In November 2018 I retired (by choice) from public office after 12 years of service. I enjoy everything outdoors from bird watching to fishing and hunting. I am also very handy in the kitchen and often get requests for my home made buttermilk biscuits or oatmeal pecan cookies. My wife, Devon, has been a home builder for over 20 years. Devon is involved with several Native Plant Societies in the southeast. She's an avid hiker and occasional backpacker. Her current/last home building project will be finished in May 2019 which will allow us to become true RVers. Our son lives in California and is currently a professional climbing guide in Yosemite National Park. Our daughter is a geologist in New Zealand.
We have AWESOME kids!
Being a home builder Devon can make or fix almost anything related to construction. She is also very knowledgeable in native plants and creating backyard environments to attract, birds, pollinators and wildlife.
Being a native I have knowledge of people, reputable vendors, places to visit, local events, and have published a book about the first mountain I climbed after a freak accident 24 years ago which resulted in a spinal cord injury.
But mostly, I am a good listener. :)
Penny, our dog, is a Black Mouth Cur which is not a breed recognized by kennel clubs. In other words, Penny is a cow dog coming from many generations of dogs bred to herd cows. She is four years old, short haired, weighs 58 pounds. In our quest to buy a motor home we have rented both a class A and C. We were concerned as to how Penny would travel and adjust to being on a leash as she has had full range of our property. She traveled like a trooper... we are her pack.
We are not new to camping, but have never boondocked. While raising our children, family vacations seldom included a hotel. We have developed a deep appreciation for the benefits provided by being outdoors. Through the years some of the nicest people we have met have been in campgrounds.
We are native Floridians and currently live in Plant City, FL which is just east of Tampa. Devon was born and raised in Hialeah, FL and I'm a 5th generation resident of Plant City. We know the area and if needed can point our guest in the right direction for interesting sites and great places to eat. However we plan to travel extensively beginning sometime in 2019 so home will be where the RV is.

We truly enjoyed our visit at Al and Devon’s. Very nice and hospitable hosts! We wish them the best on their future endeavors. We hope we meet again!
Beautiful countryside to spend the evening. Highly recommend visiting the Strawberry Festival in March.
Al and Devon were the perfect hosts to our little family! When we arrived, they both came out to greet us and show us where we could park. Once we were parked they have us space to get settled and came back later to chat some. Our daughter loved talking to Al, and our dog Harley loved running around with their Penny! We can’t thank them enough for opening their home to us, and we hope to run into each other on the road!
We loved staying here, especially the sweet dog who kept us company during the day and joined us while walking over their property. Would definitely stay again.
We had 2 wonderful nights on the beautiful place from Devon and Al. Had lovely talkings about our trip and RV. Hope the information we give to them they can use for making a decision about their own RV. Their dog is so nice with a lot of energie. They are Very good Boondockers and hope they can do it by theirselves once. Hope to meet then again on a next trip somewhere in the USA. Ps; your biscuits were amazing!! Thanks guys!
