Favorite Boondocking Locations

I enjoy out of the way locations on BLM land in Southern Utah or Northern AZ where I can explore nature and take photos.

MinerBoyd's Hometown

Apple Valley, Utah Located near the Arizona border about 20 miles East of St George, UT and 45 min drive from Zion National Park. Grand Canyon North Rim is about 2.5 to 3 hours South and we are just off the Gooseberry Mesa with some of the best Mountain Biking trails in the world only a few minutes away.

Very Pleasant Stay

We had two very nice nights at the Native Cave Dwelling space. MinerBoyd was very helpful at directing us into the parking space and spent some time telling us about the cave dwelling that was up the mountain. It was very nice learning some history of the area.

He shared information about favorite local spots in the area, and we absolutely enjoyed them. Pipe Springs was one of the best museum and historical areas to learn about the early history of the Indians and the Mormans. They actually had a video in the museum that we were allowed to watch and that taught so much about the area!

Our hosts were very helpful and accommodating, and I really appreciated the opportunity for our stay in Apple Valley, and would definitely be happy to return!

Welcoming host

Host met us and helped us park and get set up. Great property in a scenic and quiet neighborhood.

Zion landscape without the crowds

So cool. Super quiet. My son got to feed chickens, play with a dog, hang with kids and explore the surrounding cave and wolf rehab that a neighbor has, (no fingers threw the fence young ones).

Overall, I messed up and did not check my leaving date and Boyd was gracious enough to extend my stay by one night... that was awesome after a long day in the park. Thank you.

The spot is about 45 minutes away from the park entrance. Accessible, quiet, away from it all. Perfect!

Beautiful area!

This is a great place to Boondock. Very pleasant and friendly owners, generous with water and electricity. Nice, level spot for travel trailer. Beautiful scenery in area, close to Zion National Park and St. George. Good Verizon signal, able to get OTA channels. Wonderful experience!

Great stay great hosts

We enjoyed our stay immensely. Had a good time talking to both of our hosts, very interesting couple. They have a great place in and of it’s self worth visiting. We would definitely stay again where we’re in the area

March 2021

Zion bound

We stayed here on the way to Zion NP. When we arrived no one was home but I figured out where and how to park. Afterward I read the instructions which I should have read first. We received electricity, water and WIFI. MinerBoyd told us about his building project and military career and I thanked him for his service.

This is an awesome place to stay. The hosts are super friendly and helpful. Our power went out on our rig and while we were working on it they were helpful in finding the issue. Beautiful area and the sights are just the dirt reason to stay here. Thank you so much!

February 2021

Zion perfect!

I was lucky enough to get a spot in Zion for one night, but that is not enough to explore. MinerBoyd and his wife graciously made it possible for me to be close to the park despite the major renovation at their home. I had assistance backing in, a pleasant, albeit brief chat, and electricity. There was water for a fill, but I didn't use it. I am grateful for the stay.

February 2021

Good place to land!

I typcially go go go in my sprinter by day and fall over to sleep and repeat- so I just needed a flat place to park and be safe/undisturbed to sleep and hit the trails the next day!

Kind to let me stay thru a home reno. Appreciate the hospitality.

November 2020

Overnight sleep

Just stopped for the night, quiet rural neighborhood. Friendly hosts, met us at the gate to help with parking. Was able to plug in 15 amp service for small fee, and host offered water. About a 45 minute drive to Zion National Park. Hurricane Utah is the closest "large" town.

October 2020

Beautiful surroundings

Doc and I enjoyed our stay and the host was very accommodating and helpful. Where they lived was very beautiful with mountains and a really neat Indian cave. I appreciate the couple letting us stay on their property.

So generous and kind! Incredibly helpful and welcoming. A joy to visit with

We so enjoyed our two night stay here! They treated us like family and rolled out all the stops for our kids giving us a great adventure (: They helped us tour the Indian cave & see the wolves (which is a feat In itself with 3 small kids and my wife pregnant...). He was so helpful & kind, helping carry my kids up the mountain so they could see everything. We all enjoyed our stay. They got a ride in the tractor, they recommended and offered to give us a ride to various local spots and we even got to enjoy their fresh eggs in the morning “you find them, they’re yours” they told us. It was a great treat and experience. Thanks so much Native Cave Dwelling! God bless you and your family

So helpful and friendly... Close to Zion!

Our first time with boondockers welcome and we could not be more pleased with our host. He came out and helped us navigate backing in to his property and was so friendly. He hung out for a little while and talked with us which was wonderful to have some conversation after a full day of driving in the car.

The location is ideal for going to Zion National Park and we definitely would stay there if we were in the area again.
The driveway is difficult to navigate for longer rigs but he is so helpful to guide you in the right way.

Don’t miss everything this place has to offer

Not just a regular place to park.
This location was our first Boondockers.
We wasn’t sure what to expect coming with kids and a dog.
Boyd actually made sure everything is okay with us on our way to him.
He took us for a short hike on his property and told us so many facts about the history of the place.
His neighbor has wolfs on his property and it was so amazing seeing them too.
We are thankful for people like Boyd who are going out of their way to make you feel good about this world.

Thank you for your hospitality and the great experience.

December 2019

First Boondocker

We arrived the day after Christmas. Although MinerBoyd and his wife's family/grandchildren were there, they were both very accommodating and helpful. Due to the snow received the night before, we were unable to park in the designated location. Boyd moved his motorhome and let us park in its place. It is in a very quiet place with a circle driveway. They are a very friendly couple and would stay again if in the area.
