My name is Debbie. I left my home in Fort Qu'Appelle Saskatchewan on March 31, 2014. One week later I met Annie the dog in Bentley Alberta. We hit it off right away and decided that we would head out together to see what we could find. We have been staying at the acreage of my sister and her husband since April 6 getting used to this different way of life. They were kind enough to offer us a place to park ourselves for as long as we wanted to. It is six beautiful acres with the only permanent structure being a large workshop. They live in Red Deer but keep a nice trailer at the on the property and spend most of their time there during the summer. When ,Annie and I arrived we were pulling a 27 foot fifth wheel behind a big Ford F350. After two unfortunate attempts at "away trips" it became clear to me that I was not meant for the truck and trailer life. My truck and fifth wheel are now back in Saskatchewan where my son is attempting to sell them for me. We now have a 27 foot 1989 Vanguard C Class motor home. It is slow as molasses on the hills, but I can back it up and handle it with ease. I love it!
Summer is fading now and it is time to begin preparations for the next stage of our journey. We want to take our time and enjoy the trip between our current location here in Gull Lake Alberta and the lower mainland of Beautiful British Columbia. I am originally from B.C. and I have friends and family there that I am excited to see again! Then sometime around the beginning of October we think we will be ready for an adventure down south somewhere! Not quite sure where yet, but there will be no snow! The more I can stretch my travel budget , the longer I can live this dream that I have had for as long as I can remember. I hope that boondocking will be a big part of my thrifty new lifestyle. I look forward to meeting and maybe getting some advice from some seasoned Boondocking Veterans! We have a lot to learn....wish us luck!

Skills & Expertise to Share

I have much to learn. I don't even know how to set up my awning! I will acquire lots of new skills in the coming months and then I can be helpful to others.

debbie and annie's Rig

1989 27 foot Vanguard C Class motor home. I bought it from an 86 year old man in Canmore Alberta. He and his wife are the original owners and it has been treated with TLC for 25 years! He wanted to keep it for one more season but the Mrs. had had enough. It only had 58,000 km on it when I purchased it. It looks it's age and could use a little sprucing up, so I will see what I can do with it. It has an old generator at the back but I have not used it. The man I bought it from fired it up for me and it sounded like a noisy lawn mower! I am going to look into solar panels at some point I think.
