Laura and I run a family farm on the Illinois/ Wisconsin border.
We have one camper on a semi-permanent site here on the farm and one for our travels. We are making plans to go full time in 2025, if not before.
Life is changing for us, we are getting ready to retire and enjoy life. After years without a day off we are now shutting down the farm and making time for US. We take classes of various interesting subjects, short road trips, weekend camping, local events or even just an afternoon nearby on the Sugar river in the kayaks.
We look forward to hearing your experiences camping/RV living and enjoying life.
Farming?? lol. Farming includes being a jack of all trades. Just ask!
We are new to enjoying life and would love to hear your experiences. I am a retired firefighter/medic/fire inspector, truck driver, building inspector, ran a landscape company for decades, former youth pastor, Amateur radio operator and have been farming for 15 years now...yep jack of ALL trades! I may be able to help with tools ladders or whatever for minor repairs.
Laura has been a food chemist, expert horse trainer, has trained show dogs and is a great cook.
We have a livestock driver (boxer x Corgi) along with a herder (border collie) that double as pets. These two may travel with us.
Protecting hundreds of sheep, goats, (more pets) and cows (almost pets) we have a large pack of LGDs that do a wonderful job keeping the predators away. Although none of these would travel with us as they stay back and keep the farm safe.
However what brought us here was a trip spent a using an old 5er out behind a barn of a couple we met in Door county Wi. They were very gracious by allowing us to use their old camper as our base camp. It was the one and only trip we have had in many years and due to their cherished gift we enjoyed our time away.
We always had the desire of returning the opportunity to others but didn't have any way... before now.. this makes it possible TY, this is us "paying it back", enjoy.
Avon, Wi (nothing there except the Sugar river) and Durand, Il Beloit, Rockford, Freeport, Il and Madison, wi, are all nearby,
Our first night with "boondockers welcome" was a wonderful! Our host came to greet us just a couple minutes after we pulled in - he was very welcoming and friendly and made sure we didn't need anything. We loved all his dogs! It was a nice level spot and easy to pull into. Very peaceful and quiet - slept with the window open to listen to the country nighttime sounds. We slept great! Ready to experience another boondockers welcome!
Great country farm location! Extremely quiet. You'll enjoy the country air.
Hosts are very busy with farm work but found time to meet and talk with us. Great, friendly and outgoing. Very generous and helpful folks. Another BW person on site. Lots of separation during Covid. No utilities at site but great solar potential for those with solar systems. Roads are gravel but solid. If you watch TV, there are multiple channels available. Just go on the web (Antennaweb.org ) and plug in the address. Or just point your antenna to 355.0° for a lot of channels.
Extremely quiet. Livestock on property but not in proximity to your rig. There is fence separation. There are also woodpeckers, coyotes and bald eagles also in the area. Kinda cool to watch! There is also a nearby river for kayaking. Rockford, Ill is within 30 minutes for supplies and restaurants. There are several sites. All seem to be close to level. Our rig is 42' long and 20,000 lbs. With dry weather, any space on site would be easy to get into. With larger rigs, (especially in wet weather) it may require backing to your site from the main road. No trees, so its easy backing.
With the Hosts OK, we would stay here again. Thank you for the stay opportunity!
We really loved it here at the farm. It is so beautiful and peaceful out here. The animals are so fun to watch. And most of all, the host is so generous and we ennoyed getting to chat with him. We appreciate very much getting to stay on his land! Thanks for a great weekend!
What a beautiful place, and awesome hosts ! Beauty and serenity abound on this quiet, lovely farm. Be greeted by cows, sheep, goats and a hard working pack of gorgeous Great Pyrenees dogs.Buck is my favorite 😊) Our hosts were by far the BEST part of our stay, warm, welcoming, and a pleasure to spend time with. We throughly enjoyed every minute of our stay😁 THANK YOU, THANK YOU, THANK YOU !....till we meet again !
Thank you Dennis!!
This was our first time camping with the tt, and it couldn’t be any better. We loved meeting and chatting with Dennis. The beauty of the nature, peacefulness and the farm feel were great. We had a special weather with double rainbows, rain and sunshine while we were taking care of two tiny ducklings that were abounded during one of the best sunsets.
Thanks for sharing your time, helping us back in and hosting us Dennis! I’m looking forward to paddling the river with you.
I enjoyed my stay at Dennis Ranch. He was very accommodating and helpful. I appreciate him letting me stay on his property.
Grand View Acres was so peaceful and quiet, the cows gentle mooing was not even bothersome. Since this was a last minute, in and out, we were so grateful for the hosts' accommodating nature! Their messages were filled with great and interesting information, will absolutely be back!
The most hard working family I've met. They go above and beyond to help their guests. Their farm is so beautiful, the best views on the hill here 😍. Favorite Boondock ❤
I can not speak more highly then this family. Waking up to the the most beautiful sunsrises, and Watching the sunsets in different colors! I was able to learn a bit more about the farm, and how much (blood, sweat, and tears) work truly goes into having such a gorgeous farm. I love meeting all the animals, and of course getting to know the family that makes everything possible. Can't wait to go back someday soon.
This member is beyond generous and kind. They (husband and wife) always go above and beyond to try to help me out. This place is my favorite 😍 stay! It has wonderful people and animals to get to know.
I fell in love with this campsite the very first day. The hosts are accommodating and respectful. They are the most hardworking people I've met. Our host even shared the birth of a calf while we were there. They treat you as if you were family. I'd definitely go back, or recommend anyone to come stop by!
Host and dogs were very welcoming, even to our energetic pup. Our meeting was pleasant and educational. We learned much about the realities of farm life. We enjoyed a very relaxing evening looking over beautiful farmlands. Thank you for making our first BW experience a good one.
Stayed one night, pretty green pastures. Level rock pad. Black white cow slept next to us in the grass, think it liked wind break we provided. Working farm so not much time for visiting, very nice couple. Dogs were cute, warmed up to us quickly.
We had a wonderful time at Grand View. Quiet, peaceful, and as the name suggests, great views. They have lots of animals, space and super friendly. I highly recommend this location is getting away from it all is one of your criteria.
Fantastic! We needed a place to stay at the last minute, and they were very responsive and generous. Their property is beautiful and we really got away from it all—very few if any traffic sounds.
We had our dog with us and they did a great job of explaining what was needed with his dogs to make it a good experience for all of us. We also enjoyed the conversation with them and learning about the property and sheep/cow/goat raising. I found this to be a lovely first time experience Boondockingwelcome, and I’m excited to visit more places because of this experience.
Nice location. We had a peaceful stay at Grand View Acres. The hosts were inviting and super-friendly.
This place hit home for me. When I first heard the term "boondocking”, this is exactly how I pictured it: beautiful landscape and calming sunsets, behaved animals and relaxing sounds of nature, friendly and helpful hosts, level/dry ground, safe property, and all-around easy stay. Hosts like this make boondockerswelcome.com a success. I wish I could have stayed longer!
If you are even remotely in their area, do yourself a favor: request a stay here. After a year full timing, this experience easily hit my “top 3” list of great boondocking locations in the USA. We sincerely hope to cross paths again.
We spent two nights, the farm is very pretty with grazing animals and green rolling hills. Dennis & Laura were friendly and invited us to a cookout one evening.
We had a great stay on Dennis and Laura's farm. They let us stay right on their long driveway to avoid the soggy ground. Dennis and Laura were very friendly and a wealth of knowledge about farm life. We enjoyed having BBQ with them and getting to know them.
