Been camping and traveling (started with a tent, then two different trailers to a bunkhouse motor-home to a truck camper to our leisure van)for almost 40 years. Now that we have more time we are taking a few 6-8 week trips. We love the back country and take the blue highways when we are not in a hurry. We've been to a few big cities and are not excited to visit many more. We have children living all over east of the Mississippi and visit them as much as possible. We try to see all the natural wonders when we are in an area. We listen to a lot of books when traveling across on a major highway. We usually stay at State or Federal Parks. Our unit is very self-contained (even a solar panel). We even try for a tent site most of the time. We love the peace and quite.
I have been doing industrial water treatment all my professional life and now part time. I consider myself semi-retired. Sometimes I consider myself a Jack of all trades (actually I know just enough to get myself in trouble). My wife is a retired graphic artist, and then an office manager at a performing arts center. We now take multiple 6 week trips a year.
All of the United States and Canada. We still mostly would search out public lands, but if its unavailable we would definitely try Boondockers Welcome.
Our home town is Jacksonport, WI (beautiful Door County). We live in the middle of the back 40 of my wife's 3rd generation dairy farm. We didn't offer our home for a boondocking location for a couple reasons. First we are gone so much and second our home is not on the way to anywhere(we live on a peninsula). It would be more of a destination and I am not sure that's the purpose of Boondockers Welcome.
