My name is Michael J. Sullivan, and I'm a New York Times and USA Today bestselling fiction author. My best-known works are The Riyria Revelations and Legends of the First Empire. Because I can write just about anywhere, the mobile lifestyle is attractive to me, so my wife and I just bought a Jeep and a teardrop trailer. While campgrounds are fine, we prefer to be in wide-open spaces with great views and just a few people. We will pick up our [email protected] 320 CS-S at the end of February and we are hoping for a big trip west to see some of the amazing national parks.
Our main home (where we offering to host people) is in the Shenandoah Valley of Virginia in Luray, which has excellent caverns. It's not overly big (just 3.5 acres) but it is flat and we have a pool, pool house, and outdoor kitchen that people are welcome to use when they visit.
For any aspiring authors out there, I can share with you some tips of the trade. My wife and business manager is a publishing expert and loves helping fellow authors navigate the difficult world that is publishing. I enjoy birding although I'm fairly new to this pastime bu I really enjoy it, and we often travel to places where birds migrate.
We are picking up our teardrop in a few weeks so we've not gone anywhere yet.
Luray Virginia. My wife designed and we built a log cabin.
I have a nuCamp [email protected] CS-S (grey with black accents) pulled by a Red 4-door Jeep.
Michael spent a quick over with us and was on his way. They were respectful and quiet guests and welcome back anytime!
This property is lovely. Host was very hospitable and we enjoyed our evening. Our girls enjoyed a swim in the pool after riding in the car all day. This was our first experience with BW and we couldn’t be happier.
Everything was great. He is very cordial and pleasant to speak with. Has a beautiful home in the country side. Quiet and peaceful surrounded by mountains.
Very generous Host with a beautiful property, they are very accommodating and welcoming folks. Would stay again, Thank you for the stay.
I couldn't believe how beautiful this stay was! Pictures don't do it justice and I hope that I can get back here some day. It was peaceful and quiet and would recommend staying here to everyone! The hosts were also very helpful on what to do in the surrounding areas and pleasant to talk to.
We have boondock many times and have enjoyed it every time. Staying at Avrlyn was amazing. Our hosts were very welcoming and welcomed us to use the many amenities. The beautiful spot had a very refreshing pool with an outdoor kitchen which we enjoyed during our two-day stay. Our host also supplied internet. My hotspot was not able to get a signal. Thankfully, I was able to plan out more of our trip with the site's internet. I am sure we will return. I recommend Avlyn highly if you want a great getaway, in a great area, and plenty to see.
This was a fantastic stay. The host gave us a quick tour of the property and made sure what had everything we needed. We enjoyed a few hours sitting by the pool enjoying the scenery. I was all so beautiful. After we fixed supper, we met the dog and the hostess and swapped birding stories, and interests. The star watching here is great, it's a shame some clouds rolled in for the peak meteor shower viewing hours. We thoroughly enjoyed ourselves. I'm glad I could help with the computer software. We are both enjoying the results of your work.
My husband and I felt right at home at Michaels place. He greeted us when we arrived (a little later than expected) and showed us around the area. We were able to use the grill and enjoyed a brief evening swim in the pool which was amazing after a long day of traveling. Highly recommend staying here! It has been our favorite place thus far!
Nice grassy location to park the rv. Lots to do in the area. Briefly spoke with Mrs. and daughter. Thanks for the stay and electric hookup.
I really enjoyed the rolling, winding roads, in and out of this remote valley. But, I was happy to be in a Sprinter van, and not towing a 5th wheel rig. Roads like these are motorcycle heaven.
This is a truly beautiful property, from the front gate to the garage to the guest house, surrounded by wooded mountains, and many, many cows. On my last day there, I got up before sunrise to shoot the porperty before the mountain fog burned off. I have a gallery of boondocker hosts on my website, in the Travel section. I'll definitely add some Avrlyn photos very soon.
As a full-time nomad, I'm happy just to stop driving, and have a place to plug-in, cool off. Wi-fi is a big bonus, as much of my work is online. But, finding this remote quiet place, with a gorgeous pool, was as close as I've been to a real vacation in years.
I walked the property, photographed foggy fences, cornfields, and an endless stream of cyclists. I swam each day, and grilled my dinner in the poolside cabana. I almost got in the hammock but, feared I'd fall asleep and burn my meal. Maybe next year.
What a great experience.
The place and area is in the foothills of the Shenandoah Mountains. The views were perfect for a getaway or stopover to your next destination.
The hosts were very open and inviting. Wonderful conversation with Michael - quite engaging.
A definite stop if you are in the area.
Mike and his wife were excellent hosts. They went above and beyond to make me feel welcome. They have such a lovely home near Shannendoah National Park and they even offered me the pool! The swim quite welcome after a long drive. What a relaxing stay. Highly recommend a stay there. .. just don't go over the mountain like I did. Oops.
Peaceful and beautiful property with lovely mountain views but the best part was the gracious hospitality and interesting conversation offered by the host. We thoroughly enjoyed our stay.
We were initially concerned since our ETA text messages had gotten no responses, but we proceeded on our way & gladly found our Host at home. He helped us get power and gave us a tour of the Pool and backyard area. Unfortunately our Hosts had plans for the evening, so we never got to sit, talk, share stories, etc.
Just a Heads-up - we had Zero signal with Verizon (3 iPhones, 2 iPads), we also neglected to get the WiFi password, so we were truly Off the Grid. A huge rainstorm kept us indoors, but it was so cool, it was the 1st rain we had experienced in the last 6 months, having travelled from CA,AZ, NM and TX! This made for a peaceful night’s sleep.
Thanks for sharing your beautiful property with us & we would love to return if you will have us and maybe get to chat next time!
For fellow BW guests - our F250 & 24ft Lance 1995 got through the entry gate just fine.
This location was just beautiful view to start your day. The hosts were very helpful in getting me set up for my stay which I am grateful! We had wonderful conversations during my stay about many things. I thoroughly enjoyed myself!
I highly recommend this location, surrounded by beautiful mountains, in a very quiet area, and with great hosts—interesting conversations, very accommodating, and generous—use of pool/patio, etc. We had a great time in our 20’ camper in this location with the hosts, and hope to visit again when we pass through this area in the future.
We thoroughly enjoyed our stay at this host property. The views were beautiful and the property is gorgeous. We were unable to meet our host in person but we did meet their lovely daughter who was very helpful and accommodating. We explored Shenondoah National park and the surrounding area. Would definitely recommend a stay with this host. Thank you!
This property is beautiful! Nestled in the Shenandoah Valley at the base of the National Park, surrounded by farmland and sweeping views. The property itself sets back off the road and is lush and green with ample room for our van. Our hosts are incredibly gracious, down-to-earth and easy to talk with. We truly enjoyed our visit with them.
We stayed one evening and would love to stay again when we come back!
Wonderful host. I could not have asked for more then they provided. I will definitely keep them in mind the next time I am on the Luray VA area.
Flat grassy area. Gracious host offered use of the patio and pool house (pool closed for the season), electric, water, and WiFi. Just a heads up, spotty AT&T signal.
I only got to spend one evening since I was just traveling through. My loss. The hosts were very welcoming, showed me all the various amenities that were available, including the fenced in pool area, pool house and outdoor grill. The spot where I parked my Roadtrek RV was perfectly level and immediately adjacent was the electrical hookup. Thank you so much.
R&M offered many amenities including their beautiful outdoor recreational space which we took advantage of our last evening. It was great being able to meet R&M and chat about our travels. This host is very close to Luray Caverns and Shenandoah National Park. Driving Skyline Drive and catching the sunset was beautiful.
Thanks Again R&M for your gracious hospitality.
Beautiful location to spend the night. Our host was very helpful getting us set up. Highly recommend this location.
Upon our arrival, we were greeted by our hosts and they helped us get set up. Our hosts were very kind, thoughtful, generous....the list is endless. Their property is absolutely breathtaking and quiet. We wish we had more time to spend with our hosts (they are very interesting folks) since we went hiking both days. They suggested trails for us to explore which was quite helpful. We're looking forward to going back there again.
Thanks Soo much for the wonderful hospitality and helping us on our first adventure! We had a great time!
We spent two nights parked by M and R's home. They live in a truly beautiful location, with great access to Shenandoah National Park. They were generous in allowing us to use their lovely back patio.
Thank you so much for allowing us to stay in such a beautiful place. Although it rained for the entire trip the views the mountains the leaves and the access to Shenandoah national Park was perfect. Wonderful hospitality, everything we needed and would love the opportunity to stay again in the future. Hardly felt like we were boondocking :-)
This is a lovely location for touring shenandoah national park. Easy to find. Very accommodating hosts. Beautiful vistas and tons of nighttime stars!
We arrived and got the tour...our jaws kept dropping lower and lower as we saw the beautiful pool and patio area they made available to their guests. This is resort living for goodness sakes!
We chatted for nearly an hour as we kept finding things that we had in common.
Wonderful people, wonderful facilities. This is one we’ll make an effort to get back to when we aren’t so booked up with appointments just to spend more time in property.
We’re also eager to follow up on some reading recommendations they gave us! ;-)
Wow - Avrlyn was so much more than we were expecting. Beautiful setting, home, and outdoor area. Our hosts spent their entire evening with us outside by their pool. Much lively conversation on many topics, drinks and a bite to eat. It was comfortable and like being with old friends, not folks we just met! Thanks so much. We would definitely stop by here again if in the area.
This was our second Boondockers Welcome stay. We were welcomed beyond expectations.
The hosts are friendly, courteous, welcoming, and gracious. The experience was like visiting with long-term friends.
A level site with easy access to water and electric is a comfortable fit for our 18’ Minnie Winnie
A word of advice:
Garmin GPS coordinates are almost a mile off, and on the wrong side of the road, Google Maps is accurate.
Beautiful place! Enjoy our stay very much. And the pool! Nice to meet these hosts, thank you so much!!
I was only here for one night on my way home to get my daughter from college after the school closed due to the pandemic. They were the sweetest most gracious hosts you could imagine. It is also a beautiful area, wish I could have had time to explore it more! Thanks so much for hosting me.
We had a great stay. The hosts were super nice and inviting. The location is awsome for the skyline drive, and the property is large and beautiful.
