We are semi-retired and enjoy traveling. Mark is a partner in a temporary work service for construction trades located in Salt Lake City, UT. Paula retired from software customer service management several years ago. Our home is on 10 wooded acres with a private pond. We use our lake/pond for swimming and paddle boats. We are about 6 miles north from State Highway 47 in Troy, MO and our house is set back off the road--all paved or gravel. Not a lot of flat ground but plenty for parking overnight. We have a large wood deck at the back of our house overlooking our lake. We moved here in mid 2013 after living in Salt Lake City for 20 years, and we are originally from Wisconsin and California a long time ago. We are parents of 5 children and 13 grandchildren--the nearest geographically are 90 minutes away in IL. We are simple people that enjoy the simple life and looking forward to meeting new friends.
We have 3 small dogs, Gizmo, Tiki, and Trixie that are usually with us in the RV. We also have 2 cats, but we try to leave them home! All of the dogs are friendly and there is no biting, but there may be some licking!
Haven't stayed anywhere yet.
Troy, MO is about 65 miles NW of St. Louis and is a small town of about 10,000 population. We are also about 60 miles south of Hannibal, MO, where Mark Twain lived. We are actually about 7 miles north of town and are secluded on 10 acres of mostly woods, with a small lake of our own. Troy has Walmart, another grocery store, and an Aldi. We have several fast food places and a few restaurants. Also a quaint little historic town with a few businesses. Our gas stations usually rank as some of the least expensive in the state.
We have a 1999 34 ft. Newmar motorhome with 2 slide outs. Sometimes we pull a closed in trailer in which we carry the CanAm, our 3 wheeled motorcycle. When we’re towing, we’re about 50’ long
They were very warm and inviting. The kind of folks you'd wish all Americans were. They were very interactive with us and our boys. Mark even took them for a boat ride. We enjoyed hanging out on their deck overlooking their little lake and watching the birds.
We completed our stay this morning with Paulmark and it is hard to put into words just how terrific they treated us. We so enjoyed our conversations. They were so helpful with directions and suggestions. I can't say enough good things. They are very helpful and so easy to get to know. Having coffee on the deck in the morning. Watching the dogs and animals. Their home is so peaceful. The location was very convenient to St. Louis and we were able to spend a day in the city to visit the Gateway Arch. If we are ever in the area again, you can bet we will request to stay with them again. Thank you so much for everything!
Paula and Mark are incredibly friendly and generous hosts! They took us right in, shared a few tools with us and are very easy to communicate travel plans with. It Our stay was brief, but in the short time we spent together we found a lot of common interests to talk about like travel, exercise, holistic wellness and dogs! We look forward to visiting again. Thank you Paulmark!
Mark and Paula were fantastic hosts! We requested our stay for the same day they were returning from a trip themselves, and they still allowed us to stay with them. They were super responsive and helpful. When we arrived, they both came out to greet us and Mark invited us to join him for coffee in the morning. I met Mark on the back porch in the morning for coffee and great conversation! We will definitely plan to return the next time we are in the area!
Arrived at paulmark's property & was welcomed by both of them & their fur babies. Beautiful property with great spot for camper. Extremely nice couple who came to our door with ice and a snack which was well received after traveling all day in the heat. Will def stay again when in the area.
I had a great visit with Paulmark! Extremely hospitable to me and my road dog, Scout. We were welcomed into their home, had entertaining conversations, and a morning hike around the property. Wish I had more time to visit with them!
I hope to visit again or see them down the road!
