This is the perfect spot for those that need a one-night pitstop before hitting Joshua Tree. Ideal for getting an early morning jump on the first-come first-serve campsites in the park. Especially for us larger rigs that have less options
Loved our stay here! Hosts are kind and generous with their time. We loved chatting with them; they are funny, genuine, and savvy. The story behind the lot is hilarious (thanks Caltrans!) and it was perfect for our 22' campervan. Our kids enjoyed exploring the area too (just make sure you know the boundaries of the property).
nice large level lot. a true desert experience with the wind. lots of big sky to view the stars!
We enjoyed meeting the hosts and appreciated the wide open space of their asphalt lot, perfect for boondocking! The park entrance and visitor center was about 25 mins away. It was a little windy through the night, consider that when parking up to try to take the wind head on rather than to the side.
The "Wonder Why" spot works well for us when we are near Joshua Tree. The Verizon internet was fantastic, which is important for our work. The hosts are welcoming. They stopped by when we arrived and waved good bye when we left. There was another RV family there when we arrived that left the next day. There is plenty of room for several RVs, if you are traveling with friends. It can be a bit windy and dusty, because it's the desert. We enjoyed our stay! Thank you!
Level, paved; plenty of space. Host was very accommodating and helpful; would definitely recommend!
A lovely spot to stop and rest. Quiet and peaceful, away from the crowds of Joshua Tree. Great place to sit and watch the sky. Beautiful sunset and sunrise views, magnificent starry sky at night. Stayed for two nights so I could rest and work a bit before getting back on the road, and it was perfect. Good T-Mobile service (2-3 bars). Hosts were lovely, kind, and welcoming. Thanks so much! I look forward to coming back next time I’m in the area.
Easy to find, huge level parking area. Hosts were super friendly. Nice location if exploring Joshua Tree! Make sure to check out the stars at night!
This level and clean spot in the desert outside Joshua Tree park was just perfect for us. Thank you!
Fun visit with host. Nice level spot with panoramic view of the desert, mountains and close to Joshua Tree. Thank you for allowing us to stay!
Our 2nd time here and we love it! Nice spot to be spaced out even if there are other campers.
Very responsive host. Enjoy our chats.
Perfect if you’re visiting Joshua Tree National Park.
Stayed here while visiting JTNP. Large, level lot as advertised. Worked well for us. (Also the Mexican Street Taco restaurant in town was great!). Thanks to the hosts for having us!
Easy access and very level for a 42 foot coach. Wonderful hosts, very accommodating and fun communications. looking forward to the next time we get to stay!
Quiet place. Hosts came out to chat when we arrived. Great spot for getting out to Joshua Tree for hikes.
A little tricky to find but once we got there pretty amazing. Very quiet and close enough to Joshua Tree National Park. The owners came out to introduce themselves, very nice, friendly couple. We would definitely stay again if we're in the area.
We spent two wonderful evenings here. Our Host were a wonderful couple that met us on arrival had a great conversation. The sunsets and sunrises are beautiful here not to mention the stars. We’ll definitely be back. Great People, Great Spot Great Stay!!
Great place to stop. Nicer folks. Lots of room. Great stars and very close to Joshua Tree NP
Very nice hosts and - holy heck - the sky! If, like me, you can’t decide if you like sunrise, sunset, or a night sky full of stars best, this is a great spot to stop. Went into town for ribs and to visit Joshua Tree National Park. Great overnight trip!
Our weekend adventure was epic. Super easy to locate this property. Right off the hwy, up a dirt road just a bit.
Pulled our rig into a huge, level asphalted area. We lucked out to have the whole place to ourselves!
Kept in contact with the host and they always responded back in a timely manner.
We had fun in Jtree climbing rocks and hiking a trail. We also stopped at a couple outdoor vendor markets in town.
Ordered take out from the Joshua Tree Rib Co. highly recommend... but order dinner early as the wait time gets long. So worth it tho!
The Milky Way was indeed within reach and the stars were amazing from this property. The place is super quiet and peaceful. Enjoyed a walk out to some abandoned shacks from the property also. Super cool and nostalgic!
Spoke to the host for a bit on our way out... he's super informative of the area and has some cool stories!
Will definitely visit here again! Thank you for a safe quiet place to hang out in the desert!
We really enjoyed our stay at Obte129. Very convenient location near Joshua Tree NP. Large level lot was quiet w beautiful scenery. Owner stopped in to visit and say hi. Very friendly and informative about the area.
Exactly as described! Much appreciated.
We had a very good stay here. The host is friendly and hospitable. We recommend the place highly!
We appreciated staying here. Easy in and out. Quiet neighborhood. The host was friendly and informative.
We had a perfect stay while visiting Joshua Tree National Park - thank you for making it available!
Exactly as described. I was the only one there for two days and I did not meet the hosts. Other than receiving a welcome text I was left my own devices. Convenient to Joshua tree national Park North east entrance, Good Verizon reception and I felt safe.
The host was very quick to respond and helpful. The spot is exactly as described.
Convenient Basecamp to explore Joshua Tree! Easy drive to the Oasis visitor center entrance.
Awesome, flat and convenient spot near JTNP! Since campgrounds are closed in the park, this was a great spot to stay!
We stayed here for 2 nights in our Scamp 13' small travel trailer and had a fantastic time visiting this location near one of the entrances to Joshua Tree National Park (about 8 minutes drive). It's very quiet and tucked enough back behind the main highway (not too busy at night) that it is very private. The site is paved, flat, and very large and can accommodate many RVs. There was only one other trailer when we visited on the first night and we were alone the second night. The site itself is interesting because it backs right up to the desert and there are some walking paths that lead to old settler's homesteads (little abandoned shacks). We met the host after spending a day hiking in Joshua Tree National Park. He is very friendly and we enjoyed our time talking. The stars are very brilliant here and we were fortunate enough to have visited at the peak of the Gemenid meteor shower! It can get windy, so make sure to bring some warm clothing. Highly recommended location!
Great private space with only lights in the distance so you can see the entire milky way!
Super nice people. Love this spot.
We are all about the internet speeds for our Verizon jetpack and this was the best spot so far! Host stopped by on day 2 to say hello and check on us. Thank you! This is true boondocking with no services, so come prepared. Lots of sun for solar and beautiful sunsets over the mountains. It is a good place to stop if you want to see Joshua Tree National Park, as the park has closed their campgrounds due to Covid (December 2020).
It was cold and windy and dark already when we arrived but we communicated via text and was warmly welcomed. The lot was quiet with stars and good cell signal for both t mobile and AT&T. Thanks for letting us stay!
This was an amazing stay! The hosts were super friendly and the site was great. We got lucky and we're the only ones here so our girls got to ride their bikes around. If you're going to visit Joshua Tree National Park I highly recommend staying here. Do yourself a favor and spend a good ten to twenty minutes adjusting to the night sky to see the beautiful night sky! I will definitely be come back here in the future!
We stopped for a stay overnight and communicating with the host was easy. We had no trouble and enjoyed the quiet spot. The stars are incredible at night - we had a nice clear sky.
We would definitely stay again.
Thank you so much for this awesome spot to park for a couple of days on my journey. A real plus is how close this is to Joshua Tree Nat. Park - so I was able to get in some great hikes while I waited for the winds to calm down. Highly recommended - with gratitude to the hosts.
We are so grateful that WonderWhy accommodated our late-notice request to stay overnight after we spent the afternoon/evening at Joshua Tree! Love the location and the easy in and out! Also, great cell service for the kids to do school and hubby to do work in the morning.
Perfect location for our adventures! The place is everything they describe. Beautiful night sky, quiet, convenient. We would definitely stay here again when in this area.
Host was very nice. Drove up to our spot about an hour after we arrived to say hi. He was wearing a mask for covid protection, which nice was we do too. Nice and quiet spot. We hoped to see lots of stars but it was a bit overcast and the sky was not in full "bloom" that night. It was August, so be prepared to run your A/C all night this time of year. Hope to get back again in a cooler month to enjoy the stars.
For thinking about creating this level surface for the mobile community! We appreciated the opportunity to stay very much on our way to San Diego to visit our daughter and family.
This is Boondocking at it's finest, i.e. the Ritz! Easy to find, convenient to the highway but quiet, level asphalt so no dirt & cactus.
Thank you, nice people, for making this available for weary travelers!
Our host was so nice! He made us feel like we belonged there and welcome us back anytime! His wife was under the weather, no not the “virus”, so didn’t get to meet her, but we will on our next visit. I would have liked to have stayed longer!
What a great alternative to fighting the crowds to get a place in Joshua tree national Park.
The spot was just a few minutes outside the entrance. Quiet, dark night with amazing stars. Our host was very generous, we had a short conversation as we were heading out. We would stay again
Level asphalt better than Walmart’s nice hosts and no trucks running all night.
Quiet, large area to park. Stargazing opportunity with wide open skies. Friendly hosts!
Great, open space to enjoy stargazing, peace and quiet. JTNP entrance within easy travel. Loved watching the wild bunnies romp when we woke up in the morning!
Safe and peaceful. Gajillion stars to sit under in the evening while barbecuing and very close to Joshua Tree National Park. We booked one night then booked a 2nd night. There was still more to see and hike at the park so we booked a 3rd night! Very nice and accommodating hosts!
We haven’t met the host yet but look forward to it. We are going to request another night so we can visit Joshua Tree Park. Nice level paved area near the park.
This was a great, level, quiet place to stay! Very close to the Oasis entrance of Joshua Tree National Park. We informed our host that we had arrived and he met us within a few minutes. We had a nice chat and appreciated his requested recommendations- had a delicious dinner at Arteaga’s Mexican place in 29 Palms. After spending the day in the park, we exited at Joshua Tree, then returned to Wonder Why for a second night. The cell reception was great! Thank you to the host.
Neat place to stay, the moon was beautiful coming up over the mountains. Very nice couple, welcomed us with cookies.
This was my first BW experience and it went way better than I hoped. I stayed over Christmas and my hosts were so kind and welcoming! Even greeting me with a present and bringing me a huge plate of amazing homemade food. Location is quiet, feels safe, and is huge! If you are heading to Joshua Tree National Park I definitely recommend a night or two under the desert stars here.
As I had the honor of being Dan and Fay’s first Boondocking guest, I now have the privilege of submitting the first review. They have a great setup for Boondocker’s. Great access right off the highway with a big level asphalt lot. It comes with a 360 degree view that provided me with a beautiful unobstructed sunset and sunrise. The GPS coordinates gave me a location 1/4 mile past his place, so Dan drove out after me and led me back. Had a nice conversation with him that afternoon, and the following morning with both Dan and Fay. I’ll definitely drop by the next time I’m in the area.
We are traveling in your area next week and saw during my search that you are celebrating your 50th. I just wanted to tell Happy Anniversary. We host in Marysville California.
