I am a recently 'retired' public educator of 35 years. My children are all grown and living in the San Diego and Washington state areas. We are very close and I visit often. I still work as a free lance technical writer and fund developer and am also a full-time artist. I'm looking forward to exploring this wonderful, beautiful country of ours and meeting kindred spirits along the way.

Skills & Expertise to Share

Photography (from film to darkroom) as well as many other art skills, teaching, cooking on the road, listening (I'm a good ear!), pet watching, gardening.

DianaSD's Pets

I have a 9 year old shepherd mix who is a great traveler. Toby is a momma's boy so I keep him with me all the time when I do bring him on travels. He loves people and playing with his toys. He gets along with other dogs, but he is an enthusiastic greeter at first. He also likes cats. He enjoys long walks and playing fetch forever.

Favorite Boondocking Locations

DianaSD's Hometown

I live within less than an hour hiking distance from the southwest boundary of Joshua Tree National Park.

DianaSD's Rig

Rig Type: Class B

19 feet long

I have a ModVan CV1 built in a Ford Transit 150. The top pops up for the bedroom. I have no generator and the mechanism to lift the top is incredibly quiet. It literally takes one minute to raise or lower it. I can also make a bottom bed if I'm in a situation where putting up the top isn't feasible. I have a Thetford toilet that is easily dumped at dump stations or other acceptable locations. All liquids are contained and easily hauled out with me. I can park in any driveway as it's literally just an extended van - 148". Height with top down is about 8 ft. With the top fully up, 11 ft.
