A couple of part-time RV'ers

Super Host

Active Guest

Do you know or have you hosted this user?

My Husband and I love to RV and meet fellow RV'ers. We adore the National Parks and have made 2 three month long cross country trips in the US and shorter trips on the east coast and across eastern Canada including Newfoundland. Loved them all! We're interested in history, culture, good food and meeting local folks.

Skills & Expertise to Share

My husband Ron is an excellent amateur genealogist and history buff and has written several history books. I am an IT consultant and love to figure out how to get the best internet on the road. When we're not traveling, we participate in a community theater group.

Jean+Ron's Pets

We have 2 people-friendly Keeshonds, Zeek & Nellie, both of whom are always leashed.

Favorite Boondocking Locations

We have not done a ton of boondocking, but one of the best was at Joe Skeen BLM campground at El Malpais National Monument (New Mexico). Another nice boondocking location was through Harvest Hosts at Vermillionville outside Lafayette, Louisiana. We have not yet had the pleasure of boondocking with a boondockers welcome host.

Early spring in the Berkshires

There was still a little snow in the woods near the “Beautiful Berkshires” BW site, but the sun was out when we arrived in the early afternoon. Hosts Jean and Ron met us outside their house and helped back our Aliner camper in near their barn. Soon after we got settled, our hosts took us for a walk around part of their 100 acre farm. We could.not help but marvel at the extensive stone walls that Ron had constructed entirely by hand. Then Jean showed us her garden with an incredible irrigation system she designed and built to take advantage of rainwater she collects from the barn’s roof. These are some talented, hardworking people!
Although the night was chilly, we found that our down sleeping bags kept us so warn that we did not need to use our small electric heater we plugged into the 15amp service from the barn. Before retiring, we took a walk into the field behind our camper to gaze up at the stars. Coyotes howling in the distance enhanced the atmosphere. What a start for our visit!
The next morning we took a walk with Ron and his two dogs. We followed the road past a beautiful pond and then up a hill to an old stone foundation. As we walked through the fields, Ron pointed out that differences in stone walls could be a key to determining the age of these monuments to history. It is no wonder he is the author of a book on the history of the centuries old homes in his community.
Needless to say, we had a wonderful experience in the “Beautiful Berkshires.” Thank you so much for a wonderful visit.

Wonderful stay!!

We had such a lovely time at the Beautiful Berkshires! It was our first RV trip after a long, cold winter :-) Our hosts were so warm and generous, and also an incredible wealth of information about the area. We really enjoyed connecting with them and hope we can host them one day! We thoroughly enjoyed our walk to the pond and interacting with our hosts and their dogs and chickens. We hope to be able to visit again!

Couldn't have asked for a better stay!

Jean and Ron were our first hosts after signing up to Boondockers Welcome (and our first time staying in our new RV!) and we could not have had a better experience at their property. I had a hard time finding winter camping options in the area and when I discovered BW and found their property I was thrilled, and boy did they deliver. They were so generous, gifting us eggs from their chickens as well as an RV vent insulator, brochures on local attractions and they let us borrow a cover for our windshield to help keep in extra heat. They were so informative about all things RVing, and gave us a ton of helpful info tips on internet options, winterizing and more. Not to mention their property is absolutely beautiful and made for a magical winter stay, within walking distance to beautiful Berkshire trails, and complete with the perfect dusting of snow. We could not have asked for a better stay. Thank you Jean and Ron for your incredible hospitality!

Gorgeous location, wonderful hosts!

What a lovely spot ..the drive in was like entering a postcard scene of old rolling farmland, deep woods and quiet lakes - the whole place had a stillness to it that was therapeutic. Jean+Ron are gracious and thoughtful, perfect hosts. We hope to get back there again!

Peaceful pleasant property, warm and friendly hosts!

Alice and I chose the beautiful rural and hilly Berkshires region for our test-run of our cargo van which we just finished converting into a camper. Our stay at Jean and Ron's historic property was our first boondockers welcome experience as well! What a great experience this was for us! It's a wonderful place for stargazing and enjoying the peace and quiet, with a short drive to places like Great Barrington and Stockbridge. Jean and Ron welcomed us with a social-distanced tour (due to the pandemic) of their property including the nice level rock walls, pond and waterfall constructed by Ron and gardens and clever watering system constructed by Jean. We parked our 18-foot van across the street next to the barn and plugged into their 15-amp circuit so that we could run our small 750/1500-watt heater on this chilly mid-November weekend. We recommend staying here if you love the outdoors.

Perfect Host, Perfect Property

This was a wonderful stay at a beautiful country property with hosts who could not have been better! They gifted us with vegetables from their garden and eggs from their hens and offered to let us pick from the garden if we wanted to. While there we saw wild turkeys, a coyote, numerous chipmunks and squirrels, and other wildlife. We heard owls at night. We launched our canoe in the beautiful pond less than a mile from the house and caught three species of fish there. Every evening our hosts would come over for socially distanced cocktails and terrific conversation, and they wore masks as necessary. It could not have been a better experience.

Beautiful Berkshires is right!

Unfortunately, due to a slight emergency we had to leave early and did not have the opportunity to talk to Jean and Ron more and explore the grounds, but the time we did get to spend with Jean and Ron was great! Obviously very knowledgeable people with a great location to boondock. You will not be bothered and have lots of privacy!

Warm, Friendly and VERY interesting Hosts

Our Hosts were amazing! They have a beautiful home and grounds, which they graciously gave us a tour of! They even shared some of their harvest with us , from their amazing garden! Our “ camping spot” was perfect and level and they offered us water for our rig. And to top off this wonderful experience, She took us to see the Comet that won’t be visible again for another 6000+ years! We so enjoyed meeting them and would absolutely recommend these hosts to anyone who wants a really nice experience!!! Grade A Plus!

great hosts

Very kind people at a beautiful spot. I took an after-dinner walk with my dog up the road and the dappled light was spectacular. It was a wonderful stop-over for me.

Historical Values

A very informative stay. Got to read some history on the area. Are wonderful hosts give us a bunch of literature on different places Across America to help us get Amalgamated to the United States. It rained a lot while we were here so we were unable to do a lot of checking out the sights that's a very beautiful area and we would like to come back here someday thank you again to our house for a wonderful day.
