We retired a few years ago and enjoy travel and caring for our home and acreage. My spouse is a visual artist specializing in watercolors and particularly enjoys painting landscapes.
We enjoy sharing travel experiences as well as learning about travel adventures from others.
We have two very friendly Golden Retrievers that often travel with us.
Our mailing address is Friendsville, MD, and live within one mile of PA and four miles from WV.
We have a class B camper and sometimes pull a pop up Aliner behind it - the class B is 24 ft and the pop up is 16 ft.
Respectful campers and and are more than welcome to stay when in the area.
It was very pleasant and the host are so nice. Parking is easy, not level for us (26' C) but not bad. Road in isn't bad. Bring tennis balls for Rex, you'll love him. Hope to stay again in the future.
Great stay in a very peaceful and quiet meadow.
Despite the pouring rain, our host plus grandson came out to greet us and show us the options to park.
Had a very nice chat with both host and hostess in the morning.
If we had know how serene the location truly is, we would have planned for a second night.
But, there is always a next time!
Safe travels B&S!
What a perfect introduction to Boondocking! We’ve never done it before and we are hooked thanks to you two!
Bill and Susan are wonderful hosts. Visiting with them at their mountainside retreat was like catching up with old friends. It was both restful and energizing. And the meadow camp site is a ringside seat for a magical firefly performance and a starlit night sky.
Out 1st time using Boondockers Welcome could not have been more "storybook." It could be turned into a commercial. Our hosts went out of their way to be sure we understood how to find the turn-off so we didn't miss their entrance and even met us there to guide us in and level (knowing we were newbies.). Then we were invited for a tour of their awesome hunting lodge-style home, where we were fascinated by the history of the area and the home, enjoying a beer with them. They encouraged us to tour Frank Lloyd Wright's Falling Waters nearby which is a "not to miss" event. We enjoyed their occasional visits while walking their beautiful retrievers and also meeting our fellow RV neighbors who were camping in the meadow with us. We hiked along a babbling brook to a lake and enjoyed a plethora of lightning bugs each night under very starry skies which we rarely see in the city. Our hosts and our neighbors gave us a ton of tips and RV hacks we'd not heard of, continuing to confirm the value of using Boondockers Welcome.
A very lovely, welcoming couple on a beautiful, relaxing, private location.
The stars at night were a delight to view.
Thank you both for hosting us!
We will be back to enjoy your piece of heaven again!
The host greeted us at the driveway and showed us where to park. We were given a tour of their one-of-a-kind house. These hosts love people and it shows in their friendliness and generosity. They live appropriately by Friendsville, MD.
Mountainside of MD are delightful hosts as well as inspiring people. They live their values on this unique and serene property. We biked down to the end of the road and took our paddle boards out one day, went and played at Ohiopyle climbing and biking the next. The kids loved fishing in the stream. Excellent stop, highly recommend!
The location is easy to get to from the expressway. Cute historic town nearby. The area is so clean and quiet and fresh. I love the mountain water and chirpy birds. I slept with the windows open so I could enjoy the sounds and smells.
I could gush about the hosts, but I'll leave something for the next boondocker to discover. Ok, never mind. I will gush. They are wonderful!
Highly recommend this location. I will need to return to explore the area. I was just passing through this time.
Our host and hostess went above and beyond; taking us on a tour of their beautiful house and grounds and introducing us to their family. After a medical emergency hit us, they were extremely gracious and concerned…allowing us to extend our stay until well enough to travel. They deserve the Silver Star of BW!
The mountain side folks were a pleasure to meet and get to know. Extremely inspiring humans along with their phenomenal property. Artistic intelligent and kind. Can’t say enough good things. It was a very heartwarming stay. Can’t wait to come back and visit. Thanks So much for allowing me into your beautiful sanctuary.
One of the loveliest locations anyone could desire. Though no electric, it is a cool site and we managed perfectly. Hosts are the best!! This was our second visit here and enjoyed the expansive green shaded site. Solid ground and easy to pull in. Spending time with the hosts is the best part!!!
Hosts are very friendly. Spot is quiet and comfortable. We had a great night.
Hosts were extremely friendly and helpful. Campsite was quiet, private, and picturesque. I hope these folks will stay with us sometime
This is hands down one of our favorite boondocking locations. The hosts are welcoming, warm and gracious. And we have paid for access to locations such as these. A must stay if you’re in the area.
This host's place is nothing short of amazing.
Who cares about dry camping when you're in a quiet, picturesque place all to yourselves?
To top it off our host gave us a private tour of their amazing home. We've paid money to see less spectacular places!
Warm and welcoming these folks have it going on, we wish them all the best.
Beautiful hilly meadow, parked under 2 huge pine trees. Hosts walked down to meet me and talk for a few minutes. Great folks! I would definitely stay here again!
Words can hardly describe this wonderful couple and beautiful is the BW site they host! They were very gracious helping us get settled on the site. Even gave us a walking tour with some history of the house, land and area😁. It was a cold night and they were concerned if we would be warm enough. Absolutely could not have asked for a better experience! Highest recommendation and definitely added to my favorite BW sites.
Beautiful property. Very friendly and helpful hosts. We enjoyed our stay very much. Most highly recommend!
This host was wonderful! Access is easy and the beauty that surrounds you appeals to every sense! Plenty of room in their meadow and their property is truly unique. It was a totally relaxing experience! Thank you!
Beautiful rural retreat in western Maryland mountains. Host were super welcoming and gracious with their time. We enjoyed our conversations and time together. Would definitely recommend!!
Beautiful home in the countryside, beautiful Meadow to Boondock in. Lots of room for the dogs to run.
What a great spot! The road to Mountainside of Maryland was a bit tight for our Fleetwood Bounder but with Bill’s help We didn’t have any issues. We had a wide open field to set up and our dogs loved the chance to run free. Although we only spent one night and we didn’t have the opportunity to talk at length we did have several short conversations about our trips and some general conversation. The hosts we great to interact with. When you get there take the Time to view the exterior of the home. The back ground on the home is very interesting. To top it off the star gazing was amazing.
We just needed some downtime with a quick overnight stay after a full day of traveling. Our host was so kind and helpful setting us up in the perfect spot for some peaceful rejuvenation and a comfortable nights sleep. Thank you!!!
Our stay at Woodside Retreat was excellent. The hosts went above and beyond to make our stay accommodating and enjoyable. Both host were extremely friendly and we really enjoyed our time visiting with them and sharing travel experiences and ideas. We loved how quiet and peaceful it was on the entire property....it made for a very peaceful nights sleep. It’s a beautiful area to explore if you so desire. If not, Woodside Retreat is also just a great place to relax. We would stop here again for sure, if in the area, and plan on keeping in touch with the host as they, and their son, were such friendly, and gracious people.
Words can’t express the architecture of the host home. What a delight to be given a tour shortly after a warm greeting at the gate to a meadow for parking on a nearly level grassy site in the shade of a large evergreen tree. The walk along a shaded lane by a covered bridge and up a hill to the host house was enhanced by a running commentary of local history. The evening was capped off on the deck with exchange of ideas on many topics interspersed with cheese and crackers and sips of Chardonnay. The hostess is a pro at watercolors which are a delight. Next year will try 2 days to explore this area.
A wonderful place to enjoy a peaceful & quiet night. The hosts were warm and hospitable. We took a walk to the reservoir in the early morning hearing the birds sing an the sound of the bubbling Mill Stream.
This was my first stay using my Boondockers Welcome membership. And I was the first guest for this host too. It was a great introduction to this organization. MountainsideOfMaryland were Great hosts and treated me like an old friend. They met me down at their mailbox, even though their directions made it easy to find. Showed me a couple of places to park my RV and invited me up to their home for a beverage and a very pleasant conversation about travel and RVing and their home which is eclectic and lovely. I parked down by the garden and had a few very quiet evenings. Saw them both mornings and we talked about their garden and the beautiful area they live in. This is definitely a place I would like to return to again especially in the fall, this place would be gorgeous.
Practical matters. Very strong signal from Verizon which surprised me do to the remoteness of the area. The roads to the location would be more fun in a Miata than a motorhome but I had no problem in my 25ft class C, just take it slow there are a number of working farms on the way. There is a COE campground (no hook ups) not far down the road from their place that has a dump station and potable water.
