We designed and built this home to fulfill my daughters dream of living in the country and becoming more self-sustaining. Beth is the animal person and takes care of our 11 chickens, 1 guinea fowl, 5 dogs, 4 cats, and 1 snake. I am the gardener and grow strawberries, blueberries, raspberries, figs, and cherries. In a few years we'll add pecans and hazelnuts to our bounty. Vegetable wise we grow potatoes, sweet potatoes, onions, garlic, carrots, spinach, rutabagas, green beans, corn, squash, tomatoes, cucumbers, lettuce, asparagus, chamomile, sage, parsley, oregano, and pumpkins.
We periodically have housemates who need assistance who live here instead of in a nursing home or assisted living facility. I used to run a licensed Family Care Home in North Carolina prior to moving here.
Daughter is skilled with power tools and first aid. She is a professional grant writer. Between us we cook a diverse array of food.

Despite no electricity or water this is a very quiet, private, peaceful place to spend the night. Make sure to use Google maps for directions and make sure your shocks are in good shape. The ride up is full of fantastic views, gorgeous homes, and frequent elbow turns. If you love a private experience, this is the perfect place for you.
It is def off the beaten path but once you get there it's a wonderful location in the mountains. Beautiful land and even better people. I had a great time in the area and hopefully can come back sometime in the future. Thanks for the hospitality.
