After 30 years living aboard a 58' schooner Patti and I moved ashore in Beaufort, NC. I am a restoration woodworker and have my shop on my property. We have a Winnebago ERA Sprinter Van RV that we enjoy. We are in the process of retiring and being able to travel more.
I am master woodworker, shipwright and millwright. I have a BFA degree in photography.
We have 2 outdoor cats and a rescue dog.We welcome pets!
Beaufort NC is a small coastal town on the lower outer banks. It is the 3rd oldest town in the state founded in 1709. It is the home of the North Carolina Maritime Museum and has many fine houses from the 18th and 19th century. I have restored many of them on the Beaufort Historic Site. My house is 3 blocks from the waterfront and an easy walk or bike ride to the entire town.

I enjoyed hosting this nice couple. They only stayed one day, but I hope they can stay longer in the future. Their dog was also a welcome guest and is well trained. People like like them are what makes being a host worth the effort.
We have boondocked at Crystal Coast several times, and got to return the favor. We have a wonderful time trading travel stories. They are always welcome here, and we look forward to their next boondock.
Both Tipper and his
lovely wife were very welcoming and made me feel very relaxed. I think my dog wanted to move in with them. They are extremely generous in their offer for electricity and a shower. True gems and well traveled make them very interesting people! Thank you for having us!
I had an absolutely amazing time during my stay with Tipper and Patti. There are welcoming, kind and generous, and shared many great ideas for what to do around the area. I really appreciate them and their hospitality!
Wow, this a difficult review to write, Our stay at Tipper's was just too good to not write effusively about it.
These people are special. Wicked smart, intensely interesting, well traveled and they exude the spirit of generosity.
We could hang out and talk with them for days on end.
The facilities at Tipper's are first rate. No list here, sorry, but you will be very pleasantly surprised.
This was our first trip to Beaufort and we didn't know what to expect. Riding bikes around the waterfront on a summery day in October was SO much better than expected. It's a sleepy little town with great architecture and some beautifully restored buildings. Downtown is small and quite charming. The "Old Burying Ground" is more interesting than you might guess.
But then it all comes back to the people. And these two are folks you really want to meet.
So appreciative of their hospitality and warm welcome. We felt completely safe and really enjoyed our stay. If our travels take us back through, we will go out of our way to stay with them again!
Thank you for the excellent accommodations. We were very comfortable and really enjoyed our visit and bike ride around your town. We would love to have you to Tampa and would love to come back sometime. Our favorite stop yet!
Tipperd and his wife greeted us on short notice and welcomed us in to the shade spot! Easy in and out! Had a great time exploring the historic homes and graveyard in town just blocks away. Everyone in town was super nice and helpful. Our hosts were fun to talk with andwe enjoyed being able to see some of the current home projects they were working on! We hope to stop back in next time we are on the coast!
Had some nice conversations and many similar interests. Perfect spot for a van. Short walk to the waterfront through a beautiful old part of town. Hope to visit again.
Tipper and his wife welcomed me in when I arrived. We shared stories before I headed off to bed after a long days drive. This is a nice quiet location.
Tipper helped me in the morning to fix my propane tank after I hit it on a parking stop.
Thanks for all the recommendations on my route south.
TipperD and his lovely wife greeted us with open arms. This was our first boondocking experience and just wow ! They were so wonderful sharing helpful details about this gorgeous area so we were able to get the most out of our visit. My words don't do our host or the community justice. Hope to get back some day.
Tripper is a good host. He offer a nice place to stay. Very quiet, the downtown forest!
Thanks to Tripper for this fabulous quick stop!
Another delightful stay ! We biked, walked, and enjoyed our hosts' company. Look forward to seeing you, here or there. All the best.
TipperD and his wife are very hospitable. We had a nice and quiet place in their backyard with plenty of privacy. They also came aside prom time to time to see if would have further needs. Had a lot of interesting and humorous talks with them. We would definitly come back.
Thanks, TipperD!
Tipper d and family...really are REAL people and made me feel at home right away...and helped me relax which I am very grateful to all. Highly recommend as a professional host...really hope to see them again sometime... definitely very kind and gracious... especially Micah their dog... she's definitely on a laid back schedule southern style.
What a treat. Superb hosts. Nice location, very gracious, lots of interesting stories. We connected immediately and want to keep in touch in future travels. Highly recommend this stay when in the NC coastal area.
So good to see you both. Appreciate the hospitality.
We enjoyed the Flotilla and Parade !
Hope we can all do a bicycle ride next time !
Tipper & Patti were great hosts, very accommodating and their location is really convenient for the town of Beaufort, just a few blocks walk to the waterfront. Sadly the weather cut short our stay but wouldn’t hesitate to recommend.
RVer's hosting RVer's.
Crystal Coast is RVer's hosting RVer's.
The swapping of travel stories, the biking and walking, the peaceful secure setting.
We simply love these folks.
It was a quick and short stay of one night. Met with Tipper and Patti... great people to talk to and very accommodating. My only regret... is that we didn't have time to share stories... There will be a next time I am sure and looking forward of actually sitting around and talking. They have a dog that is so friendly and a couple of kittens running around. Close to the downtown which we love and because of them we got to spend a couple of hours there before bedding down and splitting in the morning. Thanks so much to these two...
Dean and Percilla.
Good to see you again, albeit a little cooler than usual ! (First time i've ever seen Tipper don a coat !) You know we love to walk and bike Beaufort, and stop by Clyde Phillips for seafood. We did it all, thanks to you and your'e wonderful boondock ! All the best, hope to see you soon.
I enjoyed every minute of my stay with Tipper, his location is absolutely wonderful. He has a beautiful piece of property with a large gravel pad in the back. They are also just two blocks from the waterfront and the town of Beaufort is so fun to walk around!
Tipper himself is a very fascinating person and so easy to talk to! I really enjoyed getting to know him, he is very kind. Thank you Tipper for the hospitality, it was great meeting you! Hope to meet up again.

Mr & Mrs TipperD welcomed us to their boondock and we enjoyed a peaceful night.
We already miss you both, and wish you all the best.
Hope to see you soon - HERE or there !
Thanks again
We stayed with Tipper and his wife for only one night, but received a very warm welcome and great recommendations as we travel south. He even contacted a personal friend of his outside of Boondockers and set us up with him for a few nights in one of our future destinations. Extremely helpful and truly above and beyond. (And the cutest pup in all of Beaufort.)
Can't thank you guys enough!
... Stay with TipperD for a day or two. That aughta do it.
I recommend you visit TipperD.
I stake my membership on it - Period.
At your own risk.... You might leave with more travel ideas and inspiration than ever. The welcome was warm and the couple was fantastic. TipperD is without a doubt a very interesting person. We loved our stay here.
Beaufort is a charming city on the shore surrounded by great activities.
We stayed with TipperD and his wife a few days ago and have been trying to find the right words to describe them. They were wonderful and very interesting hosts, even after working all day she was happy spending time with us exchanging travel stories. Tipper's achievements in maintaining and restoring historic buildings is amazing. Sadly, we are slowly loosing tradesmen with the knowledge Tipper has accumulated over his lifetime.
Also, thank you for sharing your lovely friends with us. Highly recommended.
We consider ourselves so lucky to have spent time with TipperD and can't wait to see them again. They are incredible hosts, had the perfect parking for our truck camper, and made us feel like locals in beautiful, historical Beaufort, NC. Highly recommended.
We can not say enough about TipperD. They were wonderful hosts and the town is just lovely. So much to do We even saw wild horses on Rachel Carson wildlife preserve The maritime museum and historic buildings as well as the well maintained historic homes throughout the town were great . This town and our hosts were North Carolina gems.
We had a wonderful time in Beaufort, Tipper and Patty were very welcoming and helpful. There is much to see in this little town, we highly recommend the hosts and the town! Thanks for a wonderful stay!
