We are Jerud and Ching (and our dog Tyki), and we've been on the road full-time since spring of 2015. Our home is a fifth-wheel that we rebuilt to be 100% solar-powered (we don't use propane or a generator).
We love the outdoors! Whether it's mountain biking, hiking, backpacking, paddling or rock climbing - we're up for it!
You can check us out on our website at www.LiveSmallRideFree.com.
We have a moderate selection of tools and know how to use them (we did rebuilt our whole RV, after all!)
Jerud can talk in depth about solar equipment and RV installations (he designed our rig's system).
Ching's background is in outdoor community outreach and is an avid photographer, and Jerud was a mechanical engineer.
Our dog's name is Tyki. He's a rescued blue heeler mix we got while we were still living in Asheville, NC. Tyki is about 7 years old.
We love spots that feel remote and isolated, but not too far from a town with a grocery store! Now that we've been full-timing for a few years, we like to travel slower than we did when we first got on the road.
We hit the road from Asheville, NC. Jerud grew up in Raleigh, North Carolina while Ching grew up in New York City and overseas.
Our fifth-wheel was originally a 25' Fleetwood Prowler. But we rebuilt it so that it's now 100% solar powered. Our home is outfitted with 1,220 watts of solar panels, has one slide, and shiny aluminum siding - which is how it got its name "the Toaster". Our rig is 25 ft. long (end to end), 8 ft. wide, and 12 ft. tall. Our tow vehicle is a Ford F250, supercab and long bed (20 ft. long).
