We are Lance and Dani, life partners and a couple of wandering souls exploring this country we've lived in, but never really seen. We are two writers who have paused our careers in order to go on an adventure around the US to see and do as much as we can in the next few months. We are learning all we can about sustainable living, micro farming, self reliance and just trying to catch a glimpse of the America most people don't see anymore.
We are not traditional RVers. We are travelling in our full-sized 1994 GMC van we've converted into a camper (named Charley after the titular canine in Steinbeck's "Travels with Charley"). Consequently we have a very small footprint and do not require any hookups or amenities whatsoever. We just periodically are looking for a place to park Charley overnight when we're not visiting friends, family or WWOOFing.
We are adventuring on a budget (hence converting a van instead of getting an RV) and several other travelers we've met recommended BoondockersWelcome.com as a nice, quiet alternative to truck stop/Wal-Mart parking lots. If anyone has a parking space they don't mind offering for single nights to a couple of quiet, yet silly, adventurers, we'd love to hear from you!
Logistics, Electrical Systems, Computing, Cooking, Eating, Baby Goat Exercising, Picture Taking, Witty Captions, and not taking things overly seriously.
It's all good! We're trying to go around most of the country in one trip! We prefer starlight and cricket choruses to neon lights and sounds from televisions and stereos:
1994 GMC Vandura; 3/4 ton, camper-converted full-sized van. Custom built kitchenette (plywood, 1x1, buckets and a Coleman stove, oh my!), custom two-seater internal hammock sleeping suspension system, "bleu" velour in all its glory. http://amblingfulltilt.com/charley-van/
An interesting and eclectic couple, taking the journey. Wish they could have stayed longer. I invited them to dinner and, as is my wont, I palmed off the cooking and cleanup on them. Ah bliss!
"Hoopy Frood" were wonderful guests. They were friendly, interesting and extremely grateful for the opportunity to stay at my place. I would recommend them as guests to any Boondockers Welcome host. Although I've stayed at many members' homes, Hoopy Frood were my first guests. I enjoyed meeting them and talking to them and truly wish they had more time to stay.
