Caring for and valuing things is an ingrained way of life for me. I take care of my things, and I will take care your things. My path to college was through the GI Bill, and I was able to travel extensively in Europe while in the military. I've always been an explorer and have always preferred traveling "close to the ground." In Europe, the hostel system was relatively inexpensive, but the greatest benefit was the opportunity to connect with people. I find that hotels have their place in traveling, but I find them to be sterile. I always prefer sleeping on the bed in my vehicle if possible. I once slept on a mountain top and watched two different lightning storms roll by at a distance of 40ish miles; those kinds of experiences never happen in a hotel room. The best way to wrap up this surprise bio. (I didn't realize this was part of signing up) is to say that I value experience above all else. If I am your guest, I will respect your property and your space. I have been a public school teacher for 25 years.
This is impossible to list. I might fix a chainsaw in the morning and quote Shakespeare in the evening. I installed the skylight in my bathroom. I have a bikeshop in my basement. I've found and fixed shorted wires on my car's engine. I'm a do it yourself kind of guy and YouTube has extended that attitude to just about everything in the past couple of years. I have an oxy-acetylene welding set-up, but I don't know how to use it ...yet. I'm a pretty solid climber, mountaineer, and participant in a wide variety of sports. I know guns, boats- paddle, motor, and sail. I know fishing; although, I'm not the best at it. This week I learned how to disassemble and clean my air conditioner. This coming week, I'll learn how to make a YouTube video with the help of some audio and lighting equipment I bought. I've been cutting my own hair since I was in the army.
Another realm of "skill" is "fitting in." There is nowhere where I don't fit in. Whether some of the worst neighborhoods of southside Chicago, or millionaire parties in Manhattan, I fit in. I know who Walter Payton was, and I know how to wear French cuffs. I can speak intelligently about almost anything and if I can't, I have no problem admitting it. In my opinion, being an explorer isn't just about going places. Exploring is also about exploring ideas, learning about the world, life, etc. My newest interest- managing taxes in retirement. Most importantly, I treat people like people, and that is all anybody ever wants.
I don't have any pets.
Got to spend some time chatting with my host about all kinds of topics! Turns out that we have quite a bit in common. My host was very gracious and hospitable, which I greatly appreciate! I am on am currently doing a long ride along the East Coast and sleep in my RV at night, and this trip wouldn't be possible without the generosity of people like my host!
We had a great night at Hilltop Proscenium. Sirocco was friendly and welcoming. He invited us into the back yard for a fantastic view, and we were able to watch the moon rise over the hilltop. Great conversation and a nice neighborhood. We would definitely recommend this boondocking location!
Easy to get to, perfect for visiting my mom. Maggie enjoyed running around the backyard!! I’ll be back!
While there we enjoyed a great sunset. Sirocco even brought us coffee and we enjoyed the morning making a new friend. Thank you for the wonderful place and even better company.
I've been a host and guest both for four years and told Sirocco about BW. He's a perfect fit! Even though we live in the same state, I have rarely been up his way until recently and found it beautiful. Looking forward to returning in August!
