I travel throughout the country for business and pleasure. I seek safe spots to park (and wifi). My 10 lb Maltese medical alert service dog and I are very clean, pick up after ourselves, and treat your property with care.
HOST BOONDOCKING RULES
As of June 2021, PLEASE DO NOT BOOK UNTIL YOU READ THE FOLLOWING:
THE BACKYARD SPOT IS UNAVAILABLE THROUGH THE END OF 2021.
If you request to stay during this time, it will be on the street in front of my house. It is a city street (a quieter one, but nonetheless, a public city street). If your cord is long enough, you could plug in for a short period of time, but not stay plugged in due to public sidewalk. While not ideal, many people have stayed there due to being too large or difficult to get into the backyard. We have never had any issues with our RV or others parking on the street as long as vehicles are moved every 1st and 3rd Wednesday of the month 8 am - noon for street sweeping (or you will be ticketed).
Technically, I believe the city rules are sleeping in vehicles only in an emergency situation or for less than 4 hours, but I have never seen this enforced. However, campers may not be unhooked and left on public streets and I understand that is enforced. Experienced boondockers know the drill.
6/21/21 We have been happy to host for the last 6 years and were the only boondocking spot near the coast from Orange County to Santa Barbara for several years. Unfortunately, an inexperienced boondocker ruined it for everyone. There is generally enough room for 4 cars in front of my house to the corner when the neighbors don't have guests. On the day of boondockers' arrival, I try to strategically park my car (I usually park in my garage) so that no one else parks in front of my house.
I give instructions about where you can find parking a block away if the area is full while I get any cars moved. However, I may be unavailable or not at home when you arrive, particularly if I have not been told the time of your arrival. I cannot control a public street.
I will handle getting any cars moved (which has never been a problem). In the meantime, there are plenty of places to park only steps away (this is not a big city where you have to circle for blocks to find parking). DO NOT INVOLVE THE NEIGHBORS UNDER ANY CIRCUMSTANCES. This is boondocking, not a campground. While many travelers have enjoyed this location, especially because there was nothing else available and area campgrounds are often full and/or very expensive, there are other hosts who have joined in this geographic area that may offer a better boondocking spot, particularly if you have a camper. There are also campgrounds nearby.
The last 2 guests we had were both originally from Harvest Hosts. Neither seemed to read the information on this site nor understand the two work differently, even though both are now unfor
tunately, under one umbrella. Tip: If you have never boondocked before, do not ever bring attention to someone's property by involving neighbors, the city, police, etc. unless there is an actual emergency (not having a spot open in front of my house is not an emergency). We have enough credits to last for years, so we just wanted to help other travelers, not create problems parking our own RV or for other travelers. Hopefully, this all made you laugh, but it is actually true. It also happened at a very busy time when we were also dealing with a death, so it is last thing we had time for. We hope to start laughing soon.
We are happy to help travelers. If you are in need of water and electric, we request a small donation for your stay.
We are responsible, respectful, honest and expect the same. We live in a nice, quiet neighborhood, so please don't be the first person that creates unnecessary disturbances and ruins it for everyone.
~ The RV space is through a very narrow alley off a narrow alley, which makes it difficult to maneuver anything into it. Due to a low garage overhang and neighbor's fence, it is best not to risk the maneuver unless you are extremely skilled and it is daylight. You are welcome to park in front of the house instead.
~ You are welcome to use lawn chairs and a BBQ in the side yard. I cannot guarantee my dog won't beg for your food. Please lock the gate when you are finished.
~ Pets with flea protection and on a leash are welcome. My dog is loose in the yard. Please be aware my dog is very protective and does not love other dogs or possibly even like them.
~ A regulation cornhole game is available. Please take care of it.
~ No smoking.
~ Please put all trash in bins. Feel free to use the trash bins in the alley behind the house.
~ No dumping or spilling is allowed here.
Happy and safe travels!
Carmel-by-the-Sea, CA; Austin, TX; upstate NY; Nashville, TN; Malibu, CA are a few of my favorites, but I love exploring new places and visiting familiar places. I have been to 47 states, but often don't have as much time to explore, meet people and see friends as I would like.
I grew up on the east coast, but I have lived in several places in southern CA. Once I experienced the great year-round weather, I never leave for too long!
Great shape, well cared for 22' L, apprx 10.5' H, no slideouts
Socalnysunshine was our first Boondocker... what a great way to start a new venture. She is kind & friendly; and has the sweetest little dog. So easy to share a curb with that when she asked to come back we said YES! No brainer. Definitely thumbs up to other hosts out there if you should receive a request from her.
My son and I were scheduled for a day of scuba diving out of Ventura Harbor, made a weekend of it, and this was the perfect place to boondock for the long weekend. The Host was awesome, with a warm welcome, great communication, and checked-in on us even though she was under the weather. Verizon cell signal was good and solar exposure was great for recharging our batteries. Thank you!
This is simply a spot in front of the BWs house in Oxnard. Nothing fancy but it felt safe and secure, We had a great chat together talking about travel and life.
I parked on the street in front of the house for two nights and had no issues. There is little noise from passing cars but it gets quiet at night. Two gyms and some stores in walking distance. I also had a brief and nice chat with the host and I felt welcomed. I would stay here again and thanks again for having me! :-)
We had street parking. It was great to know a resident and feel safe! She met was warmly!
socalnysunshine was very hospitable and quick to respond! I really appreciate the easy parking spot and recommendations.
She was delightful. I felt safe outside the house and that is a lot for me. I will definitely stay there again on my next trip out ❤️
We parked on the street for this one. We just needed a stopover, up and out early. It was very convenient. Thanks!
We are thankful, my wife Inez and I for getting acquainted with the host. She was most helpful and accommodating for us. We talked awhile and enjoyed her company. We used the street being that we were in and out. Felt safe. Area in the street was well lit. Look forward to coming back sometime. This was a big break for us as we escaped the inland empire Labor Day heatwave when it was roasting at 118. Oxnard is always on the cooler side so that’s why we chose this city. The beach there was refreshing and we were blessed.
excellent location with Superwalmart & Costco gas around town.
We had a lovely experience staying with this Host. They were very accommodating and greeted us with a smile. We had a great chat as we got settled in nicely. We parked on the street in our 26' TC. We felt safe and it was a very quiet neighborhood. Thank you for everything we will be back!
With great thanks,
~Jeana & Mark
We stayed on the street. Calm at night. Crissy was really helpful.
My stay was excellent and Chrissy is so nice. It was discovered we ironically share mutual acquaintances in the Midwest, which led to some nice chats. Close by to everything, including the beach! One of my favorite stays so far and plan to return in the future. :)
Simple street parking offered by a warm, very sweet, welcoming host.
We had a save and good night there. The host was very friendly and offered help and gave important information. Nice contact. Thank you! You made our stay great.
We really enjoyed our time with this lady! So friendly and helpful at every turn. And we just hit it off, getting to know each other. Hope to get by for another visit someday, Lord willing!
I used the street: not sure the yard would have been a problem for a B van, but it was occupied anyway. Nice quiet neighborhood. It was a perfect location for what I had scheduled.
The only problem was self-inflicted; I had a last minute schedule change with my appointment. Socalnysunshine was more than accommodating.
Her offer of "anything you need" was sincere, although I don't think boondocking really shouldn't include the host doing anything!
This is my first Boondockerswelcome stop and if they are all like this, I'll be on the road forever!
This was a perfect stopover for us for the night, located in the middle of Oxnard. Our host was delightful, very social and her dog was super-friendly! We parked on the street, which was not traffic-busy. It's a perfect place for an overnight stay.
Came at a time when sunshine was double booked. Host graciously offered the quiet street, and amenities if needed. Quietly slept on street and carried on our merry way.
Such a great, quiet stay! Had a wonderful conservation with the host, so much to do in the area. Would definately stay again!
Chrissy was wonderful! Her backyard was the perfect place to stop after a long day of traveling. It is a little tight so there's also street parking, but we were able to squeeze in and my pup loved having the backyard to stretch his legs. Might stay here again on our way back down the coast! Definitely recommend!
We were able to fit our small pop-up camper through the gate and past the wall into her back yard and everything was great. We enjoyed getting to know Chrissy and her cute puppy - thank you again!
Hi Boondockers Welcome friends. I enjoyed my 2 night stay at Chrissy's house. I was not quite (almost) able to get my RV (20 ft) backed into the driveway in her yard so I easily parked in front of her house and it was just fine. Chrissy and I had a very nice visit the day I arrived. The neighborhood was quiet and safe. I drove around it for 30 minutes to charge up my house battery one day and it's lovely with lots of different architecture, lots of cute white picket fences. Hope you enjoy your stay as much as I did. Thanks to Chrissy and her pup for welcoming me. Tammie
We only met briefly, but host was very friendly and interesting. The Oxnard/Ventura area can be difficult for boondocking, so we were happy to be welcomed here.
Chrissy was Very friendly. We could park our 23 ft RV in her backyard and get water and electra. Near to old town and beach. Loes fel in love with her cute little dog! :-)
Thanks for having us and maybe till next year. Johan and Loes
Beautiful beach 15 mins., appreciated the stay! Safe neighborhood.
We appreciated the flexibility and great communication when our arrival was delayed!
It was a brief but delightful stopover. There are two options for parking. The entrance to the back was a little too tight for our 22 foot class C, but the street parking in front of the house worked well - level and a quiet neighborhood. We may well do it again. Our host was welcoming and accommodating. She is welcome here any time.
A clean, well kept neighborhood. Food, shopping and motorhome size car wash nearby. Great place to stop and sleep. The weather was cool. We kept our windows open, all night, in summer.
We stayed at her place for one night and were glad, that we could arrive so late. Sunshine is very nice and helped us out a lot for our further journey to LA. Since our vehicle was too big, we stayed at the street, which was perfectly fine for one night.
We spent two nights in front of her house. It is a quiet area. She answers very quickly and is so welcoming. We had great time speaking together and my two little daughters will never forget this so funny real american Halloween we did in her neighborhood. Thanks for all, we appreciated the treat. Take care.
Our host was very welcoming and willing to move her rig so we could have power. Since it was only for 1 night we stayed by the curb in front of her house sans power. Perfectly nice area and not much traffic going by.
A good place to stay.
We were traveling south through California and were attempting to connect with friends in the Santa Barbara, but had been unable to confirm they were available. I asked socalnysunshine if we could stay at her place as a back up plan in case we were unable to connect with our friends, and she was more than willing to support us. As it turned out, our friends in Santa Barbara were available, so we were able to stay with them and we canceled on this host. We really do appreciate her flexibility and allowing us to use her as a back up plan. Thanks!
