We live in a valley in Southeast Minnesota bluff country. We don't have an RV, but we live in the country and enjoy meeting other people in their travels.
We have free-range hens. If you have dogs, they need to be on a leash during your stay to ensure the safety of our girls. We also have a cat. Our big dog passed away in December.
We are 10 miles north of Houston, MN.
We loved our stay with this family. We were warmly welcomed and enjoyed the storytelling and the impromptu flute and violin concert. A beautiful SE MN canyon location with wild turkeys and deer.
What a beautiful location! Set in a valley with a very Welcoming host! We would definitely, return! Just 2 miles from their home, we saw 2 eagles!
What a blessing it was to spend a night on their beautiful property. I spent quite a bit of time chatting with the host which for me is rare, because I don’t want to intrude. But the whole experience was extremely comfortable.
The host was so kind and generous, not only with RV related resources but also gave my kids some science kits and extra tomatoes from her garden.
I hope to see them again down the road. Wonderful, generous family with a beautiful property. Flagship for the boondockers experience.
Boondockers Welcome Hosts are incredible.
Engineering1 were great people. Took the time for a chat on the poach with there kids. They were even interested in who I was, my travels and jobs.
Although we got a bit of rain, it helped to keep the heat at bay.
I would definitely like to stay again if I make my way to this area again.
A wonderful family of fine, friendly folks in a beautiful, country setting on a flower covered hillside with a nice, flat spot for my rig. It was a great base to ride my bicycle on the Root River State Trail, as there are trailheads nearby in Houston & Rushford.
I'd be pleased to stay here again.
This is our first time using Boondockers Welcome! What a great experience!
In fact, we spent much of our time talking to our hosts and their lovely children since we got here. Our son became fast friends with our hosts’ son who was happy to share his remote control car and sling shot with him. The kids collected some fresh eggs and our host shared them with us. She even gave us some green beans from her garden. Wow! How wonderful! I am actually so touched by their kindness that I couldn’t wait to write this review tonight.
We had a wonderful time with this host family, in particular because of how quickly the youngest in our families became fast friends. After a long road trip, the happiness factor in their running around and the idyllic and scenic views were highlights of the stay.
We had a tight time maneuvering into the space with the length of our RV, so experience in backing up well (once inside the property) is important. Once into the spot, everything was great!
Our hosts gifted us with excellent homemade sourdough bread, engaging conversation on the deck, bountiful culinary herbs, and fresh chicken eggs!
We enjoyed our time together!
I arrived a tad earlier than expected. The host came out and showed me where to get set up. The property is absolutely idyllic, with views of the surrounding hills, and more wildflowers than one could imagine. I watched the sun come up from my van's bedroom window, and the fog in the valley made the whole scene surrealistic.
I chatted with the hosts some and they invited me to join them for an evening meal. I accepted and had such a nice time talking with them. Afterwards I showed them my rig and we chatted a bit more before retiring for the night. Mary let me pick out eggs for my breakfast from the chicken coop. I just have three words: DE LISH OUS!
This is such a beautiful place to stay and the hosts were more than accommodating. If you are anywhere in the area and have a chance to stay here, do it. You won't be disappointed.
We just had a marvelous stay with this family. They are sweet and kind and generous-- we enjoyed a couple straight-from-the-chicken farm fresh eggs and fresh cut asparagus. Add to that an evening deck chat, 3 very interesting kids and a firefly show, and you've got the makings for a very pleasant overnight. Thank you all; we will be back next time we're on I-90!
Hosts are very nice. We enjoyed our stay. Beautiful scenery and could hear the owls.
Very thoughtful and generous Hostess who, along with her husband, work endlessly to keep this idyllic Prairie-Canyon property Native yet manageable and instructive:) The girls are bright and studious and son Joseph will keep an eye on helping you (while delivering a ready smile, fresh veggies & DE-LISH rice pudding).
Nutmeg is perhaps the largest Dog you'll ever meet - and does an EXCELLENT Job of protecting the chickens - but he needs more Guest Pets;~) Thank you M & J!
We loved our visit. Easy to find and warm welcoming family. Thanks
We had a great stay here. The family was very welcoming. A little tight manoeuvring to park our 36' 5th wheel but it was manageable. You could go slightly larger as well. Would highly recommend this place.
What a wonderful visit with Engineering 1 and family. Such a beautiful location with lots of walking trails and views of the neighboring hills (mountains). Awoke to chickens greeting the day and letting everyone know when they laid eggs! I was fortunate enough to be there when they had planned a Renaissance dinner. I learned “trenchers” are dinner plates made of baked bread and the food sits on top of the bread. There were no forks since they were not invented yet!. What a fun night with great food. I was also given fresh eggs before leaving. Their son was soooo helpful to me while setting up my rig and he also spent time with my little dog too! Such a nice and gracious family! Would love to stay here again if passing through the area!
This was our first Boondocking experience, and if all hosts are like these wonderful people, we made the right decision in joining! We were given a helpful packet of information on the area, which led us to biking the Root River Trail and delicious pie. We were sent on our way with special treats from their garden and home-made 18th century hot chocolate. Thank you!
These are spectacular hosts. They shared there beautiful land with us nestled in the bluffs between Winona and Rochester. A real treat!
We had a great time staying at this host’s home. It’s a beautiful and quiet setting. They were able to take us in last minute as we passed through the area. Our girls enjoyed the playground and playing with the chickens along with interacting with the host family’s kids. They also enjoyed catching fire flies when it got dark. There’s little to no light pollution, so it’s ideal for star gazing. Our daughter easily spotted the Milky Way. The host even shared some delicious rice pudding with us for breakfast. We are very appreciative of the warm hospitality we received from this family.
Engineering1 has a beautiful, quiet spot. The stars were amazing and their hospitality went far beyond what is expected. You will be blessed staying with them!
The hosts were lovely! We had good communication leading up to our arrival and no issues finding the place with GPS and their instructions. We enjoyed a hike around their beautiful property on mowed paths. And had a quiet peaceful night. Exactly what we needed!
Had an enjoyable visit with a very sweet family and big dog. They shared their WiFi , which was wonderful.
Lovely area in a rural valley
Wow, this couple have a very interesting range of experience and backgrounds. Great conversations and a place that was exceptionally quiet.
We thoroughly enjoyed our visit with engineering1. They were very accomadating. Their children and pets were very friendly and our boys enjoyed playing with them. I really loved walking their paths around the wildflowers. The camper spot was perfect.
This beautiful homestead is secluded in between several tall hills all around it, so the only traffic noise is an occasional car on the gravel road. Be aware that internet hotspots will not work back there, but the host has unsecured WI-FI available. Our Verizon phones were able to get weak, but usable signal. The hosts and their children we're very hospitable, and shared some red cherries off their tree. If you want peace and quiet, this location has it!
It was wonderful to stay with this lovely family, who made us feel so welcome.
They are very warm and generous people, with lovely children and a massive loveable dog.
Thanks again for everything! :-)
Sorry for our late post.
Thank you very much for your great welcoming ! You made us very comfortable.
You were very helpfull. The eggs and the asparagus were beautiful.
The kids were very happy to play with your kids.
Thanks a lot
The french family
Enjoyed meeting this family, their son helped me set up camp and I enjoyed that, as mine is grown. They gave me some fresh asparagus for dinner and a couple fresh eggs for breakfast. Highly recommend as hosts.
We stayed at this location for two nights. There is 15 amp service available on side of the house. Water is also available. We enjoyed talking with the family. They shared their apple crisp with us, it was delicious. The children are adorable, inquisitive and well behaved. The dog was funny.
Great friendly family! We enjoyed our stay and the landscape is beautiful! Our child enjoyed playing with the children and at the playground! Thanks again for your welcome! Florence, Jacques and Yaël
We stayed at their rural property in the Bluff Country of Southeastern Minnesota.
The site was just what we were looking for. The whole family was very hospitable and we came away with some eggs from their free range chickens.
