We live in an old house on a quiet road, just across from the Penobscot River as it widens into the ocean. There is a public pebble beach and park with wooded walking trails in easy walking distance from our home. Meg is a retired healthcare journalist and Douglas is a lettercutter in stone.
We have a friendly cat named Audrey. She doesn't care much for dogs.
Stockton Springs is a small river town with a history of shipbuilding, fishing and other water-related commerce. We’re about 20 miles from Belfast, which offers a variety of restaurants, fun shopping and frequent music festivals in the summer. Bucksport is about 10 minutes from us, with shopping, a movie theater and other amenities. Bar Harbor and Acadia National Park are about an hour and 15 minutes away.
1982 VW pop-top camper in great shape. Commercial portapotty and grey water tank.
Wish we had more time to talk with MegandDouglas, and hope we can stay at their place in Maine someday.
The perfect guests: friendly, quiet, nice to visit with. Welcome back any time!
Nice couple and great spot for a night (or more) to enjoy the Maine water side. Very gracious hosts.
An amazing spot a short walk from a beach and some trails. Hosts were very nice, offering us food from their garden and local spots to explore. If we're ever in the area again we'll stay here!
MegAndDouglas have a beautiful place that is the perfect stepping off point to several local points of interest. Waking distance to a beach park on the river and minutes to Fort Knox and Penobscot Narrows Bridge.
This was our first Boondockers Welcome stay and we found it to be immensely enjoyable! Location was easy to get to, and beautiful! Friendly hosts were very welcoming. We would highly recommend.
Beautiful location and very hospitable hosts. They were patient with us as we ran late and arrived after dark. We didn’t have time to visit with them long, but they were very friendly and helpful. The location is quiet and peaceful.
The hosts communicated well and were there to greet me when I arrived. They assured that I had everything I needed. The site was level and easy to maneuver. The host told be about a lovely beach that was close by. I enjoyed talking with the hosts and hope to visit again. Very pretty views.
Excellent communication and the host had great recommendations on things to see and do in the area! Thank you so much! Wonderful stay.
Welcomed us and had a lovely place. Just what was needed for the night!
We had the pleasure of staying with MegandDouglas en route to Acadia and they could not have been more kind and accommodating. They were welcoming despite our later than hoped arrival (we did make it before dark), pointed us to the pebble beach and beautiful hiking trail 1/4 mile away, and even helped us find a local mechanic in the morning (even though it took them three tries to find someone to accommodate our rig). They were just what we needed at that point in our trip. Thank you!
This was a great stay for us. Hosts got back to us quick. Were very friendly when we arrived. Also Accommodating that we had to arrive a bit later. Their land is so beautiful and peaceful. Nice view of the river, beach access within walking distance and very quiet. Would definitely try to stay there again passing through the area.
Our favorite stay so far!! What wonderful, interesting, helpful hosts. Beautiful, scenic drive. The “Real Maine” I was wanting to experience, and show my daughter, is right out their door and all around them. Yet another beautiful memory we would’ve missed if it wasn’t for BW. We’ve never been to Maine so I asked her for some tips and advice and she provided some perfect “must do’s” as well as some “naw, you can skip that” advice. We can’t wait for our next trip to Maine to visit them again.
What a wonderfully quiet, peaceful stay, with warm and inviting hosts. Thank you for hosting, keep safe..
This was a great stop. The host couldn't have been more kind and the property is just beautiful. The parking spot is next to an apple tree with a lovely view of a field. The beach is a short walk away.
Having been on public land for a few days with no electricity it was a great break for me to use my shower (with hot water and a blow dryer) and clean my camper up a bit.
Most highly recommended.
Our hosts were very nice and generous! What a beautiful, quiet place to boondock. We stayed an extra night and were able to explore the area a little more. Thank you for your hospitality and for sharing!
thank you Meg and Douglas for the warm welcome, and for recommending us to see your beautiful and historical City. No one will ever regret meeting people like you. thank you again. Highly recommended, and yes we are using your special gifts .
MegAndDouglas have a wonderful spot that's beautiful and quiet. They're very kind and relaxed hosts. I stayed for the weekend while exploring the coast of Maine.
Hosts were warm and personable and had many helpful recommendations, both for visiting their area as well as our next stop down the road. We enjoyed the fort, bridge observatory, short walk to the beach (our dog's favorite), and quiet roads for walking. We even got to tag along for clamming at the "Amazon!" Thanks for hosting us, and hope to see you back in VT!
Our hosts were absolutely so incredible. The spot has a front view of the Penobscot River from the level driveway and a gorgeous field when you open up your door. We met with our hosts our first night for some socially distanced libations and truly enjoyed the opportunity to talk with them. Such incredible hosts with lovely property. A sure favorite of ours.
We spent a quiet night and got some valuable advice about what to see and do in the Acadia region. Thanks for everything Meg and Doug and hope we see you on the Cape.
Great hosts with a lovely beach on the river within walking distance.
Meg and Douglas were great hosts, and saw that we were settled in comfortably and offered great local advice. It’s a peaceful place overlooking a gorgeous meadow of wildflowers home to songbirds and a flock of wild turkeys. Very relaxing and quiet. Perfect for our first landing site on a tour of Maine.
Meg&Douglas were gracious and welcoming. Proper social distance was applied. We were shown where to park in a nice paved level space. and immediately offered outdoor table and chairs if we wanted. We sat and shared cheese and crackers and a nice bottle of wine. Our conversation was like meeting old friends. Thank you for a great first boondock experience.
We really enjoyed meeting our hosts and staying on their property. We walked down to the beach and even caught the sunrise the next morning at the river. Thank you so much!
Wonderful stay at Meg and Doug’s. Excellent spot and a nice welcome as well.
On our favorite list for sure!
We are so glad we were able to meet and spend time with Meg and Douglas. They were generous hosts and made sure we had everything we needed. They also provided so much information about the area and what to see in our brief stay. We were also fascinated to learn about the details of their lives and careers. Highly recommend this stay for fellow boondockers!
A very nice visit and stay with Meg and Doug. Wonderful spot, easy to find, a minute from town beach.
Would be happy to visit again.
What a beautiful place to live, thank you for sharing your piece of paradise. We were greeted with a welcoming smile. Meg and Douglas explained clearly where they wanted us to park. They sat outside with us for a while to share their stories and learn about us. Couldn't have been better. Thank you for your gracious hospitality.
