We owned and operated our HVAC contracting company for nearly 30 years in Modesto, CA. We both worked for the Stanislaus Sheriff's Office in Modesto, CA. We also actively manage our 21 acre ranch, where we used to raise cattle and horses and goats. We have recently leased part of the ranch pasture to a professional farmer raising walnut trees. Now we are retired and like to travel in our 40 ft. diesel Safari RV. We are politically conservative.
We have four homes on our ranch - we live in one and friends are tenants in the other three. We are members of the Modesto CA Elks Lodge #1282 and when we travel we often camp with RV friendly Elks Lodges. We're very active members of RVillage.com and manage a group there for Elks Lodges that are RV friendly.
Mike is very knowledgeable about the mechanical and electrical systems of RVs, including a thorough knowledge of electronics and controls.
Donna did rodeo photography inside the rodeo arena for 20 years, but no longer is active in photography except as a hobby.
We are both very computer savvy and enjoy using our computer skills to manage our financial lives, and to navigate when we travel.
There are six ranch cats - two also are house pets when we're home. The others are recently two arrived feral cats, with two that were born here last year before we could catch the mom to get her spayed. All are now neutered/spayed and are friendly.
We used to travel with our dog and cat - but no longer have those and haven't replaced them at this time with another traveling dog or cat. We have one tenant who has a small Dachshund dog who stays in the house and yard - no dogs are allowed to roam freely on the ranch.
We don't have any yet - we are having a complete solar system installed on our motor home in May of 2019 to enable us to spend more time boondocking. We did spend about three weeks boondocking about 20 miles east of Quartzsite AZ in January 2019 and enjoyed it so much we decided to invest in a real solar system.
Oakdale, CA. Oakdale is a very western town, that hosts a PRCA rodeo each spring. Oakdale is known as "the Cowboy Capital of the World". We are located about 80 miles west of Yosemite National Park, and about 30 miles from the Gold Country pioneer towns along the Sierra Nevada mountains. Woodward Reservoir is a public lake located about ten miles from Oakdale. We are about 12 miles from the much larger city of Modesto, CA, with around 200,000 population. Sacramento CA is about 80 miles north of us. There are many local wineries within an hour's drive.
Our motor home is a 40 ft diesel pusher Safari / Beaver that we bought new in 2002. We have two 18" slides on the driver side. We are fully self contained and are adding a complete solar system in May 2019. We have a mid-entry door. We tow a 2017 Jeep Grand Cherokee Overland.
What wonderful hosts at the Wagner Farm, they made me feel at home and I believe we became friends during my stay. They have an amazing farm with places to walk around and enjoy the wildlife living around the area.
Will definitely visit again!
Flat gravel spot with full hookups in California farmlands. What could be better? Gracious hosts. We didn’t spend much time with Oakdale Farm, but they made us feel very welcome.
What hospitable hosts! It is like being in Heaven on earth! Just beautiful landscape!
We had just done 3 nights of dry camping in Yosemite and this was a great place to get reorganized. Couldn’t have asked for more!
What a delightful stay at Wagner Farm. Mike and Donna were awesome hosts. Loved the full hookups. Will definitely stop here again if ever in the area. Thank you Mike and Donna for opening your great space to others.
Boondockers Welcome seems to attract some of the best people and the folks from Wagner Farm are no exception. It was raining when we arrived but our hosts still came out to greet us and be sure we settled in. The following morning was beautiful and we had a delightful visit on their covered patio. What a lovely farm. What wonderful, kind, and bright people! We felt like we'd made new friends and hope to be able to visit with them again some day.
Our hosts were warm wonderful folk, attentive to every detail!
This stay was perfect. They responded fast and were accomodating of our inexact arrival time.
We were met upon arrival and ensured that we had everything we needed. Including power and water! And even helped me out with some tools.
The couple was super nice and i wish we got to chat some more during our stay.
We visited yosemite from their spot.
If we are ever in the area again we will definitely stay again!
The owners are wonderful people, helpful, knowledgable, and genuinely nice to be around. I would stop in here anytime I was in the area.
We have to thank our wonderful and kind host for this unforgettable stay during which we've got the chance to also meet their fantastic neighbours around a nice evening fire. We've had very interrresting conversations and D and M had a lot of good and useful advices for our RV trip in US as they are active RViers themselves.
Wagner farm is a peaceful place to stay and our kids had a lot of fun playing with their neighbour's 2 kids, hiking around the property and petting the barn cat!
We really hope to get the chance to see D and M again, maybe on our trip in US or anywhere else!
Highly recommend this place.
Staying at Oakdale Farm was an incredible experience! This was our first time using Boondockers Welcome, and boy, did Oakdale Farm set the bar high. Both hosts are warm, friendly and know exactly what you need to have a comfortable stay. They are truly some of the kindest people we've ever met and we can't wait to get back on their BEAUTIFUL property. It's been weeks since we were there and we still can't stop talking about it. THANK YOU!
Our hosts were so welcoming and their farm is charming. There are several neighbors in the area and all were polite and friendly. We enjoyed seeing the horses and watching all the hummingbirds.
Donna and Mike are superior citizens and we enjoyed visiting with them on a wide variety of topics. They were completely there for us, but were not at all intrusive. They greeted us, helped us get settled and then left us alone. They also let us know they had evening gatherings that we were welcome to attend or not. To me it was the perfect blend of friendly, not nosey.
Our parking spot faced North which was perfect for us to leave our front window open yet still have privacy. We weren't crowded in the area at all, but it was nice to have a separate spot between a backyard and shop. The grounds were colorful and there were parklike seating areas so enjoy the sunsets.
This was our first boondocks welcome experience, and we couldn't have been more pleased.
Mike and Donna have a wonderful place to stay and are very accommodating and helpful. A nicer couple and place to stop you will not find.
My husband and I stayed at Wagner Farm for 2 nights on our way to San Francisco from the Yosemite area. The Wagners are wonderful hosts and we thoroughly enjoyed our time spent with them. We were taking advantage of a couple of days to rest before continuing our journey so we didn't get to see the surrounding area as much as we would have liked. We will DEFINITELY be back to this location whenever we are in the area again. It is a very peaceful environment but close enough to the major stores if needed. Having 50 amp electric, water, and a sewer connection was a very nice bonus as well. Don't miss stopping at this fabulous location and meeting these wonderful people!
I can't say enough nice things about this Host, both husband and wife are wonderful people and they have a wonderful spot to stay. Easy to get into with all the hookups a person could need. If you just need a place to park for the night that's ok too. It's in the country, just out of town. They are avid RV'ers themselves so they know what you need yet allow you your privacy too. Perfect place to stay, I will contact them again when I'm in this area.
