I am a retired real estate investor who began rock climbing, canyoneering, backpacking and exploring the mountains and canyons of Big Bend National Park and the Grand Teton National Park in 2000. I turned 65 this spring and purchased a 34' class A gas motor coach outfitted for solar and a Jeep Patriot to become a base camp for my back country explorations of the western US and Canada.
I have been living my values with respect to the environment and have been connected to shore power only twice in the last 93 days and run my generator for a few days when temperatures reached 100 degrees in Capital Reef National Park. I would want to return a kindness of letting me park my coach with what skills I possess. I have been, at different points in my life, controller of several oil companies, a software developer with installed software in over 40 hospitals, and a residential real estate investor.
My two daughters and their families live in Austin and my wife remarried many years ago. With everyone settled, I decided to build a "bucket list" and fulfill it. This year I have explored Chiricuahua National Monument, scrambled the rocks at Joshua Tree NP, skied the flanks of Mt Shasta, climbed to the top of Multnomah Falls in the Columbia River Gorge, walked the beaches in Oregon, climbed Angel's Landing and waded the Narrows in Zion NP, explored slot canyons in Utah, explored the back country in Capitol Reef NP, and backpacked in the Wind River Range and Grand Tetons in Wyoming.
Although I have been quite happy with BLM and Forest Service campgrounds, I am frustrated by how difficult and limiting it is, with all of the public land space in the western US, to find access to a small bit of flat space on which to park a 34' motor coach and Jeep.
