Retired finance and accounting manager for a large commercial real estate developer in Houston, Texas. My wife, a retired teacher aid and substitute teacher, and I have a Lance travel trailer and enjoy taking a long trip every year.
I have some woodworking skills and equipment. I used to fly fish and collect rare coins. I also enjoy birding and I feed wild birds and host purple martins and bluebirds.
We have one miniature poodle.

Great location, company and hospitality! Thank you so much!
Beautiful spot and very gracious hosts. Quiet and at night you can see millions of stars. Lots of birds also. Saw huge flock of robins.
Suck a great place to rest and get some fresh air. We had so much fun exploring the cute towns surrounding it too. We didn't want to leave.
This is a perfectly central location for anyone who wants to be able to explore Houston, Austin, and Dallas over a short stay. And at night, the sky is lot up by stars. Our friendly hosts helped walk us through the best arrival approach and have guidance on where the best place was to restock our fridge once we were here.
Thank you for being so great.
Our host was so generous and relaxing to be around. We stood around for a while and looked at the birds in the morning. We were so glad to stop there and enjoy hospitality.
Very simple and kind old man. I was fortunate to meet Dibi. He and his wife are very good old people. I like this place very much. It is very quiet and has a good experience. I will definitely find time to come back here again, thank the landlord.
The property was amazing and the hosts helped me back into my spot and get situated. I was really impressed by the bird feeders and gourds that are set up for the purple Martin birds. It was nice learning about them...They even have a really cute sign located when pulling in, that says “purple Martian sanctuary”. I enjoyed looking at the stars, because the amount you can see out there is breath taking! This was by far one of my favorite boondockerswelcome stops. I hope to one day visit again. A+
We were welcomed wholeheartedly. The hosts we’re good to us and gave us of ideas of things that we could do in the different areas around them. Country living is a very quiet way of camping.
We highly rate this host. They welcomed us and were very sociable. They went above and beyond to make sure we were comfortable. They are a little bit out in the country, but it is well worth it as you will have a quiet stay. They gave us ideas of things that we could do in the surrounding areas and was very helpful.
We were warmly welcomed by our hosts. They have a beautiful location with electric and water available. Wish we could have stayed longer. Sorry this review is late.
If you're looking for some peace and quiet this is the place! A little off the beaten path, but well worth the somewhat bumpy drive. Enjoyed our evening sipping tea in the rockers on the patio! Very accommodating hosts.
They were very welcoming hosts and enjoyable to talk to. He consistently checked in with us to see if there was any way they could help or get us more settled in. It was peaceful to walk around on their property and, of course, see the dozens of interesting birds gathered at their bird feeders.
We hope to be able to come and see them again!
D&G were great hosts and the ranch is perfect for unplugging for a while. I hiked trails for hours and fell in love with the place! Great conversations and a tour of the place. They offered to let me plug in to power and had me park under a cover so my rig was sheltered from the storm. No WiFi and my T-Mobile/metro pcs phone doesn’t work here but it was good to “unplug and reset” I hope to come back next time I’m in the area.
I have nothing but wonderful things to say about RDirby and his wife. They provided us with a beautiful and quiet place to stay for the evening. The property has lots of birds and other wildlife, views of the evening sky, and great company. RDirby was kind enough to spend some time and chat with us about his Purple Martins and recommend some great places for us to check out in Texas.
We wish we could have spent another night, and we hope to see them again when we pass through Texas again.
The Ranch is an amazing place to stay located out in the country. There are several beautiful spots on the property. If you like nature, this is your place. They have various bird feeders and houses throughout the property. We saw so many colorful, unique birds. The night sky is gorgeous and the lack of light pollution allows you to see all the stars; it was amazing. It's a peaceful, quiet place with enough space for your dogs to run all day.
I can't say enough good things about the owners. They are very kind and welcoming. They have an amazing setup that makes the experience worth the short distance from the highway. You definitely need to stay here if you are near the area. We'll definitely be coming back!
We loved our stay at the Ranch! Hosts were kind and welcoming and everyone loved their pup!
Location is off the beaten path and we saw raccoons and deer during our stay. We heard coyotes, but did not see them. We loved the peace and quiet!
We ventured into Austin for a day (about 90 mins away) and enjoyed seeing the city.
Thanks so much for your hospitality!!
We have greatly enjoyed this location and conversation with the hosts. We look forward to the possability of visiting again if coming to this area.
I absolutely love this location and I really enjoyed spending time with the hosts. They are wonderful people and fun to be around. I liked it so much here that I ended up staying a lot longer than I had booked for. Extremely quiet at night and very comfortable. The property is amazing and I had lots of fun exploring it. Fabulous sunsets and lots of birds. Sound good? I definitely recommend staying here. I'm positive everyone would love it as much as i did. I look forward to staying here again sometime in the future.
Enjoyed visiting.. spot was perfect, both hosts were great
The roads in are quite challenging but well worth it. Doug and Geneva are wonderful and engaging folks. There property is amazing with many innovative systems. They sit on over 300 acres with many birds, deer, etc. Plan to spend more than one night... you will enjoy the conversation and the anecdotes of American history. The ultimate boondocking relaxing spot!
Very nice couple. Nice place to stay it's very quiet and secluded. The nights are amazing with all the stars. The host was very kind and even helped me with the proper steps to setting up. We had some great conversations. I would highly recommend staying here. I will for sure be back next time I'm in the area.
This place is amazing! So spacious and beautiful! Doug and Genevieve are a living example of proof that there still is kindness in the world. If you want peace away from everything, you’ve found it.
Just wanted to shout out to My Hosts with a Big Texas Thank You for the hospitality and the opportunity to be your guest! Excellent location-the birds and the breeze and the hiking through the woods was so relaxing.....plenty of wildlife....this is a Purple Marten Sanctuary with the snazziest "bird condos".....cardinals galore, woodpeckers, deer and more.....these Hosts are the Best!
