A disabled Vietnam veteran I spent the last 15 years working as an eco-tour and adventure guide, tribal-ranger and teaching rock climbing and outdoor crafts in the Sonora and Mojave deserts in Calif and AZ. I attended the U of N. Wales in the U.K. and worked in hi-voltage and power generation until 1993 then spent a short time working for an outfit building MotHomes power control systems. If you are into ham radio my call sign is KE6GMD.
For fun I used to climb rock, hike, sail boats and build and fix things and was involved with SAR. In 2006 I was further disabled that put me permanently out of work. Three years ago I was given a border collie pup have trained as service dog. A border collie named Jin he assists with my disability. I'm considered a fairly good dog trainer and now advocate for proper dog training and for the access rights of the disabled and their dogs.
We can be found on FB at the Adventures of Ranger and Jin.
If your into hiking and outdoor crafts there is the Desert Bandanna, my survival book printed on muslin. www.desertbandanna.com and it's attached blog at http://derangersteve.blogspot.com/.
I've always been called overqualified when I list my skills. If it involves tools I can probably fix it. Given raw materials and a properly equipped shop I can pretty much make what you want out of plastic, metals, wood or composites. Cars, trucks, electrical systems, electronics, computers, home and car entertainment. All the same whether it floats, flies or is pulled by a truck.
I've also taught classes in a wide variety of subjects from computer science to outdoor crafts and survival. As a guide I've been known to spin a good yarn around a campfire about the history of the American Desert Southwest.
This is all new to me so I don't have any yet However if I were to recommend a place or two it would have to be in Joshua Tree National Park or somewhere near Kelso, CA in the Mojave Preserve.
At the moment all there is is a 2012 31ft Heartland North Country. No truck yet. Makes it hard to boondock but I shall get there. It has 2 slide outs aft, 1 on each side. Funky decorations, not not yet but inside a state of the art communications stations is coming into being along with a Linux based mobile cloud for home theater. It's still brand new, give me some time, I'll get it teched out and maybe a little steam punk as well. Security by Smith and Wesson. Sorry no photos yet.
