We are full-time travelers currently headed toward Asheville and northward from there. Our hosts were most gracious and generous. They have a wonderful property that's just off the road and situated adjacent to a pond and vineyard. Our spot for the night was secluded and quiet and cool amongst the trees. We'll definitely call on them again when we're back in the area.
This was my first Boondocker stay and it was fantastic. My pup and I camped at the base of the dam in my Roadtrek van... we were in the shade during an unusually hot time and the shade and the spillway from the lake made things comfortable. The sound of the water lulled me to sleep both nights and made for some relaxing camp chair surfing! The host was great and checked in with us a few times to make sure we had everything needed. Great guy. I hope to come back. I wonder if all boondocker locations are this good? (I hope so!)
We were offered to stay in back of the grapevines by the stream or out by the pond. We chose the stream and loved it!! The sound of the water at night was wonderful. Fireflies at night we’re plentiful!
We helped our host on a vineyard that he is working on with some business partners. It was great to see, and be apart of, a business plan coming together!
Definitely recommend this quiet, peaceful Boondocker’s Welcome location.
Mountain Shadow is without argument a slice of paradise. Garden of Eden if you will. Like Adam and Eve we felt like we had this entire estate to ourselves. It was delightful being able to camp right on the water. A chorus of bullfrogs, crickets, cicadas and Whippoorwills serenaded us to sleep both nights. Our hosts went out of their way to make sure we were all tucked in. So very thankful for these hosts and their generosity in allowing us to stay here.
Words can hardly describe the beauty of Mountain Shadow. This was our first boondocking experience and I am afraid that we have been spoiled!! You couldn't have asked for any nicer hosts or accomodations! Thank you, Thank you! It was GREAT and we hope to visit there again.
Let's just say Greg has sent the gold standard for Boondocking. It was that good.
What a wonderful experience. The property is incredible and only minutes from amazing hikes (and waterfalls!). There was ample room for large rigs and we stayed about 20 yards away from a wonderful little creek that the dog loved swimming in.
The hosts themselves were amazing. Incredibly fun and very gracious; some of the best folks we've met in the last year that we've been on the road. A+ all around
The hosts have a beautiful property they shared with us. It was a stunning place to camp. Behind us was the Mountain View. In front of us was a beautiful pond. Truly a wonderful place to stay. The hosts were welcoming and when we arrived greeted us on their side by side. Gave us a tour of the property and helped us settle in.
We stayed two nights at mountain shadows and it was amazing! Even heard coyotes serenading us one night. There are many beautiful areas to hike around here and South Carolina is overflowing with waterfalls. Very nice area and this is the place to stay. The state parks are crowded so why not just visit for the day and return to your little slice of paradise in the evening? Such great hosts with practical tips. Many thanks!! (Eat breakfast at Pumpkintown!)
The location worked great for visiting Table Rock. Very peaceful setting. Great Host!!!
We had a great night stay and awoke to a beautiful scene. This is a postcard spot nestled in the quite SC country side. Our hosts gave us some great tips on eats and the area. Could have stayed for days but we’re heading west. Thank you again!
Mountain Shadow is truly a lovely spot. The hosts are most gracious. They met us upon our arrival and helped with putting us up at a level spot. The view is stunning across the dam. Sunrise colors were spectacular. The host met us in the morning before our departure to make sure we had a comfortable stay. A location we would love to definitely visit again and stay longer. Thanks for everything.
What a wonderful setting. Wonderful cacophony of bullfrogs, cicadas and crickets to put me to sleep. I received a pretty bouquet of 🌹 and carnations to make my campsite more glamorous if that can be even possible. Mountain Shadow sent me off to find Twin Falls... More spectacular than I could have imagined. There's so much to explore in this area... Which had been my plan, but I am headed home with my sick pup. I know I will return.
Greg and his wife could not have been better hosts. Upon arrival Greg met us and showed us the best location to park our Airstream right next to the pond. He stayed and helped me get the trailer level and even loaned me a few of his leveling blocks! We stayed two nights, so during our full day we took a drive up to Jumping Off Rock. This areas is incredibly beautiful with all the mountains and groges, we were able to take some incredible photos! Everyone we met here couldn't have been nicer, the neighbors even gifted us some farm fresh eggs and produce! We can't thank our hosts enough for a great experience.
We stayed at Sunset for 2 nights and cannot wait to return. The site has several areas for camping small and larger rigs and we chose the area next to the water.
Greg and Jean were amazing hosts from the first contact, they replied quickly and met us to show us the areas for camping.
Their hospitality, and that of their neighbors was above and beyond anything we had expected.
The area has several beautiful spots for viewing the mountains or hiking, and immaculately kept parks.
There is enough to experience in the surrounding areas to keep you there a week or more.
A truly tranquil hidden gem! Thank you again guys!
Mountain Shadow was a "beautiful" place to stay and unwind after quite a trek. The host was friendly, generous and helpful. This was a little out of our way but well worth it. We would highly recommend taking the time to experience Mountain Shadow. The host photo could have been taken from the amazing place we parked.
Sitting here in our motorhome watching a mother duck give instructions to her 5 ducklings on the pond. The spring peepers are chattering loudly. Such an awesome stop.
Thank you for your guidance in getting us here and helping us find the perfect location to settle.
