Hi! We're Rick & Julie - a friendly Australian couple in our fifties who love being in the "great outdoors"

An ex-Scout leader, Rick (assisted by Julie) led several 4WD Scout Expeditions across the Simpson Desert and up to the tip of Cape York in Australia. This adventurous travel birthed in us a dream to explore the world.
With children still in school our wings remained clipped for a time.
Five years ago we purchased our 4WD camper, and as our children grew we began to travel for increasingly extended periods of time throughout the Australian bush and desert areas.
All of the children are now adults, and so the global adventure can begin!
Our camper has been shipped to Long Beach, California and from there we plan to spend the next two years exploring the western USA and Canada.
With family and friends at home, there will be trips back to Brisbane from time to time. This means that our time in North America is not unlimited, but we plan to make the most of what we have!
We hope to meet many friendly Americans and Canadians who are willing to give us a taste of what their countries have to offer.
Our "EarthCruiser" camper is all white, and so we have dubbed him "The Cockatoo" - or "The Cocky" for short - and he has been suitably attired to reflect his name. His travelling livery is quite distinctive, so if you see us out and about, come over and say "Gidday"!

Favorite Boondocking Locations

National parks, State forests - basically anywhere away from busy cities are our favourite destinations. Though history and culture are often found in cities, so we do venture into them from time to time!

The Brake-aways's Hometown

Home is in the outer suburbs of Brisbane, in the sub-tropical area of Queensland, Australia.

The Brake-aways's Rig

Our rig is a small 4x4 EarthCruiser purchased in 2010 that has stood us in good stead throughout our last 5 years of travel in Australia. We have given him a name - The Cockatoo ("Cocky) - and some new livery for our overseas travels.
