Mike and Cookie love independent living. We live on 108 acres of forest land between Portland Oregon and Salem Oregon. We are private individuals who love nature and our kids. We are not opposed to city life, but prefer the country, especially for just living.
Cookie's specialty is outdoor education for kids. She has taught various classes in using and cooking with wild edibles, along with public education for 18 years. Mike has grown up in the timber industry. He is an amazing steward of the forest. He is a true woodsman with a conscious. He loves to fish and hunt. We both love to cook, especially healthy cooking. At least we try. Mike can tell you the value or health of your timber.
We drive a duelly 2004 ford 3500 pick-up and carry a 2003 artic fox camper. It has one slide out. We are the only owners of each of them.
Sherry and I stayed at Cookie and Mike's mountain top property for 3 night in late September. The area is gorgeous and the hosts are the best. We were offered harvested fair from their garden and mushrooms from their recent gathering outing. Both were welcome additions to our meals. The 3/4 mile driveway is worth the effort to be hosted by Cookie & Mike and enjoy a bit of their envious life style and surroundings. Follow Sherry and I on Facebook at Roving Fox. P&S
We had a wonderful experience staying with Cookie and Mike. They were extremely helpful and accommodating. They have a beautiful property with a private site for our rig overlooking the mountains. We were a tad nervous after reading the reviews on their long driveway but we had absolutely no problems maneuvering our rig. They're within an hour from Portland and the Columbia River Gorge. We were able to hike the Gorge and Silver Falls State Park where we saw numerous incredible waterfalls. Cookie even spent a morning with us picking fresh vegetables from her garden to give to us before we left. (Quite honestly, they were the best tomatoes we ever tasted) It was a pleasure getting to know the two of them. We will absolutely be visiting the area again and will be sure to reach out to them.
We stayed at this serene mountain-top site for three days. Their 3/4 mile driveway might be a little disconcerting for some but we managed to squeeze our 33' wide-body fifth wheel through with no problem. There is a circle drive around one of their gardens near their house and we ended up parking on that drive. The radius around the garden was a little tight but we were able to pull out the morning we left -- easier than I thought it was gonna' be. Our hosts invited us to Happy Hour on their deck overlooking this vast valley with a view to the coastal mountains and even Mount Hood. They have chickens and lots of gardens -- heat with wood -- straight outta' Mother Earth News though their 'cabin' and decks are much nicer than most 'Earthers' ever get around to building. The hosts have lived there for 35 years and know a lot about the local flora and fauna . . . wild plants which are edible, etc. It was a nice drive to Molalla to get our internet fix at Les Schwab. We were actually able to sit in our truck right next to the window wall facing the street (in the shade) and have great net access . . . nobody seemed to mind . . . we explained initially that we're customers -- just more comfortable to sit in the truck :o) If you're towing and only have 2WD -- and you're able -- you might want to walk their driveway just to know what to expect. It's not that tough to get up there and the view once on top is certainly well worth it. We definitely plan to come back here again and again -- if they'll have us! :o) JIM & ANNIE
Stayed with Cookie & Mike for 3 nights on their beautiful mountain top. They couldn't be more gracious or welcoming and made us feel completely at home. We really enjoyed our stay & getting to know them was a treat. Thank you again Cookie & Mike. We hope to meet you again some day. It was a very pleasant experience.
