Six acres in beautiful southeast Arizona

Do you know or have you hosted this user?

We are located in southern Cochise County just a few miles from both Mexicos - Old and New. We are located off AZ Hwy 92 between Sierra Vista and Bisbee between the Coronado National Monument and the San Pedro River.

This area is a destination of its own - with its sky islands, protected riparian areas, great birding opportunities and a colorful history; or it can be a nice stop along the I-10 or US-80 east/west corridors if you are on your way to either Arizona from the east or New Mexico from the west. This was home to the Apache nation led by Cochise. This is the area of rough and tumble Tombstone - the town too tough to die. And, this is where sky island mountain ranges form a connection between North America's two great mountain ranges - the Rockies and the Sierra Madre - to provide migration routes to thousands of species of birds.

We have built our home on just under six acres of land located in the San Pedro River Valley within view of the Huachuca Mountains, the Mule Mountains and the San Jose Peaks. We can accommodate up to 26' long travel trailer and its tow vehicle or up to 30' long motor home. If you tow a toad with your motor home, you may have to unhook before making the turn into our driveway. You are required to drive about 1 mile on dirt roads to reach our property after turning off AZ Hwy 92.

Our RV is a 2019 Winnebago Micro Mini towable that is just over 25 feet long end to end and has one slide on the driver's side. We pull it with a 2017 RAM 1500 pick up. Both vehicles are in fine shape and well-maintained.

Skills & Expertise to Share

We have loved the outdoors for many years - since we were kids. We have been camping, hiking, backpacking and biking for many years and only recently added an RV to the mix. We have a lot of equipment and expertise for camping, cooking outdoors and enjoying nature.

We also built the house we currently live in. It is a passive solar design and completely off grid using a PV solar system to power the house. We have gained quite a bit of expertise in building houses, solar design and permaculture as a result of moving to a rural setting.

simmer61081's Pets

We have one friendly, gentle dog who has the run of the property and also travels with us. She is a mixed-breed Golden Doodle - 1/2 Golden Retriever and 1/2 Standard Poodle. She gets along very well with other friendly pets, people and especially children.

Favorite Boondocking Locations

We have not done much boondocking with our RV, but we are looking forward to use our self-contained home in this way. All of our favorite camping spots - Mingus Mountain, Mount Graham, Mormon Lake, etc. are great tent sites, but not accessible to even a small RV like ours. We are enjoying putting together a new "favorites" list.

Our first BW experience will be hard to beat!

I can't imagine a more idyllic location or more welcoming host than we experienced at Surrounded by Sky Islands --- it's as magical as the name implies. We were treated to an amazing home-cooked meal which we did not expect and toured their exceptional, creative and lovingly crafted house. They shared a lot of information about the area which was very helpful. One day we explored the nearby Coronado National Memorial in the Huachuca Mountains. Then next day we rode our bikes for 17 miles through the San Pedro River Riparian Conservation Lands.
We have visited Arizona many times, but never made it this far south. We look forward to returning in the future.

Exceptional Hosts! Beautiful Location!

We enjoyed a very pleasant 2-night stay with these hosts! They shared a great deal of info about the area which we were very grateful for. Their home is an absolute work of art and we appreciated hearing all about the project, very interesting! We had a superb dinner together and chatted about all our travel stories. The sunrises and sunsets are incredible at this location, you just have to see it to appreciate it. Thanks again for hosting us, we hope to return someday!

Awesome!

The morning our hosts texted us to get up and check out the sunrise, we loved them! Foodies and all around amazing hosts. We became fast friends and plan to stay in touch. The views were spectacular and they were more than helpful in finding us the best places to go and the best places to see. They have a real passion for this part of Arizona and we appreciated all they did for us.
