautiful spot. Our hostess allowed us to borrow some fishing poles and enjoy the incredible river with a fire. Thank you so much!
Great spot to stop over and recharge next to the river. Literal recharge (15 amp hookup) available for shorter rigs or longer power cords. The sights and sounds of the river are perfect. Super friendly host and excellent communications. Fresh kiwis (right from the tree) were a pleasant bonus. thanks, so much!
Our great host was so accommodating and friendly. The river is a kayaker's dream.
We had a relaxing time among the farm animals.
We had a wonderful visit with Saco and friends. They waited for us to get settled in and then led us to their private
swimming hole in the back yard, very refreshing on a blasted hot day. 2 fresh eggs right from the farm really made breakfast a special treat. Unfortunately time didn't allow for more conversations other than at the swimming hole but we has a great time anyway. We certainly hope to see Saco again in the future.
I very much enjoyed staying at the Saco River Respite &
the hostess was very nice & helpful.
From this location I drove to Portland & visited the beautiful light house &
the grounds of the former 1800's Fort Williams.
This was very interesting & I took many beautiful pictures.
After Portland, I drove SE on the secondary roads to Kennebunkport.
I did not see the Bush's Compound but I did visit the beautiful bay.
At 5pm, I went to NUNAN's Lobster Hut & enjoyed a whole boiled
Lobster dinner. It was very delicious & NUNAN's is an older &
very popular place w picnic table seating inside.
It is much larger (deep) than it looks, but if you are not there by 5PM,
you will be waiting outside for a long wait list.
My very 1st Maine fresh whole lobster & worth every penny!
Warning: CASH ONLY! No C.C. or ATM.
Thank you, Brenda, I would return!
This location was easy to get to and offered 15 amp electric service. She is located on the Saco river and you can sit in her yard and enjoy the beautiful view and the sound of the water cascading over the rocks.
Will request again when in the area and recommend you do the same.
Saco Rive is just as it says and the host was gracious and welcoming
I had a great stay and also was welcomed to sit and enjoy the incredible view. A generous welcome was very much appreciated!
Such a beautiful little homestead on the river, and our host was wonderful!
Saco River Respite is a nice spot. Very welcoming. A lot going on at this homestead on the river. Loved the conversation and the goats. Close to Portland.
They were open to us coming right after my nieces wedding/ reception. The hostes was very caring and welcoming. I would go there again in my travels. And if I had a way to host I would in a heartbeat. Thank you all so very much. Best nights sleep in a long time.
I loved my stay. Altho the description is very understated, the place is so much fun with an old school hippyish feel. Easy to find among winding rural roads, it feels like a country homestead, backing up to a lovely river surrounded by trees. I parked in a level spot in front of the barn that sits right beside the house. It has been converted to a studio space where there are all kinds of art projects are happening. There are goats and ducks in pens right near the house and a trail down to the river. I was welcomed, offered food, and spent the evening talking and laughing over a hot cup of tea. It felt like I was visiting long lost friends. I give Saco River a maximum thumbs up.
Thank you Brenda for your hospitality.
You are a unique individual and have great location.
We enjoyed our tour of Maine.
One of the nicest places to stay. Thank you, B., for your wonderful berry-and-rhubarb-cake! The pitch is quiet and the area is really impressive. No doubt, if we will ever be within 100 miles and looking for a host, we know whom to call!
I wanted to thank this host for being such a kind caring soul. Even though the normal spot was occupied, we were offered an alternative spot to stay. It is this type of experience that makes Boondockers Welcome seem like you are part of a family of kindred spirits. Thank you!
