Nice guest, stay with us again when the weather is better! You are welcome anytime.
The host's father and son (and a son's friend) were like a pit crew that got us settled. They worked with us until we were safely locked down. The property is on a moderately steep hill and the driveway slopes to one side and to the back. To compensate, the host has made chocks to lift the rear of your rig (after backing in) and to level it (approximately) side-to-side. If you don't have jacks that will actually correct the side slope (we don't), he has plenty of wood for supports. We had trouble getting our load-levelers reattached when we left because of the slope and tilt; in the end, more wood blocks under the tongue jack helped. Before coming, be sure to CALL the host and discuss your rig with him. He will help you make it all work. If you want to use your own fresh water hose, bring at least 30 feet. Our 25' electric cable reached his outlet (20 amp) and he has a 30 amp plug adapter in place.
We stayed over for one night and our hosts were amazing! They helped us to back in and get us all set up on blocks they had made to help get us level. Mike and Joy were super friendly, nice, and willing to help with whatever they could. The neighborhood is really nice and we enjoyed walking around and checking out the marina and some of the walking trail. We arrived later in the day and left in the morning but wished we could have stayed longer to enjoy some more time getting to know Mike and Joy. They are really great hosts! Thanks!!!
We stayed 2 nights during holiday weekend so our hosts weren't home during our stay. There daughter came to say hi and ask if we needed anything though. Hosts had left our names with the gate so we had zero issues getting into community. We had little trouble getting level but our host had left plenty of wood to use along with our own blocks. We managed to get pretty level. He had left 5 ft extention cord to hook into. We had no issues with power.
He was in contact with us prior to and during arrival. Gave us plenty of options for entertainment. We enjoyed a walk/bike ride down to the park and Government Island where we seen some wildlife.
We enjoyed our stay here at the Gateway to History.
Our hosts were very kind and caring people. They truly go out of their way to help you. Top notch folks! I want to return again and hopefully spend some time trading travel adventures.
The Gateway to History; Mike & Joy greeted as we arrived at their location, helped us back-in, and helped us get our rig leveled and set up. Gave us access to electric hookups and water and even provided us with dinner for our first night’s stay. Thank you so much for letting stay at your place, for taking us in and treating like family. We are grateful and feel so blessed for everything you have provided us and continue to provide us. We are overwhelmed with your kindness and generosity. Thank you so much! You two are amazing!
OMG...hosts are friendly, helpful, and readily available. Back-in location not ideal for novices and spot does require some leveling but hosts go above and beyond by helping with it all! Perfectly situated for day trips to DC or, take advantage of tons of options right in the secure neighborhood. Highly recommended and look forward to staying again when we visit next!
These folks are amazing. Gated community so it’s safe and secure. Very welcoming hosts. Fellow RVers so they know the lingo and how to help you set up. Great location for visiting DC and northern VA. Will definitely be back!
