Ken is a retired over-the-road truck driver owner/operator. Robin is a retired NW Missouri farmer raising corn, soybeans, hogs and kids---not necessarily in that order. She has also worked as an ag consultant in Ukraine, an advertising and marketing specialist in New York and spent 10 years teaching 5th and 6th grade Social Studies. We currently live on a Century Family Farm located about 25 miles east of St. Joseph, Missouri and 55 miles north of Kansas City, Missouri. Both of us are history buffs. When not "Road-Tripping" we keep busy with a large vegetable garden, sharing good food and good times with friends and neighbors, and participating in church activities.
We are the parents of 9 living children and 50+ grandchildren and great-grand-children; all living in Missouri. Most of all we love exploring our beautiful land and just visiting with people, learning about their travels and experiences and gathering new ideas for places we need to add to our "bucket list". We have visited 49 states including two road-trips to Alaska and most of Canada and Robin has spent significant time in Europe.
We look forward to hosting visitors to our farm and sharing tips for things to see and do all across North America.
Ken is excellent at providing directions and driving tips for almost anywhere, as he spent his entire life as an over-the-road truck driver. Robin has 50+ years experience in planning travel adventures throughout North America. She has extensive knowledge of US History, geography and roadside sites and enjoys sharing her travel knowledge.
Both love to share their experiences while staying in all types of campgrounds and visiting a huge variety of interesting sites in most of Canada and every state except Hawaii .
We traveled with Angie, our dear Samoyed "ball of white fluff" for 13 years. She was a great traveler and was in nearly every state, including Alaska before dying from Cancer. We miss her, but at this stage of life we have decided no more pets. We have two barn cats, one of which is always ready to crawl up on somebody's lap.
We primarily stay in small town, county, state or Federal campgrounds, including Corps of Engineer parks and an occasional Fairgrounds, some primitive but most with electricity. However, we have boondocked in Alaska and Idaho, with our favorite being along the Lochsa River, a wild and scenic National Waterway, in North Central Idaho. Spectacular scenery all to ourselves!
We both grew up on Missouri farms. Today, we live on the family farm, first purchased by Robin's family in 1892. Our home, was not quite completed when Robin's family bought the farm. It has remained in the family ever since and we are proud to call it home. Our farm is about 25 miles from St. Joseph, MO, home to Jesse James and the Pony Express. It is also just about 55 miles from Kansas City and Independence, MO, proud home towns of the Kansas City Chiefs and Royals and Harry Truman. We live in the heart of Trails West history, with the Pony Express starting in St. Joseph, Missouri and the Oregon, California and Santa Fe Trails setting out from either St, Joseph or Kansas City areas.

We were privileged to host a very sweet and fun couple. It was a pleasure talking and getting to know them! They were best!
The host communicated well with us before arriving. They were there and able to show us the site and provided a 30amp cord for electrical hook up. Enjoyed the conversations a lot almost as much as the coffee cake. lol There is a really good place to eat in Cameron called Robyn's on 3rd st. We went walking by the lake but started to rain so didin't get very far. The host has a box full of information and things to do in the area. There is hwy noise but do not let it discourage you this is a good stop with a safe setting. Would stay again if in this area.
Thanks, a Bunch
The MissouriBirds are a gracious and serving Ma and Pa farm couple. She made a guest box filled with things to do in the area, basic information about businesses and amenities close by. It was completed with fresh Peach Cobbler Muffins!
They have a paved covered patio area complete with an available Weber grill to use. We enjoyed chatting with them on their patio, while admiring the beautiful sunsets on both nights.
They do a lot of RV traveling and can give advice for areas in about any state, including Alaska! (There’s another bucket list item!)
It’s easy access to the highway and we enjoyed the feel of farm country living next to the corn fields and out building.
One thing we Coloradoan’s didn’t know… Missouri has chiggers. Be prepared with repellent or protective clothing.
Thanks to the Missouri Birds! You made our stay special!
What a joy to spend some time chewing the fat with MissouriBirds. Sitting in their outdoor kitchen area we conversed about things large and small while taking in the cornfields near by and country air.
They are so kind and interesting. One missed his calling as a stand-up comic, while the other was a lady loaded with wisdom.
I hope we find ourselves in this neighborhood again so we can stop in to see them.
The cat, Barack, was my favorite though.
We had a great stay with the MissouriBirds. They are a very friendly and helpful couple. We couldn’t have asked for a better stay!
Created like good old freinds. They have a great package put together of things to do or see in the area.. I would stay there again, it's nice place to stay with truly people pleasing hosts.
I had a long day of driving and so did they. Even though they had been gone for weeks, hosted with an enthusiasm.
Despite the location next to the highway, it was very easy to get a good night sleep.
The outdoor kitchen is amazing.
I hope to pass through again!
A nice place to stay along the way and great people to talk with.
Pleasant visit on a beautiful farm.
Hosts were kind and engaging. Had a great time chatting about past travel adventures.
Would definitely recommend and stay again if we come back to the area.
Host met us with a sweet treat, and assisted us to get parked. So helpful.
We had such a fun time visiting with Ken and Robin!
We were warmly welcomed and made to feel at home so far from our own home.
The farm is charming and the property is beautiful.
We feel we have made lifetime friends in Missouri.
We would definitely stay here again when we are in this part of the country......and " that's a fact!"
The Missouri Birds were incredible hosts. Yummy pastries upon arrival, made sure I had everything I needed for a great stay. Loved the early evening chats and local information. Would definitely like to stay again someday.
We stopped here and were greeted by the Hosts who helped us park and gave us a container with information about tourism in the area as well as their guest book. Most surprising was the muffins in the container for our breakfast the following morning! They are interesting folks who have seen quite a bit of the USA and Europe. Very quiet and restful stop. Weather was perfect!
Great stop in on our way to Montana and best outdoor kitchen I’ve ever used. They let us grille out, shared some corn 🌽 and tomatoes 🍅 and helped us with a small trailer problem. Great couple!
Traveling during this hot hot weather has its challenges and finding a peaceful and homelike spot to rest on a family farm is especially meaningful. They made me feel beyond welcome and like part of their extended family. I
spent one night at with these host and enjoyed getting to know them a bit. They have traveled extensively and shared their favorite spots which is very helpful. Good salt of the earth folks and I’ll be sure to drop by if I’m ever in the area again.
I had my fan on all night and didn’t hear any road noise from US 36.
Thank you for your hospitality😄
Had a great visit with Missouri birds
A great place to stay with wonderful host
We loved staying with MissouriBirds - super friendly and welcoming and a great location. Lovely to hang out and chat about travels
Missouri Birds are thoughtful, accommodating, exceptional hosts. We ended up staying an extra night and cannot speak highly enough of the time spent chatting and discussing travels, faith, and life. We hope to keep in touch and will definitely go out of our way to stay with them again if we are in this part of the country.
Easy access, easy to park and connect, and is a beautiful farm!! Highly recommended hosts!
Missouribirds are incredibly gracious hosts full of information about the area.
They delighted us with stories of their travels and tips for certain areas of the country.
Thank you Missouribirds!
