I thoroughly enjoyed my pleasant, albeit short, stay with the Nelsons. After an enjoyable tour of their two-acre property, they invited me on their cozy porch with a blazing woodstove that kept us comfortable as we toasted each other with a nice cold Sauvignon Blanc wine from New Zealand and chatted away about our personal stories--always a pleasure for me. I heartily recommend staying with the Nelsons, and am certain that I shall return there in the near future.
We had a wonderful and peaceful nights stay. The sunset and views were incredible. Lots of room to roam for the kids, would definitely stay here again.
Our hosts welcomed us like we were family. The parking site is easy to pull into and water and electricity were available. B and B are perfect ambassadors for Boondockers.com.
We had a delightful stay at “Nelson State Park”. Bob has a level parking space set up for RVers with electricity available. Our host greeted us when we arrived and gave us a friendly tour of his property.
The view of the snow covered mountains to the east and the valley below was amazing.
This is actually my third stay here. Wonderful hospitality as usual. Thanks so much!!
This is my second time here. As before, this stay was very enjoyable. We were able to have some limited visiting with social distancing and masks.
Thanks for the hospitality.
We loved our short stay here. They have a dedicated pull-through spot that's really well set up. You can see they've put a lot of effort into making it nice for their guests.
Hope we get a chance to stay there again.
Our overnight stay was wonderful. We were provided with directions that were spot on. Beautiful sunset and went to sleep with horses grazing across the street. This is a definite recommendation to stop here. Socially distanced visiting with our host was great!
bobnelson has such a wonderful location, the drive in from the Interstate is beautiful! Easy to find with wonderful accommodations near a nice little town. Being retired U. S. Navy, the host had a common bond with us as we are also retired Navy. We used the electric hookup. Water was available but we didn’t need it. I believe wifi was available too, but my T-Mobile signal was adequate to stream online television so we didn’t need it either. Host gave a tour of their property and we learned a few new things about RV’ing from our conversations. We didn’t meet Bea(trice), their doggie, but Bambi (the neighbor’s cat that hangs out here) made herself at home, even coming into the trailer when invited. She was a friendly kitty. We would love to spend more time here if we find ourselves in the area again.
I was treated to dinner and wine after Bob assisted me in setting up my rig. I was treated like family. Thanks bobnelson!
Great site, wonderful hospitality (for which we are grateful). Couldn't ask for better. The owners are dedicated RVers and understand the need to decompress after a long day on the road. We look forward to seeing them again.
We didn't get to meet our hosts since they were out of town, but they were kind enough to let us stay anyway. The location is BEAUTIFUL, we couldn't believe it when we woke up in the morning with the sunlight coming over the mountains. Perfect first stop in Oregon :)
B and B are wonderful! They invited me to join them for a hamburger supper (guaranteed to be zero calorie burgers - yay). We visited until bedtime.
After supper I gave a demonstration on home roasting coffee. I think I hooked their granddaughter, C, on this hobby. Two batches were roasted and the results packed into a special coffee bag to savor after I depart.
The next morning, I gave a demo on how I use an Aeropress to brew coffee. We all enjoyed a cuppa before everyone left for various destinations.
Thanks for the wonderful hospitality! I hope to visit again someday.
We arrived as strangers but within 5 minutes of meeting our hosts felt like friends. It was pretty obvious from the response to our stay request and the first phone call that our hosts were going to be fun people. We were welcomed and spent a short time getting to know each other. They made sure we knew where everything we needed was and left us to set up with an invitation to come back later to enjoy some talk around the fire. We thoroughly enjoyed getting to know them and relaxing at their peaceful, beautiful property. This was only our second BW stay but it is going to be hard to beat. We'd love to visit them again next time we are in the area (or meet up somewhere on the road).
What can I say about Bob & Betsy, they are great people. Betsy was gracious enough to make us some amazing home cooked meals. Betsy loves white wines from New Zealand & Bob enjoys wine and beer. They were some of the most amazing host we have ever had. They made us feel like family and after we worked during the day we spent the evenings with them sitting around a campfire with some drinks and great conversation. We work remotely in our RV and we were able to get a lot of work done during the day in such a quiet and relaxing environment. The property is beautiful with amazing views of mountains and the valley. We are already looking forward to seeing them next time we are in the area!
Difficult to exceed others’ very positive reviews of not only the accommodations but more so the hospitality offered by the hosts. They make it so easy to feel totally comfortable d at home. I have absolutely no reservations about recommending them as top-notch hosts.
Thank you for the opportunity to stay in your paradise. Your hospitality was very much appreciated. I would love to come back if we ever get back in the area. Loved spending time with Bob and Betsy their location and boondocking area is perfect. Thanks so much my new friends. Safe travels.
Thanks guys! Host were super friendly and extremely accommodating! Invited us in for wine and a great chat on their back porch. Nelson State Park is obviously well cared for 😂!
The hosts treated us and our dog like beloved family from the moment we met them and by the end of our 3-night stay, we didn't want to leave and felt like we gained lifelong friends. Their place was amazing and we found ourselves calling it home when we were out sightseeing. They are the epitome of perfect boondockers hosts, exceeding our wildest expectations! Their 2-acre "park" was outstanding for great views, headquarters for exploring Hell's Canyon and the
Interpretive center, and enjoying the beautiful nature including the neighborhood outside cat that befriended us. If you have the opportunity to stay with these folks, we highly recommend it!
Bob and Betsy are fantastic and generous hosts.
Very much enjoyed their company. A great setup for visiting RV's. Beautiful views.
Would love to get back there sometime.
You will never meet kinder, more inviting people than Bob and Betsy! We had a lovely time sitting around the fire and having a glass of wine with them... and we hope to do it again soon! Their place is peaceful and wonderful as well :) thanks for a great stop and electrical hook-up!
Bob and Betsy are the best hosts you can imagine, and their dog's not so bad either. We had a fantastic stay here, the site was perfect (easy parking, beautiful views, picnic table, fire ring, and a lovely yard available for use) and Bob and Betsy provided a lot of useful local information. Hop we can get back to stay here again!
So much more than I expected. Friendly, opened their house to me . Long pull through with power and Bob went out of his way to pull hoses for me to fill up with water before I left. My first Boondockers.com and it was wonderful. My thanks to the N..
for their hospitality.
Bob, Betsy and Violet the wonder dog…
Thanks you for providing me with a fantastic boondocking experience. Soon after arriving I was parked, set up and hooked up in record time… I really appreciate all the consideration both of you showed me, you are very giving family… Your property truly is a park, and it shows many years of TLC and I’m glad I was able to experience it. A bonus for me is your hillside location that gave me a panoramic view of the night sky to enjoy my telescope… Another special treat were the dinners and conversations we shared. In our short time together all three of you became very special to me.
Thanks also for allowing me to extend my stay so I could take the AF plant tour. When I come this way again I’ll definitely give you a call.
I can’t overstate how positive our experience was at the Nelson’s. Their property on the eastern side of the Wallowas is breathtakingly beautiful. They have outfitted their space to be graciously accommodating to those of us visiting their property — complete with electricity on a level space with views in every direction. They were generous, informative, and friendly hosts. I hope we can remain in touch and return the favor of their hospitality.
Bob and Betsy are absolutely two of my favorite people! Violet is amazing! This is a little piece of heaven. The parking and hospitality are exemplary.
The spot is a little piece of heaven on earth. Everything has been taken care of. The garden is beautiful, the view is beautiful and the host very funny!! Thank you for a wonderful stay.
Betsy, Bob and Violet always hit a warm and friendly 'home-run' out of their lovely "Nelson State Park"!
Thank you for another great visit to 'NSP' in Cove, OR! Susie and Doyle Hughes
There are not enough wonderful adjectives in our vocabulary to describe this stay. Our hosts were so friendly and welcoming and made us feel right at home. And such a beautiful spot!! Our one regret was that we could not stay longer. We highly recommend this stay.
I cannot tell how much we loved to stay at bobnelson's place. We were received like family, had a great night and the kids really enjoyed the company of their lovely dog.
Bobnelson were just what we needed. Our front brakes had to be unexpectedly replaced. We'd been towed to Baker City on Monday morning - finally got brakes fixed by 4pm. We're not a fan of state parks and we were hot and tired - not sure where to go. On a whim, I emailed Bob and he called back almost immediately. We were only an hour away. Their property is beautiful - they invited us in and treated us like family. Even shared dinner and non-stop conversation. Thank you!

Bobnelson are fellow RV'ers so they know just what is needed; great instructions, flexibility and such warm hospitality! They let me ask 1000 questions about their area, the history and they gave me wonderful beef tacos! Great discussion and a wonderful young woman (their granddaughter) made this a memorable stop. The spot where they live is special too; a great view, lots of critters (wild and domestic) and a nice neighborhood. I would love to come back and stay longer but I was within kissing distance of seeing my son so I had to move along!
Hope they come visit NY!
Thank you, Nelsons! We had a most wonderful time in June this year! All your efforts to provide for a lovely stay was met and surpassed! Many Thanks, Doyle and Susie Hughes
Wow what a great experience, gave a LOT more than just a gravel lot to park beef stew, apple pie and great friendship. Oh ya I guess I'm not suppose to tell you about the stew and pie. Don't be put off by the short drive off the hyway, the view at night alone is worth it. The only downside was we didn't have enough time to stay long but there is always the return trip home from the Baja right? Thanks again Bob and Betsy
Was unable to stay because he already had so many staying. But was great at communicating, especially as he checked for extra space. Thanks
Bob and Betsy are the friends you've always had but never met! WOW all I can say is they are amazing. Had a blast at dinner with some beers and as Bob would say, swapping lies and telling stories. They also brought water and 50 amps right to the rig. Their pup violet is amazing too! We came as strangers and left as friends. Truly great host!
We stopped for one evening on our southbound journey to Mexico and we will definitely be stopping by again. What a wonderful host couple... and so organized !!! Shelley was taking photos of Bob's camping gear and workshop to post inside my shop just to keep me motivated on how it should/could be done. We had a lovely evening. Thank you.
We only stopped for a night, but ended up staying two nights because our truck needed some repairs. I'm only mildly mechanical, so with Bob's lead and tools, we found the problem but weren't able to fix it because the issue was a bit advanced for both of us. He recommended a local mechanic and the truck was fixed the next day. Thanks, Bob!!
The evenings were cool and pleasant, and so was the company of Bob and Betsy, sharing stories of our RV adventures, mishaps, and good times. We'd love to see them again when we pass back through the area.
And then there's Violet. Violet is a dog. Violet is a big, happy dog. My kids love Violet. Violet loves my kids. You'll remember one another fondly. :)
Thank you - "B,B,V&PC" for a great stay! Very welcoming, informative, & supportive, great RV site, easy in and out, loving golden-doodle, very well behaved - "Pet Coyote", Our very first Boondock Welcome experience and they set the 'hosting bar' very very high! Love you guys !! D&S, DPS Life Members
Bob and Betsy were wonderful hosts. The are a bit off the beaten path (I-84) however, it's worth the drive. Lovely, quiet rural, scenic spot with electricity and water. Had a lot of fun talking over a delightful dinner. Got to meet sweet Violet Labradoodle and her friend, a visiting inspiring dog, Bell. It was the highlight of my week and I'll surely make my way back any time I'm in the area to reconnect. Highly recommend!
Warm welcome, delicious dinner, beautiful and shaded parking space, electricity, laughter, and friendship.
Bob and Betsy are wonderful people, and made us feel at home and part of the family immediately.
On our next trip to Montana, we will make it a point to travel this direction again, just to reconnect.
Thank you for hosting us and becoming our friends!
We had a scare last fall while doing volunteer work in a high fire danger area in Oregon. There were several fires near us and the smoke got so bad we had to stay inside for five days. The AQI reading was at 358. I started looking for places we might go if we had to evacuate and I found bobnelson. He was just east of us but out of the danger zone. So I contacted him and informed him of our situation. He promptly responded letting us know that we would be more than welcome to stay at his location if needed, for however long we needed. I found bobnelson sincere and very welcoming in that difficult situation. It greatly helped to lower our stress level. We only hope we can some day stop by and thank him personally.
