At age 48 my wife, daughter and I ran away from home(-: We traveled most of north america for the next 6 years. We've settled on a 52 acre parcel just outside of a small town called Kingman Arizona. We built our own house. I was a newspaper distributor a major San Francisco paper for 32 years and owned several other business during this time. I have three great kids that are grown and live in the western U.S.. My mother called me a tinker, I can build or repair anything. I've built cars, motohomes, trailers, motorcylcles, houses, steel gargages and many more. Melonie is my work partner as well as my wife and mate. I was a Martial Arts instructor for 25 years and welcome any that want to walk or workout with me!
I am a tinker, I can repair or build most anything.
Sam, our old dog, now 14 years old, very well mannered, non aggressive and gets along with other dogs.
Quartzite Az. BLM land and most anywhere that is not in a city. I no longer go to the state and fed parks due to the cost. I have found that many motels are now charging less than RV parks.
The Mohave Desert, north of Kingman Arizona.
1998 Itasca 26 foot class A motorhome. No slide outs. We usually tow a 2007 Elantra. Our moho is white with black paint kind of looks like a swat mobile command.
I had such a great visit the first night I stayed, that I came back for a few more nights. This couple are so interesting and hospitable. I will make it a point to stop and see them whenever I get close. Loving getting to know the people in the towns I am going thru, and getting to share life with them. ❤️❤️
We enjoyed meeting this very pleasant couple. They stayed with us two nights and were up and away early. They were very quiet and congenial; we hardly knew they were in our driveway! You two and your sweet pooch are welcome anytime!
It was such a pleasure to have Roy and Mel and the sweetest desert pup stay with us. They are extremely knowledgeable about the area, RVing, lots of life experience to learn from.
Kingshigh is a gem! At first glance, it looked a little tight for our rig. But Roy met us at the gate and explained the flow of the drive way. He led us in easily and we were parked, set up, hooked up and cooking dinner before we knew it. We look forward to returning with more time to explore the area and walk the trails with Sam the friendly dog.
Roy and Lynn have created an amazing place for themselves and their visitors. We had tea and chatted with Roy about their travels and about the transformation of their piece of paradise. Roy was a gracious host, taking us for a walk along the 'miki' trail and telling us about the area and how they're developing their home and lifestyle with an ultra low footprint in mind. We got to see wild horses during our stay! We look forward to visitting them again.
We had wanted to stay with these hosts since the spring of 2017 when Roy and I (Hans) exchanged several messages on BW about batteries and maintenance. WHAT A SCORE!! Their property is outstanding if you like being away from the city, the lights and the noise. This is an exceptionally quite and peaceful place. They have full hookups right next to their house. Unfortunately we were not able to meet Melanie because she was away caring for her mother. Roy is an amazing person, extremely friendly and accommodating, and a fountain of RV experience and information. We have no doubt that Melanie would have added to our outstanding experience. We feel so fortunate to have met Roy and shared their wonderful property. If you get a chance or an inkling to visit Kingman, Arizona, you should take the opportunity to stay with them if the stars align. These are the kind of people you want to meet in your life!
We stayed with Lonfu for 2 nights, unfortunately his wife was away so we did not get to spend time with her but we had a great stay. My only wish is that I could take his knowledge of building, mechanics and his ability to fix things with us. We chatted around the fire one night exchanging stories and have a great time. The desert environment was new for us and our host taught us enough that we know what to stay away from, luckily its winter and most of the scary critters are not in sight. We will return one day and hope they both have time to come and visit us in Florida one day.
This precious couple is exceptionally creative and hard-working! They took great care to make us feel welcome. Their open and engaging nature was a true refreshment during our stay. We tried to dog-nap Sam, but he wouldn't take the bait-haha. Blessings to our hosts, and happy trails!
Our stay was brief, but we were happy to meet these fine folks! Be sure and walk the trails! You'll be glad you did!
Totally enjoyed meeting this unique couple. They are very hospitable and shared lots of information about the area and their yard art is an enjoyable pastime. Looking forward to seeing them on my way back thru.
We loved staying at Lonfu's spot. It was perfect for a little downtime after Vegas. You can really enjoy the desert and have great conversations with the hosts ! We've learned a lot and hope to see them again. Mary & Al
We spent two nights in a secluded part of the desert - beautiful landscape, beautiful views, and awesome company! Our host was a wealth of information and great conversation! Very welcoming! We definitely will bookmark this host and visit it again!
Lonfu made us welcome from before our arrival. With full service hookup, travel suggestions, lots of interesting insights into the US political and economic scene and a wonderful cactus garden and paths throughout the property, it was a great stay. His suggestion as to our air conditioning problem was spot on. All it took to be relieved of 100 degree heat off the engine was the closure of the clip that secured the cabin utilities console. Thanks so much. Highly recommended.
Besides the beautiful desert setting, besides the friendly pooch, besides the carefully tended trail around the property with the whimsical yard art... there was the very helpful host, lonfu. We are RoverTrek-ing neophytes and this was our very first Boondocking stay. Our host assisted with the first dump of all things yucky and sleuthing out the mystery of why the fridge wasn't working (it was, we just didn't realize that the indicator light was on the blink). Lonfu is a wealth of helpful, useful information and we truly appreciated his willingness to share.
I was lucky enough to stay a couple nights with this host as my first Boondockers Welcome visit. Off the beaten path into the desert north of Kingman, I found a meticulously-kept property with breath-taking views: big sky, mountains, and valley vistas. They set the bar high, offering me a welcome above and beyond "boondocking." I took advantage of electric hooks ups and water -- even a shower and a homemade breakfast! Really fun were the short desert trails on this property with whimsical art and sculptures by the owners. As an RVing newbie, I soaked up learning on RV maintenance and care here, as well. Highly recommended for a superlative, beautiful and restful stay.
These hosts were very welcoming and helpful, they have a great site with all the important things. They are friendly and gave us lots of good information about the area. Enjoyed the time we spent here!
What a great host and hostess. Could not have asked for better. Lonfu have a lovely home and property, great walking trails lined with "whimsy" and they're adept at dividing their time between two BDW guests at one, making us both feel special. That just made the conversation and the fun even better. Love you guys and hope you'll come up our way some day so we can return the favor!
I came to Kingman in order to get my RV fixed and lonfu's location was just perfect to spend the night before I'd bring the RV to the shop. The technical problems with my RV turned out to be worse than expected and I ended up being stuck for a couple of nights. Furthermore all the rental cars were sold out for that day. Lonfu generously helped me out by picking me up at the repair shop and offered me their guestroom for the days the shop would need to fix the repair. I ended up spending several days with the "lonfus" and made new friends and got to learn a new definition of hospitality. I do really hope that we'll meet again soon and will be able to spend more time together! The lonfus are some of the most amazing people I ever met, they built an amazing home and have tons of stories, experiences and knowledge to share and learn from.
Stayed by "lonfu" for 4 nights (3 in their house) when we stuck with RV damage in Kingman. What a lovely, helpfull and friendly people! Had food and drinks and lovely talks in their beautiful house and in a wonderfull area. Hope too visit our New friends again at the end of this year. Thanks for all friends. Our RV problems were not so bad because the staying with you. Johan & Loes
Lonfu was a great host and sounds like an experienced boondocker. We really enjoyed our two nights in Kingman and L generously provided us with hookups during our stay and plenty of advice about the area. He has a beautiful property to boot! Hope we can stay again in the future.
We absolutely loved staying at their place. We had all the services we needed plus he helped build a wall in our motorhome, a project that was going to be finished when we were stopped for the winter. We know more about Arizona than we knew before. Great host..... A big Thank you!
We had a simple outstanding stay with lonfu. Awesome host. Really enjoyed visiting with lonfu and the family dog Sam. Great views. Wished we could have stayed another day. Would most certainly stay again.
We stayed overnight here in June, 2016. Mel was very helpful and accommodating when we arrived. The property is adjacent to a nice, well tended desert walking trail and if you walk it their dog may join you and provide some entertainment. Roy could not have been more helpful or informative as we were just beginning our adventure as new RVers. We really appreciated being able to hook up to power and having such a lovely and safe place to rest. Thank you Mel and Roy, and sorry this took so long to post! Cindi and Roger
How kind of our hosts to invite us to stay a few days when they weren't even home! Their neighbour checked to make sure we were okay and chatted awhile. We hiked the great rocky hills beside the beautiful home they have built and were able to ride our bikes up into the canyon. Sure hope they travel to Ontario and visit us so we can finally meet!
The hosts are very friendly, in a very nice environment. We stayed 3 nights. We felt like home, quiet place, nature with a spectacular view. About 10 min. from Kingsman. I recommend this place for people who like the countryside.
Roy and Mel are absolutely wonderful! This is the best stay that we have had on our cross-country adventure. They are such a sweet couple. They gave us such a warm welcome and were so accommodating throughout our entire one week stay, even serving us a delicious dinner. Roy was so helpful with our trailer, he educated us about so much we didn't know as we are new to trailer life. He even helped us fix our trailer and attach our sway control! Mel was very sweet and gave us some great old books to keep us busy on the road. They shared wonderful stories and made us feel right at home. Plus, the spot is so beautiful and private. Their dog Sam is awesome! He got along with our dog right away and he makes such a great watch dog. We fell in love with him right away. The next time we are in the area we will definitely stay with them. It could not have been better!
Even tho it is really out of the way, the ride was/is worth it. Hearing the new little of coyotes yipping in the morning dawn was perfect. He was "batching it" while his spousal unit was away but a most congenial host. Sam, the dog, also friendly and came into the RV to join the conversation and good company. Enjoyable stop.
This was our first stay with someone in the Boondockerswelcome program and it was great! We really enjoyed visiting with Roy and Mel. during our short stay, what a great couple and so knowledgable! Roy knows how to fix almost anything and he knows his motorhomes too, inside and out, sharing some great ideas on maintenace and improvements to our coach. Great to have people like Roy and Mel in the Boondockerswelcome family! Mark & Patsi
We stayed one night at their marvelous property. It was amazing, so quiet, peaceful. They both welcome us with open arm as if we were old friend. They are welcome to stay at our place as long as they want. They are experience traveller and happy to share their experience.
Arriving at 10.30 pm Roy was standing along the road with his flashlight in a complete black darkness for a hardwarming welcome. Coming to the USA for the first time we had no clue what to expect but it was beyond any imagination. Hooked up within 10 min on a beautifull spot, making ones aquaintance, we were invited for the next day for a trip to the "ghosttown" of Chloride and the rock murals mentioned in the account. A once in a lifetime experience with a delicious meal from his daughter as finishing touch. Before we left the next day for Quartzsite, he introduced us to the world of Billy the Kid, and Bonny and Clyde. Roy and Roxanne, thankfull for letting us into your life for this short period and maybe one day we meet again. Annemiek and Dirk Brands - Bussum - The Netherlands.
