We have owned a few campers including travel trailer, fifth wheel and now a pick up camper. While we enjoy traveling without a set schedule, it can be comforting to know there is a safe place to park overnight. This is what led us to look into Boondockers Welcome and become a host.
We have two horses. We have had yellow Labs in the past but are not yet ready to have another dog.
Not much experience boondocking but looking forward to enjoying the adventure.

This was our first ever stay, and our hosts went above and beyond!! They were so gracious, generous and helpful. While we were not able to meet personally, we enjoyed getting to meet their daughter and grandson (who were equally welcoming and accommodating). We really cannot sing their praises enough! ❤️
We loved the little town of Westby, enjoying cheese & butter from the local creameries, meeting the owners of the quaint Scandinavian store and purchasing a book by local author Sue Berg set in the beautiful driftless area of Wisconsin.
A nice quite peaceful evening after a hectic week of preparing for our trip! Just what was ordered! Due to misunderstanding on my part (first time using Boondockers) we never actually met, but did communicate in the morning. We watched their horses in the morning out our back window while drinking our coffee and tea, listening to the rain on the roof before we took off!
Jay and Cathy had prepared a package with information about the local area. I ended up doing the bike ride from Sparta to Elroy. This ride has a 1-mile tunnel in complete darkness, very interesting. I also used the free dump at the site.
Thanks for a very nice stay
Absolutely lovely host who greeted us, showed us around the place and give us his local family history as we exchanged stories for a bit. Very easy parking and it was so lovely to wake up to beautiful pastures and gorgeous horses enjoying life.
I think this is our favorite Boondocker‘s Welcome sight! It was clean, quiet, concrete and level. There were fantastic sunset views of the valley west of town. We are not familiar with horses, but really enjoyed watching them wander around their pasture. The shaded porch was an added pleasure as we kind of needed a down day and that was a perfect setting for it. We did not utilize the firewood put out for us, but really appreciated it being there.
We didn’t get to meet Jay and Cathy, as they were out of town, but would love to go back for another stay just to meet them and have a nice chat with them.
The hosts were great. They let me stay even though they were away. Communication was great. Another guest was visiting and we had a nice conversation. The view was breathtaking. There is a great bike trail that is a block away and the town has a lot of charm. Request this spot, you won't regret it!
Our host greeted us and showed us around his barn, let us pet his horses, offered us cold beverages. They had a packet of info about local restaurants and shops, which was very helpful. They even let us use their firewood to have a fire in their above ground fire pit. We can’t say enough good things about our hosts and their location. Thank you!
The parking spot was a large paved driveway and had plenty of room for maneuvering.
Our host greeted us immediately with a smile as big as his cowboy hat! He helped us to get settled in. He also gave us a welcome packet that his wife had prepared. Lots of good info. We enjoyed watching the horses frolic and graze from a distance. The horses and property were absolutely beautiful. It was a great stay, and would stay again! : )
Jay_and_Cathy have a great set-up for "luxury boondocking"! Their location just a short beautiful drive south of Hwy 90 made it the perfect choice on our cross-country trip. Jay was lightning-fast in responding to our request, and offered so much local knowledge in recommendations for meals and recreation, most in walking distance!! Located right at the edge of town, accommodations were super-convenient with concrete pad, easy turn-around and beautiful views. Very quiet and so restful! Wonderful hospitality, looking forward to staying longer and exploring the area next time!
This was our 2nd Boondocker spot and it did not disappoint. Jay was the best host you could ask for. He accommodated us for a same day stay. His place was immaculate and the views were just beautiful. We enjoyed every minute in this cute little town!
