We are a small working sheep farm. We also have professional jobs (which support the farm). Since this is a working farm, it isn't always beautiful. There are machines, fire wood, compost, chickens running about, and sheep bawling for food. It is a lovely place with great views of Mt. Hood and the stars at night. This region is often windy, hot, dry and brown in the summer. Great during the fall and spring. Cold and snowy during the winter months. We border the Warm Springs Reservation to the south, Mt. Hood National Forest to the west, White River Game Management to the north, and the scenic Deschutes River to the east. There are numerous hiking trails within a 30 minute drive. Shearers Falls and White River Falls are local attractions. The community of Maupin is small and quaint. There are opportunities to hunt and fish in the area if desired. We are 40 minutes from winter skiing on Mt. Hood. We also run a seasonal BBQ catering business. If we know ahead of time, we can plan to cook up a BBQ spread to share.
BBQ... What else needs to be said.
We currently have 5 well mannered dogs. 3 are Australian Cattle Dogs. They will greet you when you arrive. Bark a bit, run around your vehicle, and wait for you to toss the ball. Do not be afraid. They are all friendly. The other 2 are older (ACD and German shorthair). You may or may not see them during your stay.
We also have 2 cats. Both are indoor/outdoor. You may or may not see them while you are here.
We currently reside 15 miles west of Maupin Oregon.
We sneaked in on a late request and really appreciated our host’s accommodation! He welcomed us, made sure we had everything we needed and we had a lovely evening on the farm. We would certainly stay here again!
Shorttail Farms hosts were just so welcoming and helpful. We enjoyed our two nights at their lovely BW location.
It was fun to visit and learn all about their sheep, dogs, and other assorted critters!
We hope to visit again sometime soon for a quick get away!
We had lovely two night stay at Shorttail ranch. The view of Mt. Hood from the high plains is really wonderful. We received a warm welcome and general overview from the two and four-legged residents alike. It was fun to see what two very industrious people can do with a piece of land- chickens, sheep, horses, wood milling, gardening. We enjoyed a gorgeous night sky and clear mornings- the roosters made sure of that:) We would definitely return. Thanks A and C
We only stayed for one night, but it was a great one night. Our host was very informative about everything in the area as well as everything related to the farm. I am sure we will be coming back in the future.
We had a wonderful stay at a sheep farm with all sorts of other animals to keep the kids entertained. We were also able to fish in his pond. The hosts were very kind and welcoming from the moment we pulled in. Make sure to take advantage of his well water, which was the best tasting water we have had during our entire 3 month trip!
The host's were wonderful!! Andrew was waiting for us to direct us to were to park. A nice level gravel spot. Got to see the Sheep and hold the Rooster "Mike". They have horses too, who wanted attention as well. We left with fresh eggs, a Lamb shank and some Elk Sausage. They provided a 20amp plug in which we really didn't need as we have a generator. But it was appreciated. Lots of stars to see at night. And the sunrise was beautiful. Thank you for your grate hospitality!!
I was fortunate to spend two beautiful nights at ShortTail Farms while traveling around Mt Hood National Forest. They directed me to a partly shaded spot near the pond/barn where they have water and 15amp electric, which was perfect since I needed to catch-up on a lot of online work and was having generator issues. The farm reflects the hosts' devotion to the land and livestock and I enjoyed the opportunity to watch the sheep and chickens, play fetch with the dogs and enjoy the sun setting over the Cascade Range!
We stayed here for two evenings while traveling through the area. The host was wonderful even though they had a busy weekend & even mapped us in the direction of a local river to swim in for the afternoon. Highly recommend & would enjoy returning if ever back this way.
From the very moment I booked our stay Andrew was great with communicating with me. When he learned that it would be my husband’s birthday the second day of our stay he offered to cook a bbq dinner for us. He made us feel welcome from the moment we arrived and was great with our dog who helped herself to his property and playing with his wonderful dogs. Andrew even checked-in on our dog while we were running errands in town. We were encouraged to make ourselves comfortable and at home and we absolutely did! The bbq that he prepared was TO DIE FOR! His wife Kris was great to talk to for an evening and we left with 2 dozen fresh eggs. I can’t wait to go back and spend more time at this wonderful place. I could go on and on about our wonderful experience.
Would definitely return! We were able to park on a pretty level area, the night was quiet, the hosts were very friendly and very easy to get along with, even with very curious kids asking questions. The kids loved to see all the animals, our daughter loved to hold Mike (the chicken). If back in the area, this will probably be our first pick.
What a treat... memorable sunsets with fantastic and ever changing mountain views surrounded by herds of livestock on flat, open pastures. I wont soon forget it.
Andrew was the perfect host. We can't wait to cook the lamb and venison we purchased from him. Awesome views to Mt Hood and a short drive to Maupin. Cheers!
Very nice site, well prepared and very nice host. Andrew was very helpful with everything including where to go. He’s got great BBQ and fresh eggs. Thank you Andrew
Place is good, host is nice!
Andrew is someone I would like to have more time chatting with. Very friendly and interesting.
Lots of animal on the farm. We even had the chance to feed sheep. Fun moments!
Had a wonderful stay. It was nice to get out into the country.
