I have a college degree in engineering and have worked for Intel. I tried to retire, but found out I do best by keeping busy. I drive a school bus here in Tampa and we travel when school is out. Wife and I have two small dogs, Cairn Terriers (Toto from the Wizard of Oz) In the last 3 years we have traveled to Nova Scotia, Yellowstone, and California, from Florida. We enjoy playing tennis, bridge along with camping. Family is quite important to us.
The Skyway Bridge in St. Petersburg is our favorite boondocking location. Eventhough it is parked NOP, I have talked with the park ranger, State Patrol, Rest Area cleanup people and they all say stay as long as you want. This is one of the best kept secrets in Tampa area. Beautiful sunset. The best place we found out after staying weeks over there is the access road to the south fishing pier just before you get to the guard gate where they charge you for going on the fishing pier. You can not take a camper on the Fishing Pier, but it is ok to park before you get there. We also have parked on the northwest side but prefer the southwest side of the bridge. We are usually parked in a group of palms. Gets a bit noisy from the traffic, but you can fisth, let the dogs out, and enjoy the sunset. We go quite frequiently and nver have a problem.
Here is a picture of us camping at the Skyway Bridge. We just a 15 Aliner with hard sides. The things we like about it. Sets up in less than 2 minutes and easy to pull. We travel so much, like 8000 miles this past summer, gas mileage is a concern. It is a 2004 model and just as plain as we can make it. We are like a turtle, carring our home with us. It provides a place to rest our weary head when traveling.
