O’Brien Tire & Auto Care is the longest runnning auto repair on Rt 66, over 90 years. Family owned. We RV too, (30 yrs now) so we know RV tires. Glad to help you with tire issues while traveling. It is important to have your tire health checked routinely. We are a trusted source, with EXPERT tire techs—unlike “big box” chains, ahem!! After all we’ve been doing it LONGER than anyone else!!! Tires are the most important yet neglected part of an RV because it’s a hassle to find a store you can trust while on the road. We assume no news is good news, so until a tire misbehaves... all is good, right? And of course you look at them and check psi, but there’s much more to having healthy tires. We recommend to check wear frequently, and rotates, but we can also do balance beads, extended stems, repairs, or install new tires. Whatever you need. If you’re buying new tires, same day or next day options, so go enjoy the sites of St Louis. We have a large parking lot for boondocking. Great location near St Louis for the day too. Don’t need tire help, that’s OK! (but always a good idea to have the “things” your life is riding on inspected often.)
Expert in tires, tires, tires-all sizes, types and all brands. We can talk all day about them (oh, we do). Why one tire brand is better than another for your situation.
Kids and money (ours)
We use to breed, board, compete with horses, but age takes that silliness out of you. Still own 18 acres with house & barn if anyone’s interested ;) We now have our last furry friend, a 14 yr Schnauzer adopted way back when, that has good days and sometimes bad. He’s been everywhere RVing and gets very excited when the RV trip packing begins.
Anywhere we are not at work!! We love everywhere we go. Our favorite memory however, is a very late night driving in pitch black in some southwest area that had no lights on the interstate, no light pollution, and just being dog tired. Found this little non-descript roadside pull off because I couldn’t drive any more. The kids were sleeping. We went outside and saw stars we felt we could’ve just grabbed from heaven. When we woke the next morning to the sound of the kids playing outside, completely alone, we found them and the dog climbing a small mountain and giddy with joy to be doing it. We had no idea what was there when we pulled in, it was that dark. That’s what RVing is all about-finding that connection with nature in your own little slice of heaven no matter the age. The kids are now grown and their kids love RVing just as much.
We live in Granite City now, just 2 miles from the store. We both grew up here, moved to acreage when we got married to give all our hard earned money away to horsin’ around. Now we are serious about saving for retirement and eventually full timing in our DRV, spending the kids’ inheritance. We are together 24 hours, either when running the store or at home. You will most likely see us both when you’re here. We have been a family owned store for over 90 years. We live here, shop here, and support our local non-franchised retail stores. It matters. Please Support Small Business USA whenever you can while traveling. I think RVers are really good at that anyway ;)
The host description was spot on and they were clear about some of the less desirable parts which was not a deterant for us. The road was busy and the bar had a moment or two even for a week night.
We needed a two day stay to pick up a passenger from the airport. We were couple 40ft skoolies with tow'ds traveling to an event together. This place worked great for us.
The little park and grassy lot was easy to walk the dog and the bar had great food(we did take out).
I felt comfortable leaving the rig in our tow'd to run a few errands.
We had pleasant interactions as we checked in and out with the receptionist, no other interactions with staff or customers.
I would highly recommend this convenient layover.
We didn't get to meet the host as we arrived after they closed but the location was nice. Easy in and out with least access to stores. Needed a fuel filter and the NAPA store on the other side of the overpass was a quick walk and hooked us up. The only downside was the loud motorcycles late at night but it was a Friday and they only woke me up, the rest of the family sleep through them
We responded favorably a year ago in September, 2020.
This location is at a busy intersection that was noisy till around midnight, BUT there is a large park with a playground right outside your door, a great grocery store across the street, and so many conveniences in walking distance. Our small kids loved running in the grass and swinging and having dinner at the picnic tables. It was better than dry camping at a campground! There was a lot of typical bar noise and we got a little worried when we heard someone smash a bottle, but no one ever left the bar parking lot. The park, walkability of the area, and view of the sunset more than made up for the noise and we had a wonderful experience. As other reviewers noted, bring your ear plugs if you’re sensitive to noise!
Although we did not meet the Host, the location was as promised and he responded quickly via Txt. He mentioned in our confirmation the near by bar may create some noise.
We spent two nights. On Monday, as the sun set till well after 11, very loud cars and motorcycles came out and it sounded as though they were racing down the roads. Thinking this might have been a bad night, we stayed Tuesday night, I would sadly say it was worse.. It also made "us" feel uncomfortable hearing rowdy voices near by.
The space is large and across the street is a park with covered area and tables for a picnic and playground equipment for children.
It was a quiet neighborhood with the exception of a couple of guys with their Harleys on the main road. Not a problem at all.
Got in late and parked at OBrien’s in the gravel area. Was perfect for an overnight stopover.
Ideal location, with easy access. Owner came by (even though the business was closed on Memorial Day weekend!) to see how I was doing; made a great first impression.
Nice flat spot and the owners communicated very well. The spot is located next to a park, loud roads, and a busy bar the nights I stayed. I strongly suggest earplugs. Thank you for your kindness!
We had a wonderful 2 day stay in St. Louis. Our stay here was very comfortable and safe. Level place to park. Easy access to St. Louis.
Close to St.Louis for a quick ride over to Gateway arch. Normal in town noise at night and we felt safe.
Thank you for allowing me to schedule and reschedule... we ended up driving to your site, unhooking our toad, and then realizing we had a dead car battery (again). Since this was on a Saturday evening, we went ahead and drive the additional 3 hours home so we could get it fixed at home. You are a quick jump to the St. Louis Arch and so many amenities nearby - great stop for folks wanting to see St. Louis!
Clean and nearby to St. Louis sites. The host was friendly and provided clear and easy to follow instructions for where to set up. Easily parked our 40ft fifth wheel.
Definitely check out Gateway Arch National Park, toasted raviolis and gooey butter cake while in town!
Would definitely stay again!
Perfect spot to stay for a night. The host was very informative on where to park so that we didn’t need to unhitch our vehicle. Thank you for allowing us to stay!
TireGuy1932 was not there but staff helped us. Another camper had just arrived 5 minutes before us and had put their truck in our spot. All good. We were sent email that it would be easier to approach on Amos Ave rather than thru parking lot. We tow a 36' 5th wheel so we ended facing the spot we needed to back into. Had to pull into parking lot, back out onto grass across road then pull out onto Amos and back into spot. So if you are a longer 5th wheel, it would be easier coming in from the parking lot off of Nameoki if you can. Was nice to have electricity as it was damp and cold out.
Perfect spot to park for easy drive to see Gateway Arch, NP. Beware road that runs along the river side of park is closed. We parked at a meter on Lumiere Place Blvd. We returned to our truck at 6pm and a couple with a Trailer and Land rover had their window broken on the Land Rover. Just beware.
O’Brien Tire was the perfect stop for us to spend the night before exploring St. Louis the next day. It’s close to the city and easy to get to. Thank you for hosting us!
We were travelling through St. Louis and needed a spot to park our 5th wheel overnight. This spot at O'Brien Tire & Auto Care worked great for us! The location was easy to find and get into with our 39' trailer. We parked on the dead end road that runs beside a local greenspace. Scott, the owner, came over and introduced himself and we had a nice chat. At the time, we didn't need any tires or service, but I would not hesitate to have this shop work on my vehicle. The place is very neat and orderly and the owner inspires complete confidence. Be aware this is an urban spot and has traffic noise and a bar next door.
We arrived after closing, so we didn't get to meet anybody there. I talked to Ian ahead of time, and confirmed that we would be later than expected. He was very nice and said it wasn't a problem. It was nice to walk to Nick's next door for some dinner. We left at 3:30 am the next day. We encountered no problems, and are grateful for a place to park, eat and get some sleep! Thanks!
Beth and Scott were wonderful hosts! They met us when we arrived to show us where to park. My husband had noticed a nail in our tire before we arrived, so it worked out great that they were able to take care of it for us during our stay. A short drive to the Gateway Arch and SL Zoo. Beth recommended getting toasted ravioli from Mama’s on the Hill since it’s a dish that started in St. Louis. We did and they were yummy! We enjoyed our stay and felt safe on their property.
Great BDW 15 minutes from Gateway Arch N.P.
Easy in and out. Host was helpful and even got my tires checked!
This is a great place to pause for a night before finding your Route 66 way through St. Louis. Scott and Beth were both very kind, although Scott was having a hectic business day. He told me that my tow vehicle tires have life left in them.
Scott said my tires are good for another 20K.
They are living in a 5th wheel on the lot and are anxious to start traveling.
I will be back.
Got a good night sleep here. The host was very helpful for us new campers and we parked right next to his fifth wheel.
Was greeted by the host and offered a very level spot. Location was convenient as we were passing through.
The site provided was convenient and level. It suited our needs as we were passing through. Thanks.
Host was great. quick to return messages and easy to communicate with. Never got to meet him since I was a late arrival on a Sunday night and left early next morning. Great for a quick overnight parking space. Next to park and fairly quiet. Food and grocery store within walking distance.
Tireguy1932 allowed us to stay on their property behind their tire store the last two nights. They had one of the biggest tires in the world in the parking lot that lit up at night. Really Neat to see! We were in town taking care of some real estate business. Since it was our first time coming to Illinois and ever boon-docking we really didn’t know what to expect. We felt very safe and had a nice green grassy area behind us to view.
We ate at the bar and grill next door and met one of the locals. He would stop by every morning as he took his walk and visit with us, sharing his life experiences. We lhad a very pleasant experience.
Brenda and Mike
Great location. Level surface. Very helpful and accommodating people.
I grew up in Granite City and most of my family still live there. I do not live there any longer but visit often. I just know that they have always treated my parents very well with any tire issues that they ever had. You will not go wrong using their services!
