I have travelled as far as Cabo San Lucas, Mexico and Cape Breton Island, Nova Scotia. We spent 8 months traveling across Canada, down the West coast, and all around the Southwest, living the life. We've enjoyed having all the interesting people that have stayed with us, and hope to see them again somewhere on their or our travels. We are athletic, and eat a whole food plant based diet. We loved meeting new like minded people. I still will try to accommodate people at our home as best as possible as I spend half my time in Florida, or places as yet unknown.
I've had motorhomes, and worked on them for the past 20 years, I can get through most of the little things that always seem to need doing.
I have a very adorable shih-tzu poodle named Smeagol. Of course... he traveled with us!
2015 Airstream Bambi
We stayed at Lisa and Andrew for three days. After only being there for a few hours we were like old friends.
Hi is a great guide to the attractions of the area.
The place is beautiful.
thank you Lisa and Andrews from Paolo, Giovanna and Federico!
This was our first-ever Boondockers Welcome stay and it was a wonderful experience! Kari and her staff are friendly and welcoming. We volunteered and had the opportunity to prepare food for the monkeys, change their bowls, and plant trees in their habitats. We learned so much and would definitely stay here again.
We had a wonderful stay at the monkey stop. The property is big and really well kept. We were able to plug in to power and keep the motorhome nice and cool for the pets, there is also a fenced area where the dogs were allowed to exercise. The sanctuary founder gave us a two hour tour throughout the whole property, what an incredible place by the way, we met 200 monkeys, took beautiful pictures and learned a lot. Can't wait to go back and volunteer.
We were only passing through and wish we had more time to have stayed and helped out.
Nicely shaded spots with electric. Easy to find. Most interesting were the monkeys. We loved hearing about their stories & learning about the characteristics of each type of monkey. We took the 1 hour tour in a cart which was much easier on my knees. We will stay there again if our travels take us that way.
Enjoy the outdoors and enjoy the great community of monkeys. Quite a task to keep everything moving forward for everyone. So we had the pleasure of helping as needed. Volunteers are a big part of what keeps such a task running smoothly. Monkeys are being careful taking of with love and patience. So come see ,relax ,help if you can .we all appreciate what is offered by others. Enjoying your stay as we have. (Returning soon)
Words cannot describe the love and compassion here . I was honored to assist Kari with the monkeys and meeting wonderful friends with Rv volunteers . Stayed longer and I still did not want to leave.. I am so thankful for my time there . It is a very special place with amazing special people and monkeys.🤗
Really nice 3 days. Tour 2 hours She knows all monkeys by their name thank you
My mistake of planning too aggressive a travel schedule and not taking better advantage of a great location and interesting hosts. Got to make time this fall and swing (yes, like a monkey) in for a longer stay.
Very much enjoyed meeting Kari and Andrew, great folks. Shared the property with 200 rescued New World Monkeys. We took the 1 hour tour, very well worth it. Had 15 amp electric and water source to fill our fresh tank. Sites vary from dry to electric and water. Would recommend!
This is a must stop for anyone that loves monkeys and wants to help support, protect, and advocate for them. The care and love that goes into making this sanctuary a reality is evident everywhere you look. The monkey and bird habitats are well planned, sturdy, clean, and safe. The owner shared many stories of how the animals came to her...some from laboratories, unwanted pets, or just abandoned. I highly recommend taking the magical monkey experience tour and leaving a donation to help the owner continue to care for all of the rescued primates. The hosts are friendly and accommodating. We stayed one night and parked in a mostly level field and had access to 15 amp hook up. We plan to return and volunteer sometime in the fall. 🐒
Highly recommend this monkey sanctuary for anyone interested in protecting animals ! It rained, but we still had a great tour Sun. and will be back and hopefully a better weather day. So thankful for the work they do there! Open field, I even had a 15 amp plug in thanks to Andrew loaning me and extension cord and adaptor! I had a friend i his RV there too along with 4 others.. plenty of room !
Wow what a place. Only down side was the weather but inspite of the rain had an awesome tour and learned alot.
Would recommend to any animal lovers a most see.
We had a wonderful experience with Monkey Stop and enjoyed our stay.
We first joined BoondockersWelcome in order to find quiet, inexpensive stops along the way to National Forests and BLM grounds. Now that we’ve stayed with six hosts, most recently the folks at The Monkey Stop, we can better appreciate the value of BoondockersWelcome.
We had not heard of the Jungle Friends Primate Sanctuary before requesting to rest at their “Monkey Stop”. We arrived as strangers interested in meeting monkeys, spent three nights, and left as part of the family. This sanctuary is a special place, where good people do good work. Many, if not all, of the monkeys in this sanctuary have experienced gruesome circumstances before they were brought to the sanctuary. Kari, Drew, and their team work tirelessly to provide a safe haven for these dear monkeys. They do everything they can to care for every monkey’s body, mind and spirit. We thoroughly enjoyed our time with all the monkeys and humans. If our circumstances were different, we might not have left!
Great stop on the way back from the Keys. The hosts are lovely and the monkeys are adorable. We will be back next time we are in the area.
Andrew & Kari were excellent hosts,& bent over backwards to accommodate me, their very 1st Boondockers welcome guest.
The monkey sanctuary, that Kari started years ago, has over 250 monkeys, all different species!
Kari has really dedicated her life, to providing a better life for these monkeys, that spent their earlier years in labs, or others that were kept as pets.
Definitely a worthwhile stop over.
Electric & water are available if needed for $15/ night.
Very accommodating. This was our first experience with boondockerswelcome and it turns out they are new Hosts. Our rig is large plus a trailer, so it was a little worrisome pulling in the long driveway. But they worked with us when arriving to make room for us. We were originally concerned about whether having a monkey rescue preserve next-door would be noisy or not, but of course not knowing anything, we went in with an open mind. Turns out it was super quiet at night and the distant infrequent monkey noises after 9 AM was them being greeted by their caregivers with love. We had extra time to take a tour in the morning and it was a wonderful eye-opening experience. Highly recommend.
We love that we have much in common!
Grandli was very kind to let us stay in his driveway and plug in for the night. We only came for one day and didn’t get to talk with him that much because he was very busy but he was very kind and accommodating. We will keep you guys in our prayers please reach out if you are ever in Oshawa.
Grandin were perfect hosts, sharing their driveway, their lovely gardens and their lives with us for a day or too, despite some trying personal circumstances. Good people and we wish nothing but the absolute best for them.
We had a great stay with grandi. The couple of days were very busy for both of us. We had some good conversation and had a great time in Ottawa. These are very nice people, very helpful. A great location to the capital, about 10 minutes away. 2 blocks from the river bike path that will take you almost anywhere you want to go.
A great stay, thanks.
We had a great experience here and were encouraged to stay longer than the original two nights. A good place to be in a quiet neighbourhood.Relatively easy to get to town by bus or by train and bus. I highly recommend these hosts.
Our host were perfect. They were helpful, respectful, welcoming. They give us information about places to visit. I would recommended staying there. If we go back to Ottawa, it will be for sure our host.
As it was our first boondocker experience we are so happy that our host was so friendly and helpful! Great! We enjoyed our stay.
Unfortunately our schedule did not mesh but were helpful and kind when communicated together. Gladly stay here for a longer period of time.
This couple are simply wonderful hosts. Every time we stay with them we leave wishing we could have stayed longer.
They are warm and friendly, very generous with offerings from their garden and very willing to share their vast knowledge.
The ideal example for Boondockers Welcome hosts!
I arrived early evening and they treated me to a cocktail while we sat and chatted in their outside gazebo. Very friendly and welcoming couple. Lovely garden, where I was invited to pick their abundance of snow peas for myself - they were delicious! The kale was looking rather sad - it was providing sumptuous pickings for a local groundhog. This host is very much in demand; I stayed 3 nights and someone was coming in right after - a third time visitor. I look forward to spending more time with them in future. Thank you Grandli!
We had a really nice time with them, Talked for hours about our RV ing experiances, they gave us some tips on for our road ahead and shared a beer.We would have stayed longer but they already had the spot booked for the next two nights. Would stay again if we are ever back in Ottawa area. Would let them stay at our house if we had one.
We had a comfortable stay at this lovely, quiet location. Very convenient for touring Ottawa. Our hosts were very informative and helpful. There is a peaceful green space directly across the street from the drive.
Extremely welcoming people who made us feel at home. Our stay was already special, as we visited Ottowa on Canada day. However, our amazing hosts really made our visit unforgettable.
This was my first experience using Boondockers website.
I couldn't have wish for a better experience.
They were so welcoming & generous.
I stayed longer than I planned to.
Very well located, calm neighborhood.
I recommend ! :-D
Our second boondockers experience. The location is close enough to the city with bus 87. The property is beautiful and quiet in the night. Lisa and Andrew were very kindly, Andrew helped us with the electricity. We stayed two nights and it was wonderful. We recommended this place. Thank you for the stay.
We were in Ottawa for the Canada 150 celebrations and were greeted so very well for our 2 night stay.
They were generous and helpful... they even had a couple of maps handy for us!
Thank you very much!
Our generous hosts greeted us warmly, helped with electricity and water; gave us maps and brochures for downtown along with practical suggestions. We chatted so long, I'm sure their supper was cold. Intending on staying two nights, we actually doubled our stay to take advantage of Ottawa's 'Doors Open' event. A most enjoyable stay. Thank you so much. Hope to see you down east!
Lots of advance information for us Brits in Canada for the first time and a rented RV. There were a few shortcomings with the rental vehicle which our hosts helped us to overcome. Very welcoming and helpful. Very close to bus stops into town. Thanks for a pleasant first Boondocking experience.
It was a real pleasure to meet Grandli. We stayed only one night but we felt like home. Hoping to see them again!
We got a very warm welcome.
Very friendly and opened minded hosts.
Had a nice conversation with them.
We felt like being at home. Had everything we needed for our 2 nights we stayed. Easily hook up to electricity and water.
There is a bus driving downtown in about 20 minutes.
We stayed one night with Grandli in September 2016. Their driveway is sloped but was not a problem. Easy hook-up to electricity and water. Super friendly couple who invited us into their backyard screened area to enjoy conversation over a glass of wine. We really appreciated that they offered the use of their guest "loo."
We stayed back in July for two nights while visiting Ottawa. Hosts were accommodating and made room for us in their driveway providing electrify and water. It was raining and their driveway was just fine. Thanks for the great boondocking stay.
We had a great stay in Ottawa, and appreciated our welcome. Thank you for hosting us, even when you had guests!
We enjoyed our conversations, and your welcoming nature and flexibility. We hope to see you on the west coast some time!
They are very accommodating, very open personalities. recommend highly, very close to the transit bus routes to downtown.
The closest one could expect, with a wonderful dog park very close. Great advice for all trips around and in the city. Garden is great for sharing when in season, and easy to trade stories of ours and theirs RV travels and Blunders. Haha. We have a 36 ft motor-home and lots of room. we stay a few nights in June 2016, and they responded very quickly. less than 48 hours.
Enjoyed our brief stay. Great location.
Beautiful yard and garden. Very helpful with great suggestions. Loved hearing about their Travelling experiences. Definitely recommend this gem in Ottawa. Thank you for making our first boon docking a great one. Solera
This was our very first boondockerswelcome experience and it was superb.
Lisa and Andrew were very friendly and helpful. Even offered us veggies from their garden.
We are looking forward to meeting them again as we found we had many things in common.
Stayed Aug 21,1015. Lovely place, great people.
We really appreciate our short stay in this quiet residential area of Ottawa just near the river. Lisa and Andrew where very friendly and generous. We will surely come back .
Very helpful hosts and very generous. Sharing more than just their driveway but also their beautiful garden and advice. We were only there a day and were sightseeing most of that but they were very gracious hosts when we saw them. Thank you very much
Lisa and Andrew are great hosts. Very helpful and accommodating. Their site is very close to downtown Ottawa and Ottawa is a great place to visit.
We were very fortunate to spend a night with Lisa and Andrew on our epic road trip across Canada. Andrew and Lisa are a wonderful couple and took very good care of us. Wanting to ride our bikes on the Rideau Canal, their house is about 5 minutes from the Rideau River and onwards to the canal. We hope to visit again.
We stayed a couple of nights with Lisa and Andrew - lovely hosts and a great place from which to explore Ottawa by public transport.
This is a very nice spot in a central location in Ottawa. Easy access to downtown by bus. The hosts are charming, interesting and very accommodating. They helped me with problems I had with my new Roadtrek, invited me into their garden and home, shared RVing stories (and photos),and generally provided me with a delightful first experience at a Boondockers Welcome site, for which I am most grateful. Highly recommended!
