I grew up as a military brat to an Air force officer and a school teacher. I have lived in three countries and half a dozen states and went to thirteen schools before graduating high school. I have a masters degree in secondary education, language arts and a bachelor's degree in hospitality management. I have worked for the Marriott corporation, Walt Disney World, Morrison's....I have taught middle and high school English, literature, speech, and social studies. I am married to Susan. She is from Boston but her parents moved her to Alabama when she was a sophomore in high school. We have two beautiful children, one a recent graduate of Tulane University in N.O. and one attending Auburn university. I own and operate a casual family restaurant located on Fish River in Fairhope, Alabama. We opened in 2007. We plan on selling our business and renting our home soon. I like the idea of being a boondocker and hosting boondockers is a great way for me to learn. I think I offer a very nice spot for a quick overnight-er or a couple of days to explore. We are not far from Interstate 10 and other major highways.
Pretty good fry cook. Can lift and move heavy things. Great dog poop pickeruper. Excellent smiler. Outstanding beer and wine taster.

We can only say thank you to Alabama Vagabonds for opening up their property for us to stay overnight. During the Covid 19 outbreak, we needed to travel from Florida to Minnesota to go to Mayo Clinic. We looked for places we could park overnight and continue to self quarantine and social distance ourselves. Alabama Vagabonds was not only gracious enough to allow us to stay, but also had full hookups to use if we needed them. And it was a very nice, quiet spot to spend the night hooked up to power. While we didn't have the ability to meet with them this time, we'll definitely be back when we are in the area. Thanks for a great stay!
Wonderful spot to spot and “take a load off”. Host was super accommodating even with the restaurant being closed that day. Very quiet. Nice being on the water. Next time through definitely want to sit on that deck and eat!!
Big Daddy provided me a welcome reprieve from the stressful circumstances of travel during the virus shut down. A very good, take out meal (fried pickles are super delish) and the beautiful location gave me time to clear my head and make alternate plans.
Thank you, friends, for hosting me for a few days 💜 and remaining open to guests at this time.
This is the second time we stayed there and once again it was great. The restaurant there is a bonus. We still haven't got to spend as much time in that area as we would like we keep leaving to quick for one reason or another this time it was due to the Virus. Will probably be back if we are in the area again.
Very nice place. Staff at restaurant was very helpful food was great service was great.
I really enjoyed my stay with Alabama Vagabonds. Big Daddy's Grill was an awesome restaurant with delicious food. I had gumbo and key lime pie. Both were outstanding! I told many friends about this experience. What a cool place and such a kind and welcoming staff. The host had little time to visit as he was running things in the kitchen most of the time Understandably! But I was glad to converse with him when it worked out. It was really great to perform some music for the guests on a Sunday afternoon and I had fun! The place is right on the river and it is peaceful and nice.
I would definitely stay here again if I have the opportunity in the future.
Thanks again so much for your hospitality!
Another stay here. We always have a great time at Big Daddy's.
We will be back.
We loved our stay, hooksups, river and quiet road to walk our dogs. We had dinner and enjoyed dinner and live music. After the restaurant closed this was one of the quietest stays we’ve had, better than a campground.
We had a very nice stay at Big Daddy’s Grill. It was easy to find and to set up. The staff were very friendly and informative. We had the opportunity to bike around the neighbourhood and appreciate the beauty of the area.
Had a great lunch, right on the river. Was able to talk to The Man himself next morning. He gave us spots to look up in NOLA. Much appreciated spot. He rolls out later this year and looks forward to meeting fellow Boondockers.
This is certainly a top favorite for us! The setting is just beautiful in a nice quiet neighborhood. The food was delicious and a good value, and service was very good and full of southern hospitality. Our kids loved getting to play with other kids in their sand box area. The host is so friendly and generous offering hook ups is a huge bonus. We would absolutely love to come back! In fact none of us wanted to leave, but we had to continue on our journey.
Big Daddy's was more then gracious. What a gorgeous spot parked beside the restaurant with full hookups if needed,
over looking the water and very quiet at night. Great food, had my fill of fresh shrimps. Had a chance to meet him for a quick conversation. He gave us a map of special places to visit around Fairhope. Don't forget to go visit the USS battleship in Mobile worth the short drive. Would diffenetly return here no dought about it.
A beautiful relaxing stay right on the Fish River. We are so appreciative for the full hook ups.
Our spot for set up was big, flat and next to a nice big tree.
The Big Daddy’s Griil next door offers some of the best food anywhere. Awesome burgers, fabulous chicken, wonderful potato salad, and to “die for” onion rings!
We enjoyed some nice conversations with Big Daddy!
This spot on our list of “must return!
We really enjoyed meeting Big Daddy, eating in his restaurant and exploring the area. We will drop by again and hope to reciprocate back home.
This is our second time staying at Big Daddy's and we had a wonderful time here! He provides a great spot for his guests and the restaurant and beautiful river are right next door. His location is pretty rural and once the restaurant crowd leaves, it's very quiet. The sights of Fairhope are just a few minutes away. We love coming here and hope to stay again soon!
Great facilities, casual restaurant with pleasant staff, good food, nice bar (that closes at a very early time for a good night’s sleep). Host was very welcoming and interested in comparing notes on RV’s and RV travels. Wish we had more time here!
This was the best boondockers welcome site that we've stayed at. Easy access for any size rig and free full hookups. Doesn't get any better than that! Site has a view of the river. Stopped in at the restaurant for dinner one night. Try the fried pickles! Got a chance to briefly meet the host as we were heading out. Super friendly. Would highly recommend this site if you're in the area!
Nice place to stay with excellent food. Although we only met Jason for a few minutes he gave us a map of the area and was very nice. Close to Mobile and Faithope. We saw 2
Mardi Gras parades. Nice park for walking.
We recommend staying here if you will be in the area.
In spite of having to run his restaurant big daddy was very generous with his time, sharing places to visit in the area. We enjoyed swapping life stories, RV tales had and imagined. The parking spot was great and the food was good too.
We truly enjoyed our stay and the great food!!! Our host was great and the set up was nice and easy!!! Perfect level spot just off the parking lot with easy access!!! We hope to return!!!
What is better than full hookups on the rIver with awesome fresh seafood right out your back door? Nothing can beat the hospitality than what Jason so graciously offers Boondockers. One of the highlights of our trip was just chatting with him about his and his wife’s plans to hit the road soon. Thank you for allowing us to have a super getaway weekend in L.A. (lower Alabama for those who are confused) and we hope to come back this fall and eat some more fried oysters and shrimp. Thank you again!! The Holders
We had several visits with our host about fulltiming. We always take away some tidbit for ourselves from talking to other campers. It was a nice place to stop. He is good people!
Our favorite by far, and we have stayed at a lot of Wonderful Places, no doubt. Excellent food, Friendly people, Beautiful, Quaint town. Loved every minute of our stay. Would definitely stay again if in the area.
This is Boondockers Welcome at it's best. A wonderful find off the beaten track. We arrived around lunch, so had to wait to park, so enjoyed lunch at the Grill. Excellent crabcakes, fried oysters, and chicken. I particularly enjoyed the local beer on tap "Cheating Heart IPA". Servers are super friendly. Then got parked at the excellent facilities with power & water. Explored nearby quaint town of Fairport. Quiet location for the nite. The morning sunrise over the river was spectacular. Got some great photos of morning haze over the water.
This host has a generous heart allowing us to stay with water and hydro. He is a kind man running a restaurant where you can eat delicious food. I ate the fish. The place his wonderful between a restaurant and a marina. Don’t hesitate to go everybody are friendly
We had a great stay at big daddy’s grill. Unfortunately, we did not get to meet up with the host, but he really knows how to set up a site! We had hookups and were tucked in a nice level spot. We even were able to indulge in some French fries while we were there👍
Thanks so much for the hospitality. We will let you know which shelter we donate to💜
Great host, talked about traveling. The food was wonderful and very reasonably priced. Thanks again for the hospitality. Highly recommended stay.
How in the world would you ever find such a unique little pub style restaurant beside a little marina, and on the river unless your host was a Boondocker's welcome host. The answer is you wouldn't. What a treasure trove, and such wonderful people. We are frugal travelers, but when an opportunity like this unique experience comes around, we loosen up the purse strings a bit, because finding the gem's is what traveling is all about.
We enjoyed a beer and some shrimp and oysters while sitting on a coach around a huge fire place and visiting with some locals.
Alabama Vagabonds are itching to get on the road themselves and are sponges, and we wish them much happiness as they begin their travels hopefully in the near future.
Thanks again for seeing the value of being a Boondocker's host and allowing people like us to experience beautiful places off the beaten path that otherwise we would have no chance to visit.
We stayed a few days at Big Daddy's , was a very nice spot level with full hook ups . Would definitely stay again. Hoping to host them at our site in northern Minnesota
We never got to meet the host, as we showed up late in the evening on a day where the restaurant was closed. We were very disappointed we didn't get to eat at the restaurant, but we really enjoyed our overnight stay. Everything was as described and communication was good via email. Definitely recommend this location!
Our host was so charming and friendly. We truly enjoyed our morning chats over coffee with him.
His staff welcomed us and after getting settled we enjoyed a fantastic fish supper at Big Daddy’s Grill.
Our host recommended local shops and we spent our second day visiting his town followed by wonderful food at the Grill. Best deep fried pickles ever.
Highly recommend this boondocker!!
Big Daddys Grille was a great stay over.
We had full hook ups and a great restaurant right on site.
Host was very friendly and helpful with good info on the local scene. Big Daddys Grille had great food. Host actually let us stay on an extra night as there was a dangerous storm heading our way so we stayed an extra day and just buckled down through the storm. Would definitly recommend this host and place.
This was a perfect location - nice big lot, easy to park, full hookups - plus delicious food at Big Daddy's Grill and a nice little sand pile with toys the kids loved playing with.
We took the easy drive down to Gulf Shores and loved exploring the coast during our stay.
There is also laundry and stores nearby (within 20 mins or so).
Host was great and fun to talk with about his travel plans!
Thanks so much!!
Great place to stay! The food was very good and pricing was very reasonable. Enjoyed conversations with the owner. Big Daddy is a great guy. Thank you for your hospitality.
Thank you for a safe and convenient overnight stay. The amenities were greatly appreciated!
Sorry we didn’t get to meet you but your restaurant is fantastic. I highly recommend anyone Boondocking here to eat at Big Daddy’s.
We stayed 5 nights at Big Daddy's. We had full hookups and ate amazing food at the grill. Our view was the river and marina. We visited Gulf Shores and Pencacola Beach on Christmas. Host was so welcoming and helpful. Thank you Jason and everyone at Big Daddy's.
So thankful for wonderful places like this to stay! Beautiful river area and delicious restaurant to enjoy. Added bonus was seeing the boat parade for Christmas.
We had a wonderful 4 night stay at BigDaddy’s. Our host was fantastic and very generous and we had some great conversation. This a also a great spot on the river. I highly recommend spending some time here.
We arrived on a Wednesday when the restaurant was closed, but thanks to the details on the hosts' Boondocker page, we knew just where to park. The parking lot allowed plenty of room for us to maneuver our 35-ft. 5th wheel, and we were grateful for the water and power hook-ups provided. We met host Jason the next morning; what a great guy, so friendly and down-to-earth! We enjoyed a quick visit and were surprised to learn we had friends in common...small world! The food at Big Daddy's was really good, especially the sweet corn hush puppies. The host location is less than 15 minutes to downtown Fairhope (very charming, with dozens of independent shops, restaurants and bars). It's also less than 45 minutes to the beautiful beaches of Gulf Shores. If your schedule permits, be sure to stay several nights so you have time for the full experience!
Great location, easy in/out, full facilities, welcoming host, close to town...what more could anyone want? And, if you have a small boat/kayak/canoe, a place to launch and placid, scenic river. Would go out of my way to visit again.
Nice, quiet place to boondock. Be sure to eat in his restaurant. The grouper is particularly good.
Many thanks to Jason!
Great host. Great location. Great food. Arrived Sunday morning for a three night stay. Had dinner Sunday night at Big Daddy's Grill - the food is excellent. We had shrimp and oyster, both were cooked to perfection - the perfect coating and cooking. Had coffee with Jason in the morning and enjoyed conversation regarding RVing as well as cooking and football. The parking spot is a grassy area with full hookups. If you stay in a Motorhome, pull in instead of backing in. That way you have a view of the water! We would definitely stay again.
The restaurant was pretty crowded as we arrived on Black Friday, but the employees were welcoming and directed us to our spot. It is in a grassy, shaded area and has full hookups. We had dinner here last night and the food was very good and the price was great.
We had coffee with Jason in the morning and talked about our travels as he and his wife are planning to start the RV life. We would definitely come back!
YOU COULD NOT ASK FOR A BETTER STAY JASON IS A SUPER HOST I REALLY ENJOYED MY STAY HIS RESTAURANT FOOD IS DELICIOUS AND REASONBLY PRICED HIGHLY RECOMMEND THIS STAY IF IN THE AREA THANK YOU JASON DAVID F 11/18/19
There were so many wonderful things about this location. The food at this neat restaurant was so good! (the philly cheese-steak was amazing, and so was the spinach dip!!) The staff was super nice and helpful. They showed us a fantastic spot where we were able to stay with full hookups!! (30amp) We settled in with no issues and were thrilled to have found this place.
One of the houses next to the restaurant was playing loud music but we didn't think much of it...it was still pretty early in the evening, there were no lights on and no people outside of the house partying or anything, so we just figured they liked really loud music and we settled in to watch a movie.
Unfortunately, as we went to bed around 11:30 the music was still loudly playing. I tried to turn on my phone's white noise maker, but the thumping beats were still too loud. I looked out and there was no one to be found. The house we thought was playing the music had all lights off and nobody was outside or in cars or anything. It was almost as if the neighbors weren't home but just had their stereo playing really loudly....I kept thinking, if I can hear it in my RV, with all our windows closed, from next door and if it was playing inside their house....it REALLY had to be loud inside their house!!
Finally by 12:45am, the loud music was still playing, and at that point, I was pretty sure I wasn't going to sleep, and that it wasn't going to stop anytime soon...so we packed up and went to a local Walmart for a quieter night.
I am leaving a positive review of this stay because the reason we left had NOTHING to do with the restaurant , or Alabama Vagabonds itself. This issue was the fault of a neighbor and not the host.
It was such a shame, too, because everything about this restaurant was great, and had that neighbor not been playing such loud music all night, this would have been the ideal place to stay!! From other reviews, it looks like this may not be a regular occurrence either, because I haven't seen any other reviewers complain of neighbors' loud music. We would have loved to have spent some time on the grounds in the morning, but it just didn't work out that way, since we didn't stay.
I think we would definitely like to try again sometime, if we are back in the area, and maybe this next time, bring ear plugs or a nice loud fan or something to try and drown out any loud music, if it wasn't just a one-time thing.
It’s our second year to stay at Big Daddy’s. It’s a picturesque spot on the water. Don’t miss eating at the restaurant... it’s really delicious!! We’ll defiantly be back. Thanks for the hospitality Jason!!
Another great 5 days at Big Daddy's. This is our 3rd time here. Will be back. Jason is a great guy and has the best hamburgers at his restaurant. All the food is good too.
As first time Boondockers, we were a little apprehensive. Our host made us feel as though we were family coming for a weekend visit.. What a wonderful experience. Directions were easy to follow and the site was easy to access. Oh, and the food at the grill was great. :)
If you would like to experience southern hospitality and food then this is the place to stop. My only regret is that we only stayed one night. My wife and I will be coming back through that area in a couple of months and plan on stopping there again and spending a few more days. Highly recommend stopping if traveling along the Gulf coast.
Had a great meal and very nice visit with Jason, aka,”Big Daddy”.. Although we didn’t use them, the complimentary full hook-ups are an added bonus. There is a small grassy area of the parking lot he uses for his RV guests, and we had no trouble getting in and out with our 40ft Motorhome. We had an overall great time in this nice, casual atmosphere. Thanks, Jason!
spacious parking lot with hookups. Very friendly host and delicious seafood in restaurant if you decide to eat there. Thumbs up
What a great stay at our first Boondockers Welcome host! They have a great set up avail- easy in and out, super friendly and the view! And they have hookups if you need them! Our 40’ was easily accommodated and when we left we had plenty of room to hook up the toad and roll out. This place will stay on our list as we travel the panhandle out of Florida and westward and wishing them many happy adventures as they hit the road and join us in seeing this beautiful country of ours! Top notch!
Nice people, good food, great spot! Would love to come here again.
We enjoyed a peaceful evening dinner while watching the fish jump, then retreated to our camper with the hookups that they provided. Awesome place! We'll be back.
We had a peaceful two nights with the "vagabonds". Our host was very helpful and provided access to 30 amp electricity, water and a dump site. We ate at the grill both nights because the food was amazing and the service was wonderful. Bring an appetite or take a go-box back to the camper! The hosts provided a map to local attractions. Easy in and easy out for our motorhome pulling a SUV toad. Don't miss out on an opportunity to share coffee in the morning with the host. Lots of good stories and compare notes with a fellow RV'er... We highly recommend the Alabama Vagabonds!
Our host greeted us when we pulled up. We had over shot the drive so we were told to go around the block to make the left turn onto the property. Our host was waiting for us when we came back around. We were told where to park and that’s when we learned there was full hookup available to us. What a surprise that was!!
Enjoyed a lovely dinner at the restaurant. Coffee with the owner the next day and was given a map of the area with things to do during our stay.
Looking forward to visiting another time on our travels. Highly recommended!!
Thank you for hosting us.
Super great food with a lake view. Nice quiet place to stay! Would definitely stay here again!
Alabama Vagabonds was an excellent host. Very friendly and accommodating. He offered great suggestions for places to eat in Fairhope and chatted with us a while about RVing and travel. This location is in a really nice spot right on the river by the dock. We enjoyed sitting on the restaurant deck drinking coffee in the mornings before patrons arrived. We'd definitely stay here again but hope Alabama Vagabonds can fulfill their dream and get out on the road soon! :)
We had a great time and enjoyed delicious food and cold drinks out on the deck over looking the river. We hope to stop here again sometime! Thank you Alabama Vagabonds for your generous hospitality!
We stayed at Big Daddy's for two nights and enjoyed every minute! The food, conversation and location were second to none. Would love for our paths cross again one day so we can repay Jason's generosity.
Jason and his location were amazing! He gave us a map of local activities and the location was perfect. Would highly recommend!
This was a wonderful location for the first time we boon docked! Jason was such a gracious host and everyone who walked by, was so friendly and had wonderful things to say about Jason. The location was beautiful, peaceful and a good family place.
I can't think of how the experience could have been better. There was hookups for the camper, shade, a river and a safe, lovely place to walk.
Our stay at this location will be one we remember for a long time. This area is very beautiful. We thoroughly enjoyed our time exploring it. Our host was very helpful with information about the area. He even recommended an RV Park we could go to over the Memorial Day weekend. Of which we were very grateful as everything was booked out. Thanks again. We also enjoyed the chats with our host regarding motorhoming in general and also motorhoming in Australia. I hope we gave him some inspiration to come visit some day. We were very appreciative of this hosts generosity.
Thank you. 😀🇦🇺
Big Daddy’s owner is so generous to accommodate our stay.
He makes good Grouper fingers and chicken sandwich.
Location is peaceful and turned quite after 9 pm.
This was my shortest trip to restaurant in my life.
I recommend all Boondockers
Thank you to Alabama Vagabonds
Jason is an amazing person, extremely helpful. Jason offered us a location with all the services! Upon arrival he stopped working and greeted us as though we were long time friends. He showed us the rv spot went back to work.
A superb location, a large terrace overlooking a marina. We had dinner on the terrace, it was a perfect time, the food was excellent and in large quantities. In addition we met Scott who has a pontoon at the marina, he kindly invited us to fish, we saw turtles, catfish and to close the evening Lyne caught a huge fish over 20 pounds, she worked more than 15 minutes before losing it. We offered to Scott to have dinner with us in our Vr, Nike who works at Big Daddy's joined us for an amazing evening that ended on the wee hours of the morning :) We do not speak well the English but in their companies our English is much improved :) A location that I recommend without hesitation!
Lyne & Réjean
Awesome spot!!! Located on a cove of the Fish River, Big Daddy’s hospitality was super. This is the real deal——fresh boiled crawfish, oyster/shrimp Po’Boys, and entertainment provided by local musicians. Great coffee and conversation with our host. Thank you!!!!
This place and these people were awesome! Spot was amazing and close to lots of things to see and do. We always enjoy meeting great folks and hope someday to catch them out on the road- maybe return the favor. We just have to find a cool spot where people will want to come and visit- like this one!
Jason was super friendly and most helpful. The location is truly a hidden gem. I ate at Jason's restaurant two times and the food was wonderful and fresh. His staff members were all fantastic. I can't say enough good things about location and my visit.
Big Daddy was out of town but his “minions” made sure we were set up and comfortable. Having a cup of coffee in the morning and a cold adult beverage in the evening while watching the river was very relaxing.
Enjoyed a delicious dinner prior to staying the night! Beautiful location by the river. Thank you for your hospitality.
Big Daddy is a excellent host all the hospitality one could ask for. The site is easy to get into and has all you need to enjoy your stay there. The food is a must to check out and the staff is very helpful.
Thanks, Big Daddy, I hope to see ya again!
Another awesome boondocking experience. Big Daddy’s was such a pleasant stop. The location was outstanding. The food and hospitality were great! Highly recommend this stop if you’re in the vicinity of Fairhope.
Another awesome boondocking experience. Big Daddy’s was such a pleasant stop. The location was outstanding. The food and hospitality were great! Highly recommend this stop if you’re in the vicinity of Fairhope.
Superb. A beautiful user-friendly location near Mobile, Alabama. Jason is an accomplished entrepreneur with a spectacular family-friendly restaurant on the river. If you’re in the area, stop in to experience the great atmosphere of this experienced host. Try the blackened redfish!
First and foremost, Jason is an amazing person. The location he provides is excellent. Upon arrival he stopped working and greeted us as though we were long time friends. He showed us the rv spot went back to work. We got set up and decided to have lunch at his restaurant. The staff treated us very well and the food was excellent!!!. We found some nature areas nearby and explored a Picture Plant Bog(just coming into bloom) and Weeks Preserve(nature park). The next morning Jason provided a hand drawn map of the nearby town of Fairhope. Great town with shopping and restaurants, and a nice long pier to walk on that goes out on Mobile Bay. We had a great time at this location and will definitely return. Thanks Jason for your hospitality.
We had a Special Time at Big Daddy’s Grill. Angie was there to help us park and get set up. The docks, water and boats were all fun to see. We had an exceptional dinner of seafood and jumbo to top off our evening. Quiet night and beautiful morning. After we packed up to leave we made sure to have lunch on the deck of Big Daddy’s! Thank you Jason for this amazing get away from the busy world!! Hopefully see you next winter too!
Good place to park ...they even have hookups if you need. Restaurant menu interesting! Stay here if you can. thanks
We arrived Sunday afternoon and throughly enjoyed our stay with Alabama vagabonds. The site was level and all utilities were easily assessible. Our host got us into our spot and we proceeded to enjoy a nice meal of grilled redfish and shrimp. After talking with our host in the morning we headed out to Fairhope with the special map. Very good boondocking experience. Highly recommended!!
Jason is an amazing host! Super friendly and overall nice guy. His site on property is perfect, FHU is a plus! We ate a great meal our first night, and it was delish. Nice area, plenty to see, weather was beautiful for our 2 night stay. Hope to see you again someday- make that dream happen!!!
Alabama vagabonds has a unique Boondocking location and technically you’re not Boondocking at all. We were offered water, electricity and sewer connection for those that need it right at your parking site. Enjoyed morning coffee and conversation with the owner, a fellow Air Force brat, in the restaurant kitchen before opening. Good food and a bar to enjoy during your stopover. Only wish the weather had cooperated but not much you can do about that. Easy access for our 35’ Class A with tow.
Kind host, great place to stay over. We got in after much more driving than anticipated. Our little kids were ready to be active and there was a huge sand pit for them to let loose in! We ate a lava brownie and ice cream at the restaurant and were able to relax before a very peaceful sleep on the site. We definitely felt safe with our kids overnight there and met the host in the morning who was very hospitable and kind.
What more could you ask for...this host has it all, not only full hookups, but a great locale.
All Jason asks for is to have a coffee and share your travel stories.
He will provide a personal map to tour quaint Fairhope, including some of his favourite eateries.
We enjoyed an afternoon on the patio with good food and live music, thanks again Jadon, hope to see you again...
Bob & Monique, 2Carrs
I just can't say enough good about my stay at Big Daddy's Grill and about the owner and his staff. I felt welcome from the moment I rolled onto the property. And what beautiful property it is! Located right on the river with boat slips looking out your window and beautiful water views. So quiet and relaxing. I also had several early morning coffee conversations with the owner about RVing. I hope to sit around a campfire one day with him and his wife if they decide to go full time!
What a nice place to stop on our way out West and how delicious was the blackened triple tail fish. We arrived to late to meet the host but luckely we could chat with him in the morning before leaving. Host is very friendly and kind. His staff was very welcoming and explained us where to park. We sat on the patio by the river watching kids playing in the giant sandbox while enjoying our dinner and beer. Very pleasant stay, quiet place and good food. Highly recommended! Thanks so much!
My husband and I stayed at Big Daddy's Grill in Fairhope Alabama for two nights on our way out west. We found Big Daddy's to be the perfect spot for our short stay. Jason, the owner, and all of his staff were incredibly welcoming and kind. Jason even gave us his handdrawn map of the surrounding area and we spent a wonderful day exploring the beautiful town of Fairhope! The surroundings at Big Daddy's were serene and tranquil being right on the Fish River. The restaurant serves delicious food and has a good selection of craft beers on tap. We had the gumbo and the blackened triple tail dinner and it was cooked to perfection! The RV spot that we were provided was spacious and provided water, electric (30 amp), and sewer hookup as well. I can't say enough wonderful things about this place!! Thank you Big Daddy's for the hospitality!!! We will definitely stop in again when we are in the area! I highly recommend this place for anyone traveling through. This was our first Boondockers Welcome experience and couldn't have been better.
A very good area to park in with everything you need. BUT... the food... excellent. I ate both nights I stayed here and came away with a satisfied belly. The sea food is great but you better bring an empty stomach and a big appetite to have the Big Daddy burger. Even if your full you will not want to leave any behind so come prepared. The owner is a very interesting and diverse fellow with an appetite for any knowledge on the RVing lifestyle. A very good experience for my first time with Boondockers welcome. Thanks for a memorable visit. JJ thanks you as well.
Laid back atmosphere and the restaurant is delicious. The owner is very hospitable and our 3 year old son had fun exploring and playing in the giant sandbox.
Plenty of space to fit our 40' fifth wheel. Loved our stay here and will be staying again in the future!
This was my first time using Boondockers Welcome and what a perfect experience. The RV space has everything any RVer would need for hookups, but that is not what's important here. What makes this boondocking experience so perfect is Jason and his hospitality. You can't find a better option for spending a few days. Jason is a great guy who runs a fabulous business. Jason is engaging, welcoming and accommodating wanting you to truly enjoy your stay. His restaurant is a casual laid back place for some great food with a staff that is just as welcoming and friendly as Jason. I've thoroughly enjoyed my stay and will be back. Thank you Jason and all the crew at Big Daddy's.
This was a great boondocking location! We ate at the restaurant on our first night and I loved being able to see the river. The owner was friendly and really interesting to talk to. I loved hearing about his plans to full-time in the future! Hopefully we see him in his future travels.
This was a wonderful location. It was close to things we wanted to do and we had the added bonus of being able to go into the restaurant to get a meal. The food was yummy and J was a great host. He showed us where he wanted us to park and gave us information about the area and things to do. I would highly recommend this host, as well as the location!
Our family had an incredibly enjoyable stay at Big Daddy’s! It was a great bonus to have hookup while we were there too. Gulf Shores was very drivable and we had a great day by the ocean.
Big Daddy was very welcoming and friendly. I enjoyed talking with him. His parking spot was a great set up for a camper. Hope to see him on the road when he starts boondocking himself.
This was a great place to stay in a great location. Easy to get into for a 40 ft. Motorhome. Our host was very warm and welcoming.
Jason, Thanks for staying at your wonderful place! Unfortunately we can’t met each other. You have a Great staff!! Had nice talkings with a few girls, they ate Very friendly and helpfull so you are blessed with them (you can say that to them). Your food is great!!! And the place quiet and peaceful. Hope to come back an other time

Great food at the restaurant and Fairhope is an amazing little town! The host here is a genuinely kind person and we had fun chatting with him. We were given a map to some surrounding restaurants that were absolutely delicious! There was an adorable little kitten living on the property that we fell in love with, we named her olive eyes.
We liked Fairhope so much we even checked out the housing market online for giggles haha. Thanks for everything!
Great host, great view, great amenities & great restaurant right there!
We loved our stay with Alabama vagabunds
The place is spacious, and unique. It has great views of the lake. The restaurant is amazing and we love the food. But the best part of all was meeting our host.
He was nice, welcoming and gave us all information about the town, some history of the area and even tips for our next destination.
I hope to see you on the road soon!
Our visit with Alabama Vagabonds was absolutely perfect. Our host greeted us upon our arrival and made us feel so comfortable and welcomed. He supplied us with plenty of information to help us orient to this lovely area. Directions to Alabama Vagabonds were excellent, with no issues getting to our spot, which was huge, and had a beautiful view of the river! We very much enjoyed our dinner at Big Daddy's Grill, and would highly recommend it while you are here! We thoroughly enjoyed our visit and give our host all the credit for that! Thank you for making our trip so relaxing! Last, but not least, thank you for the coffee! :-)
We found out too late about Big Daddy's winter hours which meant the restaurant was closed and vacated on the day we arrived. We'd been looking forward to dinner and adult beverages within walking distance of "home," a treat when you're full-time RVers. However, we did enjoy a delicious meal before leaving the next day with friendly service to boot. The water/electric hookup was super generous and the directions to this one-of-a-kind, gotta-see-it hangout were super. Looking forward to a warm weather re-visit!
Stayed two nights at Big Daddy’s. The host was on vacation, so we never got to meet him. Easy to get to, didn’t find any issues coming down Ferry Rd. (His directions tell you that there is a difficult turn along the way, but we don’t know what turn this could be as none were problematic for our 36’ motorhome towing a car.) General note to boondockers: the site on which you park is not gravel, but dirt. There were very heavy rains before we arrived and the parking site was extremely wet, puddled and muddy. It was hard to find a spot where our motorhome door didn’t open into mud. So, if there has been heavy rain prior to your reservation here and mud is going to be an issue for you, call ahead or consider staying elsewhere. The majority of the water had drained within 24 hours, but the mud remained. (By the way, we did eat at Big Daddy’s and the food was excellent. Especially the hush puppies, potato salad and cole slaw, which we bought to go before leaving! Also, do chat with the locals who stop by to check their boats. We learned a lot about the area from friendly folk, including that the confederates used to hide ammunition and/or weapons along the Fish River during the civil war, and Jimmy Buffet used to dock a boat here.)
We enjoyed our stay and had to try the food and we weren't disappointed! It was a little rainy so we are glad we had rain boats but hey you are in Alabama and near swamp land for a reason. Hopefully, we can come swing thru in the future and stay a second time.
Jason has set the bar pretty high for a boondockers host! Between the full hookups to the quiet surrounding neighbourhood to Jason's awesome restaurant! You'll be hard pressed to find another host that measures up!
I should add that Jason is pretty special! Warm, outgoing, personable, hospitable. Basically he's one of the good guys.
Jason is awesome- very personable and friendly. Everyone is friendly here! Food is good too. The spot is great, very quiet at night.
Our stay was a great experience. Not only was the RV site a gem, there was the bonus of great food and cold beer just steps away. The weather put a damper on the Christmas Boat Parade but downtown Fairhope made up for it. We will be back!
Nice back in space with 30 Amp, water, and sewer. Lots is level and plenty of clearance for RV's. The restaurant sits right on the water, the food is delicious, and the staff are very welcoming.
Had a great conversation with the owner, and he also recommend multiple places to eat/drink in Fairhope. We needed to stay an extra night, to avoid a day of travel in the rain. Jason was great, had no problems with us extending.
The parking spot is on the north end of the parking lot. There a three entrances, take the second entrance. You can pull into the second entrance, and it will circle around to the parking area the RV.
Also this is a restaurant that get busy. I suggest getting here before 3 PM, parking lots fills up around 4-5.
Great place for a stopover nearby fair hope to bumble around the town good food and friendly atmosphere!at this boondockerwelcome facility!
Big Daddy's was our first B-W. What a great way to start. We pulled into an almost level site and had full hookups. How wonderful. Especially when two tanks are full and the fresh water tank is empty. We had tasty crabcake sandwiches and hush puppies for supper, then sat back for an evening of TV. The next morning, I met the owner, Jason when I walked into the kitchen and scared the crap out of him. We shared stories for a long time, as he prepared food for the day. What a great guy! We are looking forward to visiting again in our return trip home. Thanks
Fairhope, what a wonderful town!
Magnificent food at Big Daddy’s.
I’m gonna go outa my way to visit here again, maybe look for some land to build on.
Fairhope is a gorgeous town, and around 10 minutes from our Host’s location. Check out the beach and shopping while you are there! There was a beautiful view from the spot where we set up, and our host was friendly and welcoming. (Hope to have more time to chat next time!) We had a great experience for our first time using Boondockers Welcome, and will definitely be stopping here again on our way back through!
We found this spot to be wonderful.. delicious food and the host was so friendly. We would highly recommend Big Daddy's to any Boondockers. We shall return!
P.S. Coffee pot is on in the mornings! Thanks Jason!!
We enjoyed our quiet time on the river and the food at the restaurant. The host greeted us and was kind and friendly.
Don't miss this spot!
Stayed one night and had a wonderful time. We hope to come again and stay longer next time. A great host and was able to share a lot of good information with us.
We had a wonderful time while staying and would highly recommend it. The food was delicious and the host is extremely pleasant to have coffee with! We fit our 30ft travel trailer in with no problems! Plus we had room for the 22ft Ram 3500 dually :-)
This place is great. Jason is wonderful and a great person to meet. He is a wealth of knowledge. He greeted us with coffee the first morning and gave us a wealth of information about things to do here. He is even letting us stay an extra night. The bar/restaurant is excellent. Great food and good beer. We will define stay here again given the chance.
I stayed only one night there, but it was peaceful, quiet and very pretty. I recommend staying at Jason's place where you can boondock and have a good meal at his fine restaurant.
Better than described - the photos don’t do this spot justice... the views we woke up to of calm river water, with blue skies and sunshine were beautiful... I’d upload a photo of I could!
Big Daddy and his team were welcoming and super friendly - and of course the food at Big Daddy’s grill was great too. We just wish we had time for a second night.
Highly recommended - and I hope to stay in touch with Big Daddy for future RVing chat and maybe we can help if/when he visits the UK.
Lots of love from Tom and Katie
What a great location and welcome. Had an outstanding stay. Great visit with Jason. He is the role model host for those who do not have an rv. At least not yet, but learning from all of us luck enough to stay at Big Daddy's. Great food at the restaurant and we were given a handy map of the area. Fairhope is a delightful laid back area. Hope To return and one day provide as good hospitity when Jason and his wife get their RV and visit south Florida. Thanks for sharing.
Big Daddy’s is a super place in a very nice location. The people here are very friendly and helpful. Fairhope is a fun small town too. If we’re back this way we will ask to stay again. Thanks!
Excellent location and a gracious host. Full hookups was a treat and a restaurant 25 ft from the camper = an awesome experience.
This place was fantastic! You are right next to the water, with bar and great food next door. The people are all so friendly. My wife and I have no idea about southern food, and the friendly team went through the menu and explained everything! They even bought us fried Okra to try!!!
The campsite is level with full hook-up, and we found driving our RV around a breeze!
This spot is absolutely fantastic. It has full hookup and it feels like being on a campground - only better: The host was unbelievably friendly and did everything to make us feel welcome. He gave us lots of helpful travel recommendations, which made us decide to stay another night. He is simply a really good person, who shares this awesome place with people from all over the world and makes is possible for people on a budget, like us, to have a really good time. The restaurant is gorgeous, people sit outside, all staff and guests are super nice, there is music, a scenic river view, and little lights make for a perfect summer night. The kids loved to play at the little sand beach and did not ever want to leave. Fairhope is probably one of the most beautiful towns we have ever visited. We simply fell in love with the whole place and are so grateful to have found this lovey location.
We only stayed a night at this location but it’s right on the river and a little walk away is a park with a tiny beach entrance to the river. We only met the owner for a quick time but he was very welcoming. We ate at his restaurant and had a lovely meal while
Listening to a live band!
This boondock location was far beyond expectations. Jason was a super host and the location all we could ask for. Be sure to eat at the Big Daddy's Grill. Our family loved it.
We were greeted with open arms! It was a very nice place to stay and on the water. Jason has a great setup and is extremely helpful.
This place is so peaceful and relaxing. Jason is really welcoming, so is the staff at his restaurant Big Daddy's, wich is also really good. This area of Alabama is charming and there is stuff to do in Fairhope. Highly recommend!
Thx again Jason
We just spent 2 nights at Fish River Paradise and had an amazing experience!
The directions given by Jason were clear and easy to follow. Upon arrival Jason was there to greet us and show us the spot with FULL HOOK UP!
The restaurant is on a beautiful part of Fish River and we were parked under a tree with plenty of space and privacy.
After we got set up, we went into the restaurant for some beers and food. Great staff, really good selection of beers and cocktails and a vast menu.
The food was really good (especially the gumbo) and we had a lovely few hours chatting with Jason, some locals and the bar staff there. Jason even gave us a great map with all the things and places we should see in Fairhope. The next day we visited the weeks Bay and the town of Fairhope, really nice town with some old buildings and good restaurants/bars.
Jason invited us for coffee in the morning and we learned a lot about the area and had a wonderful time.
We would highly recommend Jason and the Restaurant, and we will definitely be back!
Thanks again Jason, you and your family are welcome in St Pete anytime!
What a great time we had staying here! Jason was over the top awesome and the location was cool too! And the food was excellent!
Excellent stay, nice location, nice staff & great food! Highly recommended!
The owner welcomed us right away and let us use the premises for the duration of our stay. We enjoyed reading on the dock by the river. While here, we took the opportunity to eat at Big Daddy’s every day. We understand why it is the top restaurant in the vincinity according to Trip Advisor.
The staff of the restaurant took care of us and we felt part of the family.
We took a few hours to visit Fairhope and were impressed by the beautiful small town which has a lot of character.
We have no hesitation to recommend this place for a stopover.
Jason is a super nice guy in a very sweet spot! We truly enjoyed our conversations with him. He was an excellent host and the space he offered was wonderful! We will definitely be visiting again!
We had a great overnight stay at Fish River Paradise. Jason is a great host. The food and service at his restaurant, Big Daddy's Grill, is excellent. The view of the Fish River is relaxing. He does have full hookups if needed as a courtesy and fresh coffee in the morning. We enjoyed sharing stories of our travels and the RV lifestyle. We will look him up if we are traveling through this way again. Cathy & Mark
Once again we had a great overnight with Jason at Big Daddy's. Peaceful stopover with great morning conversation with Jason. Highly recommend this host.
We had a great time staying at BIG DADDY'S. All the staff were very friendly and helpful, we both loved the food and great local beers. We explored Fairhope during our stay, poking around antique shops, hitting the yoga studio and of course, the brewery. All excellent. We would love to visit Jason again and wish you all the best with getting your wheels turning, keep in touch and we would love to meet again!
What a great location for an even better restaurant! Jason is definitely the "Host With The Most", and I got to meet his wife Susan who had never met one of their Boondockers before. Such a fun spot - thanks!
We truly enjoyed our overnight at Jason’s place. The spot, the food and the company were just great! If we are ever in the area we would definitely stay here again.
So nice of Jason to have water/ electric and sewer for guests!
Definitely eat here too. The crab cake sandwich was delicious!
Jason and his Big Daddy Grill staff were welcoming, kind and his Boondockers spot is sufficiently large for most RV's ... my 22' nestled in perfect under a tree and next to their storage container. Walked dog on country road "in the neighborhood" and spent some lovely time w a beer & book on deck before heading inside for a snack.
Definitely a "Super Host"; only spent one night as was passing through but would have liked to explore nearby town but matter a future trip? Thanks Jason & Taylor and Angie for your kindness. J T
Jason is a very friendly and hospitable host. His staff are very friendly and helpful as well. We enjoyed our two nights here.
Great overnight. Best for smaller rigs. Food was delicious! Thanks.
This is a great spot right on the Fish River and Jason's restaurant serves great food as well! He made us feel most welcome and comfortable right from the start. What a pleasant departure from the typical RV Park .. We would definitely stay here again if we find ourselves in the area.
What can I say about Jason, that hasn't already been said. He has been a very gracious host. When we got here, he had a map of some great places to eat, do our laundry, fill the propane, and just enjoy ourselves. He can't wait to get on the road, and we talked about being full timers. We absolutely love Fairhope, and the surrounding area. The time here, has just flown by, and we will be sad to leave. Don't miss this hidden gem in the Alabama woods, you will not regret stopping here, and enjoying everything this place has to offer.
A great location with the perfect opportunity to enjoy a "night out". No cooking, good eating and a walk across the parking lot to a safe haven for a quiet nights rest. Perfect, thanks.
We had a great time. Visiting at the restaurant with staff and guests was so much fun! Thanks so much!
This was a fun spot to be for a few days. There was plenty of room to fit our big rig in the designated spot but the parking area fills up with customers and would have been hard to maneuver if full. Great sand pit that our kids spent most of their time at. A dock we sat at and had coffee or could fish from. Host is very freindly and welcoming and yes, there was always coffee. Hope to come back again!
Loved staying there, Jason was excellent, great conversation, very kind man.
The place is really pretty, worth going through.
Thank you jason
We enjoyed our 2 days in this gem of a town Fairhope, which has a lovely water front with plenty of places for walking and stopping for a great coffee. Our host was gracious and very informative and he made us feel completely welcome and at home. Excellent location right on the river. Thanks for having us!
We thoroughly enjoyed our stay in this beautiful area of Alabama. Jason and all of his staff are so friendly and so accommodating. Great meals at the restaurant too! This was our first experience with boondockers welcome and it was great! Thanks again, Jason, for everything.!
friendly people, good location, good food and beer available, very helpful with local info, hope to see you on the road soon
Paul and Ineke
Jason est un hôte en or. Très sympathique et accueillant. Coup de coeur pour nous. Endroit calme et agréable. Les filles ont adoré le sand pit. Merci pour tout et à une prochaine sans aucun doute!!! :)
Jason was GREAT - Super friendly guy! Kim and I both agree that we feel like we not only have a new spot we'd like to revisit, but that we also have a new friend in Fairhope! Honestly I felt like I had known Jason for years after only a few minutes! Thanks, Joe (with Kim's blessing!).
Wonderful host! Caution: don't follow Garmin RV 770 directions, use Google. It sends you to a turn we couldn't make in our 40 ft. rig, and no way to pass it as we were too heavy for the bridge.
After being greeted with a "I have coffee ready" and after engaging in conversation with Mr. Alabama Vagabonds, I wished we would have stayed another day. There was plenty of space and had exactly what primitive campers in a teardrop needed! Thank you for your hospitality!!!
What a beautiful and amazing experience! Thank you, Jason and everyone for the all-out hospitality, the recommendations (Walter Anderson Museum is mesmerizing) and for the sheer kindness and joy. Oh, and Big Daddy's Grill fried seafood is the best we've ever had, and we've had some :)
Everything about this place was brilliant. Jason and his team were fantastic. We had to stay a few extra days to have some maintenance issues sorted and everyone helped us out. We did not want to leave. A wonderful part of the world. Thank you
This was a great spot to go. There's was plenty of room for our rig and we felt out of the way. The restaurant was great, with great local seafood and local beers. The spot right on the Fish River was gorgeous. We were there in November, but i can imagine what its like in the summer. Jason was an awesome host, taking time from his busy goings-on to make sure we had everything we needed and knew what there is to do in the area. Great spot that I highly recommend people check out.
Staying at Alabama Vagabonds was SO fun. It felt like a vacation from the full-time life. Jason is such a kind person and takes care of his guests, while being so busy running a restaurant! His staff is also extremely courteous. The food is fantastic, so is the view and the amenities. Oh, and the free coffee ;) Highly recommend, thanks Jason!
Our time with Jason was amazing! Great river view, excellent food, free coffee and fun discussions on RVing and life.
We truly enjoyed every moment of our time in Fairhope and couldn't have asked for a better host. Jason is super friendly, super excited about the RV life and we would come back in a heartbeat.
Highly recommend this stop!
We had friends in the area but had no idea where we could park our rig while visiting with them. The Alabama Vagabonds came to the rescue. Not only did they provide a nice shaded spot to park but we were able to visit with our friends while having a nice lunch in the restaurant. I can't wait to visit again and see the town since we were on a tight schedule this time. We will definitely be back.
Alabama Vagabonds are as laid back as their eating establishment, and the surrounding area (Fairhope AL). The sweet spot was next to a boat launch and alongside his very hospitable family style restaurant. My host was true to his word. He traded me a good morning cup-o-jo, for some very engaging RV shop talk. He got back with me within 12 hours, was cool with my dog, and was very generous with a site map, local park location, recommendations for sight seeing, he had wifi, and Ice, and zero hassles. He's a really good guy, and I feel privileged to have been able to stay with him at his BD location. Thank you again, and good luck with your ensuing Tiffin plan............
Alabama Vagabonds' restaurant is in a beautiful, quiet spot on the Fish River. The owner and his staff were extremely hospitable and we enjoyed some great southern style seafood in his family restaurant. He gave us a hand drawn map of the area along with some tips on places of interest in nearby Fairhope which is a very pretty town on the water. We highly recommend this spot – generous host and beautiful area.
I can't say enough good things about Alabama Vagabonds and his place. Within minutes it felt like we were old friends--he's one of the kindest, warmest people we've met. Food at the restaurant is great, and all the staff is just as friendly and welcoming. The restaurant even has a little sandy beach area that our kids LOVED playing in each day. Nights were quiet, and we felt very safe. The town of Fairhope is a gem, and we loved exploring the area. Will definitely stay again if we find ourselves back in the area, and we're looking forward to hosting Alabama Vagabonds down the road:)
If you'd like to experience Southern hospitality at its best, then overnight at Alabama Vagabonds. You'll be graciously welcomed, nestled in a waterfront park like setting complete with resident ducks, and have the ability to enjoy delicious, local food. Great Overnight stay with a people person host and his accommodating staff. Thank you, we will be back for sure.
This host took care of us like we have been friends forever. We ran into severe weather and his advice was more than welcome. The place is perfect, and the restaurant is terrific too. Couldn't be happier. I highly recommend this host.
So glad we stopped for the night, great location, great restaurant, most congenial host. Nice little town. Stop in, you wont regret it!
We had a wonderful time in Fairhope at Big Daddy's Grill. Wonderful food and such a gracious host. The restaurant is on the water and you are a short drive from town. So glad we made this stop. Thank you again! Hopefully we'll be back some day!
Stayed a couple of nights with this host. Couldn't ask for a nicer guy and place to park. Not only is the food great at his restaurant but his staff are also first rate. Parking spot is level and easy to get into. Fairhope is a great vacation destination and this host had many recommendations of what there is to do and see in the area.
ALABAMA VAGABONDS was a wonderful host sincerely gracious!! His site is perfect, peaceful, and to get the yummiest oysters in Alabama you only need cross the parking lot to his restaurant. Fairhope is a delightful town and the beaches are just south down the road. Would always look for a chance to stay again.
Staying at this location was great! It was a nice, quiet and safe place to stay, in a super quiet neighbourhood too. The surrounding towns were gorgeous and we really enjoyed all the host's recommendations! This was our first time boondocking and we couldn't have asked for a better host! Highly recommended!
This spot is a very unique must stop type of place. Fairhope, AL has so much history and was a great time. The host was so friendly and made us feel at home. So close to so many things make sure you plan to stay more than a night. We are already talking about next time! You will not be disappointed by stopping here.
We stayed 2 days with alabama vagabonds and it was really worth the detour! Our host was really friendly and just a fantastic person to chat RV and travel with. Very close to town for laundry and grocery and the site is real quiet at night. It's right next to a lake too. Our host even had a sewer and water faucet available for us! We hope we can stay there again in the futur.
We have met a very nice man. He welcome us and made all the facilities available. We hope see him again.
Thanks a lot
This place is se cure, quiet and lovely beside the Marina and the restaurant. You have to go eat at thé restaurant it is so delicious. I Took thé fish. Thé generosity of thé host is unbelievable by letting you use the electricity and the water. You feel to continue this generosity toward other people. Great place, friendly people, Good food whatelse you want more.
Truly an exceptional host location. It's right on the water on the Fish River, an absolute wonderful bar and restaurant with great food! The staff at the restaurant are so friendly, just an overall great eating experience LOL!
There owner was an excellent host, welcoming when I got there and helpful with local details on how to get around the area. We were able to chat a couple of times early in the morning over coffee while he was doing his prep work, he just makes you feel right at home in his kitchen.
Will I be back? You bet! Thank you!
