We love to camp and also love our toys - Motorcycles, UTV and Pontoon boat. We've been RVing for many years and currently own a diesel pusher. We love to camp locally or travel around the beautiful US. We own a business, so we work hard and love our free time. It was a joke at first when our cousin wanted to camp at our house before any of the campgrounds were open in the Spring. We installed 30 amp service. and we started calling it Honest Dave's Campground. We have a beautiful site in the woods, but not far from the highway and town. We also have another site available on Lake Wausau that we lovingly call our Honest Dave's North Campground and Marina. It's a beautiful little spot right on the lake in the middle of town. We like to refer to it as Urban Glamping.
We can tell you anything you want to know about insurance. We know a lot about motorhomes. Love to cook and putter with tools and fixing things.
Not Currently, But we love animals
Walmart, friend's driveways, travel centers
Our home town is Schofield, WI which is near Wausau. Dave grew up in Wausau and Terri is originally from Racine, WI.
2006 Monaco Diplomat Class A Diesel pusher, with 4 slides, 41 feet long. Also usually either tow our Jeep Grand Cherokee Overland or trailer with our Harleys. We are big Green Bay Packer fans, but we love all football teams.
Honest Dave’s was the perfect overnight stay for our trip across Wisconsin!! It’s conveniently located of Hwy 29 and a beautiful quiet location!!
The property is so very easy to get to; still close enough to freeway access; and very, very quiet. Do make contact with the Host in advance of arrival. There is nowhere to park directly in the roadway in front of the Host’s home. Both sides of the roadway have drop offs. Pulling into the drive is an easy answer. In between light traffic, we backed into the driveway nearest the roadway with our long, 42’ rig and called the Host to make final arrangements. Had we pulled in facing forward, it could have been tricky to back out in to the semi-busy street. The Host met us right away.
The Hosts are super friendly and like to talk and get to know you. We appreciated that. Often times, we never meet with a Host. He offered for us to stay at his house in the driveway (asphalt) or beside the garage (gravel). Both locations could have offered a 30A electric connection if we needed it. Either location there would have been just fine for us. They are in the trees. Its fall and beautiful. He also offered an alternate location which is where we stayed. A vacant neighborhood lot (adjacent - a place of open grass areas and trees). The Host indicated that we were the first to use this area. It’s a beautiful lawn and we really hated to cause any issue with ruts. Our rig is especially heavy. There had been some fairly recent rains. Therefore, we parked just off the street and no further. If the Host allows a continuation of this site, lighter rigs would be better or drier days would certainly help if larger rigs are allowed to stay here. This site is particularly helpful to those who do use solar. Our rig had an east/west orientation. Just perfect for solar applications. There are no utilities at this particular site. If you watch TV, there are multiple channels available. Just go on the web (Antennaweb.org ) and plug in the address. For city amenity access, its just a short 7 minute drive north to grocery stores, restaurants, gas stations, hardware stores (and the DW's favorite, Goodwill! She likes to plunder).
The hosts offered suggestions for local attractions and restaurants. They are very accommodating and checked with us to make sure we had everything we needed. We had discussions on multiple latest topics. It was just great conversation. We also met their other family members and neighbors that lived close by. The entire family and neighbors are wonderful. During the evening, there are deer. In the morning, one will likely see lots of wild turkeys. We certainly did.
To the Hosts, we greatly (with emphasis) appreciate the opportunity to stay. With permission, we would certainly stay here again. We hope to stay in contact with them. They are great people.
Honest Dave and his family were very hospitable. They helped us get parked next to the garage. Their property was beautiful, wooded, and quiet. We had a lovely visit in the morning. There was a nice park- Gaska Park - nearby for hiking and biking. Thanks for the stay!
Our first Boondockers Welcome experience with Honest Dave and his wife was amazing. Such a friendly couple to sit and chat with. We only got to spend one night on their property because we're on a tight schedule but would love to return to spend more time there. They offered electricity however, we didn't need it for the one overnight and they temperature outside was cool so no need to run the AC. Beautiful quiet homestead. Thank you Dave and T for making our first BW welcoming!
Was a very nice couple, would go back. They gave us nice list of Rest. in the area, for diner. Found a nice rest. Short dist. away.
This was our first boondocker stay through the site. Honest Dave and his wife are great hosts. Very accomodating and great to talk with. Thier location is set up for rigs big and small. It is very peaceful with alot of trees and is a good distance from the street. There are plenty of things to see and do in the area. Thank you for the wonderful experience!
Great place and Dave was very helpful plenty of room for our 39' class A.
Warmth, witty humor, and great conversation were found here. High quality location - very safe neighborhood that is near all amenities, and within a few hours’ drive of backwoods nature activities and major cities both. Be sure to download offline maps, since service is extremely spotty in this region. This family was so much fun to stay with, and I really enjoyed getting to know the whole gang. I hope our paths cross again soon!
We had a great stay at Honest Dave's. They made us feel so welcomed, and were concerned for any need we might have. Really enjoyed visiting with them and making connections about friends and family in the area.
This was such a great stay. It was so easy to find, make a wide turn entering the long paved driveway, with plenty of room to disconnect and turn around. Our hosts met us and directed us to the hard packed site with plenty of privacy next to the mammoth garage. Water and 30 amp hookups are available and offered, however we did not need them. Our little four legged kids enjoyed the spacious yard. Our hosts were so friendly and welcoming, I can't believe how little traffic they have gotten given how boondocker friendly they are. We have a 40' Class A Motorhome and had no problem. The site can easily accommodate a larger rig. Honest Dave leaves his phone behind sometimes, but he will get back to you, so give him some notice if you can.
We had such a wonderful time at Honest Dave’s. Honestly! Aside from the fact that the parking spot, water and power were all super easy to reach, our hosts made it feel more like we were visiting with family than staying with strangers. Thanks, gang. Can’t wait to see you all again soon!
