Although I am retired I still teach classes and consult on desert gardening and farming, I just limit my classes to allow myself time to travel. I enjoy 'old' western movies, reading and visiting on the back porch with friends.
I also operate an Airbnb guesthouse for those that want to get out of the desert heat or just clean up and do laundry.
When I travel I 'glamp' in a 22-foot Airstream Interstate. My first trip was 18,000 miles around the USA and Canada, which took 5 months and I traveled by myself. In Jan. 2020 I bought a 45-foot Monaco Signature Coach, just before the weather warmed enough to go fishing but then the COVID put us all in quarantine. It has only been driven around the neighborhood frequently enough to keep the tires round and the moving parts moving. All I have used it for is for a dining room for nice dinners , , , it's very nice and a special treat to eat in "The Bus." Like going out to dinner, , , , almost. I will probably use it as an Airbnb when travel gets busy again in Las Vegas.
There are wonderful fruits and vegetables growing here in my garden and I am known to share.
Before I retired I worked as a writer for a national magazine and as a consultant to farmers and manufacturers on desert agriculture. It didn't feel like a job but I got a paycheck. (I would have done it for nothing.) I am still a consultant and public speaker on desert gardening and growing food in deserts. I retired as a real estate broker in California and Nevada in 1990 and at one time I owned a graphic sign company. Very different careers, but because I am "old" there was time to do them. I like to show people my garden and help them solve their own growing problems.
I have a 6-pound Yorkshire Terrier that is my companion. She isn't yappy and seldom woofs more than once . . . one woof to ask for a belly rub or food and is absolutely the sweetest and cutest and best behaved little dog in the whole world. Really, the whole world. I wouldn't make this up. (smile)
I like to boondock anywhere there are friendly people, historical areas, shopping and craft fairs, lakes with trout. But when I travel alone I appreciate a good board game like Scrabble or a card game and good conversation. I very seldom stay in an RV park. Maybe 3 times in 5 years. Because of my little 22-ft Airstream Interstate I can pull up to the curb on a city street to spend the night, or go to a truck stop or . . . . My favorite place is under a tree anywhere. Especially if there is shopping there.
I live in Las Vegas, NV. I was born in Chicago
I drive a 22-ft Airstream Interstate, and I sometimes have my motor scooter on a lift behind it. It is a "Class B" and does not have slide-outs. It is a tan and brown color which I refer to as the color of dirt. Some call this 'taupe.' My motor scooter is "taupe." I think it is a very pretty/classy rig, although small.
Tomato Lady and her friend were very pleasant and fun to talk to. Welcome back anytime. "And your little dog too!"
We had a great experience with The Tomato Lady and her little dog Fancy. She was very welcoming and our kids loved her garden. We were able to have dinner in the garden which was a nice experience. It was very hot and the parking is on a through street that sees a decent amount of cars so it wasn’t the greatest nights sleep but The Tomato Lady’s warmth and welcoming still made it a very enjoyable experience.
While our stay was brief, we thank the Tomato Lady for her warm welcome and hospitality. A nice safe flat place to park for the night and beautiful gardens.
Tomato Lady is a very gracious hostess. She moved her car so that I could park in the shade, and made me feel very welcome.
The Tomato Lady was welcoming and enjoyable. I felt safe and comfortable.
This was the first time I'd used the Boondockers Welcome and it was an excellent experience. The location was convenient for all the things I wanted to do. Finding it and parking was easy. The host is gracious and made me feel at home. We had interesting and informative conversations as well. All in all a great place to stay. Thanks so much.
We were made more than welcome by Tomato Lady. A comfortable quiet night, and a very interesting conversation about organics. All in all couldn't have asked for a better first experience with Boondockers. Can't say thank you enough.
So sorry for the late review; We enjoyed our stay with the Tomato Lady and parked our trailer in the street in front of her house. One of the helpers offered us electrical and water but being self contained we passed on the offer.
The street was quite and safe.
Easy commute to the strip and any shopping you might need.
Tomato Lady was so welcoming and sweet. She helped me so much and I really appreciated her kindness and generosity. She’s a great host!!
The “Tomato Lady” was an excellent and interesting host. I purchased some beautiful veggies from her organic vegetable garden! I would definitely stay again. The spot provided is on the street and there is some traffic, though it didn’t bother me.
Super nice host, perfect for me as i needed to go back to the mechanic shop several times. Parking was easy to find. I am so appreciative of this host as well as Boondockers Welcome. Thank you so much.
Thanks for your warm welcome, Leslie. We enjoyed meeting you and receiving some good tips for our vegetable garden.

As usual, our stay was delicious. We had such a great time with her and her friends. Hope to see you again.
Thanks very much for making us so welcome at your property. It was very interesting touring your garden and picking up a few tips for our own vegetable plot. A very comfortable night, thanks.
Tomato Lady was very helpful and kind. We loved staying in her place. Kisses for her and her friend - R. They are the best!
We very much enjoyed our stay with Tomato Lady. She is a very nice and interesting lady. Her garden is nothing short of amazing we enjoyed seeing it. The parking spot is level and quiet. We hope to visit again and welcome her to our place anytime.
Very easy and enjoyable stay. Interesting garden and pleasant company. Level parking and felt safe. 😊😊😊😊😊
We stay at the Tomato Lady location for two nights.
It was in a nice neighborhood, quiet and safe.
We had a few nice conversation with our host. Our host shared with us a lot of very good tips about downtown Vegas, gardening and philosophy of life.
A very great person to meet.
For these reasons, we appreciate a lot our passage in Vegas.
Oh yeah! also for the almonds we picked on a tree from the door of our camper!
Thank you Tomato Lady!
We spend a wonderful time at this place. Even though tomatoes were not in season yet it was great to see her beautiful garden and to meet her and hear her stories of the Wild West. It was a perfect experience, thank you very much for everything!
Great spot just out of all the chaos. Friendly and inviting host. Would stay again in a heartbeat
We had grad stay with Leslie in Las Vegas and enjoyed the morning view of her beautiful garden. Thank you especially for the tour through your veggie paradise and the insights into your personal experience.
It was amazing to see how gardening can generate such a fascinating variety even in rather dry and difficult conditions.
Great site! Quiet residential neighborhood. Level parking on the side of the street. Beautiful garden! Tomatos in the desert! Plus fruit and nut trees, flowers, etc. Gracious host.
What a nice stay we had at Leslie's place, she's such a kind lady. We had the chance to enjoy two peaceful nights on the surrounding of Las Vegas. Thank you so much and hope to see her at our place in this summer.
Leslie is a lovely host and her garden is a gem of peace, green and quiet in s busy city like Las Vegas
I don't think one could find a more perfect stay in Las Vegas. Away from the hustle and bustle of the strip and downtown vegas, this property is a true gem. Housing a stunning garden business in the back yard, the property is beautifully landscaped and impeccably kept. Our host was very sweet and more than accommodating in many ways. All the necessary amenities for happily provided and the neighborhood was quiet and safe. Thank you so much for a lovely stay!
We had a beyond lovely stay at the tomato garden! Our host was very welcoming and gave us lots of useful advice. The location is close to many attractions in Las Vegas and her dog is the cutest thing in the entire world! We’d definitely recommend staying here and we hope to return sometime! :)
I stayed 2 nights and it was quiet and peaceful. Leslie was very friendly. I would definitely stay again.
We absolutely loved staying with the tomato lady, she made us feel at home immediately! She offered us everything we needed and even invited us to watch a movie together twice, which we gladly accepted. Her gardening practices in the desert are really interesting, there’s always something going on in her house! We felt sad we had to leave. The tomato lady is the best and we highly recommend staying with her :) !!
Not what I imagined. Bsy business! Gracious and pleasant host.
We really enjoyed chatting and hearing about what Leslie was teaching. She’s a marvel !
Thanks for having us,
Host was very welcoming. I enjoyed staying here and having electricity in the heat of the summer was a necessity.
First night I stayed on nearby Air Force base as I had some things to take care of, spent the rest of our time in Las Vegas here. It was just a little bit easier getting home at night rather than having to drive back to base.
We had a great stay here. The host has lived an interesting life and we loved hearing about it. Parking on the street, early morning traffic but not to bad. Electric 110 available if needed, water also. The Strip is about 15 minutes away. Would stay again if in the area. Thanks.
I had a great time. The Tomato Lady is a Wonderful Host. I look forward to a future visit.
Tomato Lady’s property is lovely! Great level parking on the street or driveway. Wonderful conversation as well :) Will be back next time we’re in the area!
Really enjoyed staying with this host for a second experience.
What a fantastic experience. Our host was so welcoming and generous. We went on several tours of the garden, and our host even provided coffee. We learned about desert gardening tips and tricks, and our host spoke with us about her RV travel experiences. We has such a good first night that we decided to stop by again on our way back through town. Highly recommend location.
We had a really good stay in front of the house of Leslie! We had a really warm welcome and we immediately felt safe in this big city! With a Uber and the other day with our own RV, we went to the Strip: About 20 min drive.
For us it was the ideal combination; sleeping in a quiet neighborhood and also have the best experience of this 24/7 city!
We had a great stay with a warm welcome by the host. We admired her beautiful garden and she has such a sweet dog. What a nice place!
We spent a lovely couple of days in this desert oasis. The Sweet Tomato Test Garden is a fascinating place within a short distance of crazy Vegas. Tomato Lady is a great host from whom we learnt a little about the difficulties gardening in a desert.
We have to thank a lot for this great stay at the tomato test garden! Leslie and her little dog Fancy were great hosts. All the best!
She indeed is a Sweet lady :) showed us her beautiful garden and gave us some lovely fresh pistachios on the way. Neighborhood was good and felt safe to stay in!
Leslie was very kind and helpful. She invites us to her lovely yard. We had a great experience,
Good locatie for seeing the town.
Leslie was a fabulous host! We had an incredible time boondocking at her place. We went out with her for lunch and had a great time. She also gave us delicious tomatoes! =)
We are welcomed by Lesly and she has our first thirst.
Thanks Robert and Nelleke
We had a wonderful time with Lesley. We talked, drank, watched a very exciting hockeygame in the casino and we got a wake up call with a good coffee. She even drove us to the strip. Wonderful and interesting host.
It was a very nice expérience to meet Leslie. She is a wonderful host. We spoke about gardening and road trips. She was so nice with our kids by letting them play tennis!
We stayed two nights in front of L‘s house but still felt very safe and welcome. We spent time together in the wonderful garden in the backyard and we are thankful for meeting L who is a great and interesting person. Thus, we can definitely recommend this place since L is also looking for new connections. To go to the Strip we took the bus which took us 45 min to get there (however 1,5h back).
Tomato Lady is very sweet and generous; where else are you treated to morning coffee and offers to go out for dinner? We also enjoyed all the tid-bits of gardening information, and some fresh eggs! There was plenty of room to park our 19 foot R-pod and our towing vehicle.
We stayed a couple of nights in a safe neighbourhood with our host. Our time chatting over coffee in her lovely garden was a great way to spend time with our gracious host. Thanks!
Good friendly conversation, would highly recommend a stay here whenever in Vegas. Hope she can make it out our way we would love to host her........ - Travelers Rest
The Tomato Lady is an awesome host! Fun-loving, personable, smart, and a great fellow boondocker! We loved our stay at her place. Next time we are in Vegas we will definitely call on her again. Thank you so much!
We stayed here for 2 nights and found a great place with a beautiful garden and just a 15-Minute Uber Ride away from the strip. L was a great and welcoming host and made us feel like at home.
We spent a delightful evening with our intriguing host. She very soon made us feel like friends. We look forward to returning her hospitality when she travels our way. Address easy to find and close to "the Strip".
Thank you for our pleasant sojourn.
I stayed two nights parked in her driveway. She offered fresh eggs from her chickens for breakfast. Even allowed me to use her shower and plugged my trailer into her power. Awesome lady with interesting organic fruit and veggie beds in her yard. Nice to have a safe place while traveling along. Highly recommend.
We had such a lovely time with Tomato Lady, really enjoyed her company. She is a very busy person but she took time out to share with us. We leave with fond memories of Vegas. Please keep in touch.
We stayed 2 nights after having a tour of her garden/yard and learning about her gardening experiences. She not only allowed us to stay in her driveway but also allowed us to use her power. From her place it was easy to get down to the strip. Thank for the place to stay Leslie, hope to see you again in the future.
I stayed two nights, parked in front of her house in the very heart of Las Vegas. Getting back and forth to the strip was easy and quick. The Tomato Lady is aptly named as she is an expert on gardening and very willing to share her ideas and expertise. I purchased some tomato seeds from her that are especially for producing tomatoes in the hot desert sun. Once again, the Boondockers have made RV travel for me (a single lady) an enjoyable and safe occurrence.
Leslie is very friendly and incredibly welcoming lady, and not only allowed us to park in her driveway, but also very generously allowed us use of her power during our stay. As we are travelling with 10 m.o. baby Leslie also gave us a ride to downtown and to the Strip. THANK YOU LESLIE :*
Her spot was big enough for our 23 feet with slide rig. Access to her drive was very easy.
We were very pleased to be able to stay with Leslie during our time in the area and would not hesitate to stay there again in the future if the space is available!
Leslie is a wonderful woman and was very caring for us. His hospitality is indeniable. She made the taxi for us to the strip even at night in the crazy traffic of Vegas.
Again ...Merci Beaucoup!!
We stayed with Leslie for 2 nights while we explored Vegas.
She was so accommodating and had many stories to tell - does great mimosas- and we enjoyed chatting on her back porch looking out at her amazing garden! She has the sweetest little Yorkshire terrier who we couldn’t stop cuddling! We were given a big bag of tomatoes before leaving and I can honestly say we devoured them all in the space of a few days.
Very grateful for Leslie’s hospitality!
