We both retired in 2014, and live in northern California when we're not on the road. Doug spent most of his working life as an elementary school teacher, and Sheryl was an HR Manager in the wine industry. We are enjoying our new-found freedom. Our plan is to spend about 7-8 months of the year at home and the rest of the time traveling the country.
We are also both bicyclists and ride recumbent bikes. We enjoy self-supported bicycle touring and try to incorporate that with our RV travels. We transport our bikes on a carrier on the back of the fifth-wheel trailer. Often we will just do day rides wherever we are, but other times we find a place that will store the trailer for 2-3 weeks and take off on our bikes from there. It's a great way to see and experiences places in a different way than we can from our truck.
Sheryl enjoys quilting and playing the piano, both of which she does at home and on the road. She also enjoys supervising our home improvement projects and spending time with our two small grandkids.
Doug enjoys monitoring investment portfolios, doing home improvement projects, and keeping up with our local Eagle Cycling Club activities.
Nothing specific to RV'ing as we are still learning. Doug can do minor bicycle repairs.
Since getting our Hitchhiker in 2013 (it's pre-owned), we haven't boondocked anywhere other than at casinos or an occasional truck stop. We are eager to find some prettier locations!
We love traveling to and in the vicinities of the National Parks in the west, and we're equally excited about visiting new places all around the country.
We live in Napa, California, which is best known for being in the wine country. The Napa Valley is about 30 miles long with high hills on both sides and a somewhat rural atmosphere because of the vineyards. We have a small house in a modest subdivision with a drought-tolerant yard. The Mediterranean climate of the Napa Valley agrees with us, and we can ride bikes pretty much year round.
Our tow vehicle is a 2013 GMC Sierra Denali long-bed dually pickup truck. Our RV is a 35-foot fifth wheel, 2004 NuWay Hitchhiker Discover America. We have three slide-outs. No funky decorations, but the decals on one side of the RV are slightly faded.
