We are both retired. Becky was a music teacher and I am a respiratory therapist, past paramedic and EMT instructor. Currently involved with our county Emergency Management Agency. We are slowly, how else do retired folks do things?, getting into the RV'ing. But I personally want a skoolie to travel in. We are both active in our church. I have travelled to many third world countries, mostly medical mission trips, and have learned that the United Methodist motto - open minds, open hearts, open doors - is a good view.
As a ham radio operator I know some electrical and electronics. Becky is good with sewing and canning/cooking. As my hobbies cover many areas there are probably snippets of pearls hidden away
We have 2 basset hounds Max and Matilda (Mattie). They are brother and sister. Max is a big lover, Mattie is the pixie. Both like meeting people (especially children who will give them belly rubs) and other dogs. Limited exposure to cats so that would be interesting as we have no real idea how they would react. So far Max ha tried to play with them. They have tried to make friends with other animals. Except bunnies that Mattie wants to hunt. They both travel well.
We live just outside of the BIG town of Moro, IL. It has one church and a post office. Located in the metro area of St. Louis, MO.
We have recently changed from our 33' class A to a smaller 22 foot (OK, they actually say 21'11") travel trailer. We are now pulling it with a 2007 Chevy Silverado. Much better than my old Toyota Prius ;-) Actually, there is a bit of a long story for all of this - we can bore our guests/hosts with it LOL.
The host was awesome. He expertly guided us into our spot and was extremely helpful with site seeing and directions to things in the area.
These kind people provided wonderful easy directions, helped us get into our spot, and provided us electricity and offered water hookups. Which is very nice, but what makes this different is they had unexpected guests visiting and yet still took the time to make sure our stay was comfortable. Thank you.
Although the road in is gravel, we had no problems getting our travel trailer in and pulled into our area. There was a lot of room, and the host walked us right through how to navigate his property.
We would've loved to visit with this host as the little contact we had with them we have no doubt we would've enjoyed the stories. We'll definitely use this location again during our travels south.... and will look forward to our visit.
Really friendly people with a cool house. Conveniently located a safe distance from St. Louis work lots of helpful tips about navigating the city.
Would definitely stay again!
The Dome couldn’t possibly be more welcoming. They’re fantastic hosts, and we can’t wait to stay with them again.
We absolutely love this place and the hosts! Our 4 dogs and their 2 got along right from the start! (Which generally doesn't happen) This is the most skoolie friendly boondockers spot we went to so far! We will definetly stay here again so long as it's available.
Such a wonderful property and excellent
Generous hosts. Highly recommend staying here.
We didn't stay very long, but enjoyed the hospitality from our host n9wdq. It is a nice secluded area all within driving distance of Alton and St. Louis. Wish we ad more time but definitely would come back.
We had a great stay in this beautiful area. Direct 50amp plug was great. Traffic was no problem coming and going to St Louis even during rush hour times. Thanks!
We enjoyed our stay at The Dome! Our rig (42’ fifth wheel) fit comfortably in the space they provided and their ability to offer 50amp service was invaluable with the intense heat and humidity. We were a little nervous with the maneuvering needed to get into the spot (big loop on grass with a slight grade) but we didn’t have any trouble. Thank you for the hospitality!
They shared their driveway, power and basset hounds couldn’t ask for a more pleasant stop.
My family stayed for one night on our way down to St. Louis. They were very welcoming and extremely helpful as we backed our trailer in on a wet night. We only stayed one night, but would happily come again to spend more time in the area!
Extremely welcoming and helpful hosts. Helped us get into the best spot. Lovely property and surrounding areas. Wish we could have spent more time getting to know them.
This was a stellar stay in such a beautiful location and wow what a house! the host was more than welcoming and accommodating and it was fun sharing our appreciation for skoolies! If we are ever in the area we will be back again.
Host responded very quickly to our messages. Host provided detailed instructions that allowed us to get to his property easily. He also provided recommendations to our visit to Gateway Arch National Park. What a beautiful and unique house he has! The host welcomed us when we arrived and helped us park. He even helped hookup to his electrical 50 amp. It is a very quiet place. The host is a very smart gentleman with extraordinary conversations. We would love to come back to this location and would highly recommend this place.
Hosts are friendly and hospital! Their site is quiet and private. Leveling required. He was very helpful with providing weather alerts when severe storms rolled through the night of our arrival and offered the inside of their home if needed. His parking tips near the Gateway Arch were spot on! She gave a carillon concert nearby which we enjoyed! They are great people with welcoming basset hounds. Great spot for the St Louis area - ask for local area attractions and restaurants - they can help there too!!
We had an issue with our leveling system over the 4th of July holiday weekend when technicians and parts departments are not available. Dennis and Becky were patient and encouraging as we went through the process of getting our RV repaired and on the road. They even grilled hamburgers for us and had fresh asparagus from their garden. Fantastic experience with a truly gracious couple.
My hosts were lovely and hospitable. Dennis is super interesting and has great stories. The geodesic dome is an architectural wonder! They have two sweet Basset Hounds, Max and Matilda who seem to enjoy company and have the cutest faces 🥰 Would definitely stay here again!
We were treated like good friends at the Dome. Nice site with power and water in a quiet neighborhood. Check them out snd see what good neighbors are all about!
Spent 1 night @ the Dome. Due to rain, we weren't able to visit. Small world...we discovered we have someone in common because of their love of Bassett hounds.
The location was perfect for us on are way from Texas to Chicago. We had a problem with our hydraulics, and our host's were so helpful. We will go out of our way to stay there again.
This location is peaceful, and restful! The hosts are phenomenally kind. The property was so serene and I loved all the bird pics I got to take!! Great conversations, adorable dogs, bird watchers heaven, and mutual respect...can't ask for more!! Thank you so much can't wait to come back to the area again!!!
We had a great time staying at the Dome House They were so welcoming. Our youngest had an especially lovely time with them and their bassetts, Matty and Max. We were given great insights for our day trip to St Louis. We felt so very much at home and look forward to staying again.
We stayed at the Dome for 2 nights. They are very nice & super friendly. They love talking to their visitors. Great advice for easy access to downtown St. Louis.
Hosts at the Dome were incredibly helpful and welcoming. Detailed instructions for the best driving route to arrive in a big rig were provided in advance. D greeted us to assist in getting parked. We were admittedly a bit nervous about the turn around on a slope with our big class A but it worked out fine, as we were assured it would! There’s a fenced area for our dog to run and play with the sweet Bassets. The ability to dump grey water was awesome. And when we were faced with a tornado warning (!) we were welcomed into the geodesic dome tornado shelter and hung out for a while, plus allowed to stay an extra night for the storm to pass. Interesting and friendly folks and a perfect location to check out St. Louis and other area attractions such as the World’s Largest Catsup Bottle. 😀 Hosts have good local recommendations and advice as well. Thank you!!!
We LOVED the hosts! They were friendly, helpful and very knowledgeable!! The view was beautiful and the Dome is awesome!!
We will be back for another BBQ!!!
We had a lovely stay at the Dome. Our hosts were incredibly gracious and we had a nice chat. Very cool dome house! Nice quiet location. We would definitely stay with them again.
Wonderful hosts - felt very welcome! Had good conversation, a nice meal and a great nights sleep. Would definitely stay again if I am in the area.
Our hosts were very amazing. We arrived and they had another boondocker due to the weather but happily gave us a front yard spot and electricity. We greatly appreciated that especially with the weather. Also meeting other boondockers is just fun. Our host told us about how he got into dome homes and even gave us a tour. Which was really awesome. They had lots of good conversation and let us know what to see around town. They let me paint their dome home as well and stay a few more days. We will always be thankful for our stay.
We had a great stay and they were wonderful hosts. The weather didn't fully cooperate but a great stay nonetheless. Very peaceful place.
We had a great time with our host and hostess. While we were there we were able to visit family and friends. We fell in love with their Dome home. Wonderful visit!!!
We had a great stay at The Dome. It was quick and easy to get parked and plugged in. We got to visit with the host and enjoyed getting to hang out. The location is peaceful and just a short drive from the interstate. Thank you for everything!
Very hospitable and friendly. We enjoyed meeting them and learning about the area and their travels. We felt very comfortable and my boys really enjoyed playing with their dogs. Their home is really unique! We’d love to stay with them again when we’re passing through.
We loved our stay at the Dome. It's such a unique home and it was so wonderful to see. We had great conversation with our hosts as well. Plus, the site was level, quiet and a great location. Thank you for the hospitality!
Very cool dome and our host were wonderful! They’ve got a pretty cool set up, showed us some of their toys and went for a nice New Year’s walk to see the town’s Christmas lights. We even saw alpacas one morning! We would definitely go back! Maybe next time when it’s warmer!
The hosts were so gracious, friendly and accommodating! I literally felt like I was visiting family, which was so nice being close to the holidays! Their puppers were also so adorable! Overall, might be our best boondocking experience yet and can't wait to visit again! Thank you for such a wonderful visit!
We had a wonderful stay here at the Dome. The driveway is a hilly 2 track way back to their home. 2 adorable basset hounds with much character welcomed our dog Hammy. We had a peaceful night overlooking the alpacas. There’s a barn owl the calls goodnight to you and roosters to greet us in the morning when walking the dogs. Would highly recommend.
What a great host. Such nice people! Full of good recommendations for the immediate area and St. Louis. Our dog enjoyed playing with their dogs. We stayed in a 38’ fifth wheel. Would definitely stay here again if we are in the area.
n9wdq was a great host!!! He met us outside to guide us to our spot. We had a bit of a camper issue before we got to their house but made it just before dark. The dogs were so cute and we couldn't even hear them barking. We are very sorry we didn't get to say goodbye and we didn't get to meet his wife. We would have loved to visit longer and if we come thru that way again we will definitely stay. Thanks for being a great host!
We had a great time staying at The Dome! Our hosts were super friendly and helpful. They were able to give us great info about the area and tips to navigate traffic. The location is close to St. Louis but far enough to be quiet at night. We look forward to staying here again sometime and look forward to playing with the doggies. Thanks again!
The hosts were very accommodating and such nice people. We even stayed an extra night due to rain. They offered us electric, water and WiFi. Nice area with St Louis not far away. Definitely would recommend!
The Dome was a great place to stay. N9WDQ and wife was very accommadating by providing power and water. Got a greet in the morning from local barn owl hooting for a good 15 mins before flying off.
We had a great stay at The Dome. Wonderful friendly and helpful hosts and their adorable basset hounds.
A beautiful easily accessible property was a nice location for us to stay while visiting St Louis and biking the extensive local rail trail system. Looking forward to visiting with them again when our travels bring us back to the area.
Great location close to St Louis with wonderful hosts! Enjoyed my stay. Would definitely stop by again!
Great location and awesome hosts.
Communication regarding our stay was prompt (always helps), directions were very easy to follow.
The driveway entrance was marked with flags (another huge help).
Hosts were so welcoming upon arrival - along with Max and Matilda the adorable basset hounds (I could have cuddled up with those 2 all day)
Our parking spot was beautiful overlooking fields.
We really enjoyed a tour of the hosts’ unique dome home.
The Dome is a wonderful B W place to stay
Mr and Mrs n9wdq were great hosts, conversationalists and a very pleasant outgoing couple.
They have beautiful acreage with electric and water available. The Dome is magnificent also. With friendly pups. Enjoyed my morning walk. Hope to see them as they journey by my place
The host was great at communicating beforehand, responding promptly with helpful information. He was so thoughtful to have flashing lights for us, when we arrived later than we hoped & planned, so we could see their driveway. He gave us great directions & even dropped off our mail at the post office, going above & beyond. We enjoyed our time here & hope to meet again. He was a kind, generous man!
We arrived much later than we hoped & planned. The host was very understanding & thoughtful, flashing his truck lights on the road for our arrival on the dark road so we could see easily.
It’s pretty & peaceful here!
Grateful for the chance to enjoy a night at the Dome and spend some time getting to know n9wdq. We were greeted upon arrival. Made to feel at home and invited to ask for whatever we needed. We were sent off with a warm invitation to return. Great couple and beautiful property.
We had the best time at the dome! Even got a tour and was able to hand with the sweet pups! These hosts were more than accommodating to us. We felt completely spoiled. We will definitely be back. Thanks again for a great stay!
We had an easy and quiet stay at the Dome . The owners were helpful and attentive, very friendly. They have a unique and beautiful house and property.
I visited the Dome for the full 5 days & was offered more time.
I drove into St Louis on a nice day, but the Gateway Arch tour was not available due to Covid.
I had intended to visit the surrounding Park, but the local "action" convinced me to avoid it, so I visited the beautiful "Forest Park" instead. No regrets, I spent several hours here amongst other Covid respectful visitors.
Overall, my experience was excellent & YES, I would definitely return again if I was in the area.
Thank you very much,
Our hosts were phenomenal. A very gracious couple with two sweet Bassethounds. And I'm thankful our host had a project for my husband to keep his hands busy 😀. I would highly recommend staying here. Their home is unique and their property is lovely. Great place!! Definitely would love to visit again.
Hosts communicated via text clearly and frequently, showed us their Dome home, have 2 loving dogs, shared fresh picked blackberries, allowed us to trim their apple trees branches that were too close to the driveway, and shared many stories...albeit from a distance due to the coronavirus pandemic restrictions. The previous references descriptions of the location/driveway concerned us, but we were intrigued by the Dome and are so glad we stayed with them! They had placed signs with arrows at the end of the driveway, since you can't see the home from the main paved road. The driveway was gravel, standard road width but built up due to the lower grounds and hilly area around it. There's PLENTY of room (ours is 34' Fifth wheel) to navigate, even though there's a drop off on each side of the driveway which has a couple hilly dips in it too. Get out and walk the hill area to get an idea of where you're turning your rig around. The grassy turn around area is slanted, put your truck in 4WD and go for it (it could be a challenge if wet). It was easy and not at all the stress the previous references described, (but the weather could have been a factor for them). Would stay at the Dome again, enjoyed the location & kind hosts.
07/14/20-07/15/20 Hosts are very gracious, very friendly and very helpful. Got some great tips about fuel prices in the area, driving directions, backup cameras and Wifi extension poles. If Communication is essential to you, communication is what you will get! Instantaneous responses! Phenomenal! The town is in the country yet in the City. You’re not very far from the Interstate or conveniences. The Host patiently met us at the driveway. For extra-long 5th wheels this is a bit of a challenge but plenty doable as long as there has been no rain. If your pin box is higher and clears your pickup bed, it should not be a problem either. Motorhomes and smaller RV’s should never an issue. The 5th Wheel turning radius for us is the challenge due to our bed height and the pin box relationship. It limits our range of turning. There is a gravel road that leads to the house. Once there, it will be a drive into the grass field for a u-turn. That’s why the grounds need to be dry. There is a gentle slant as the turn is actually made. If your experience is limited, you might find this a bit intimidating at first. If you are moderately experienced, it’s not a problem. The 50A service provided by the gracious host will take about 50’ to reach. These are very fine people. You’ll love the stay. It’s very quiet here. The hosts love to hear and share stories and RV information. They have some interesting hobbies. The pup’s are a delight. Just a great time overall. We wish we had more time to spend with them on this trip. Thanks for the opportunity to stay! Would highly recommend. Would stay here again with the Host’s OK.
The Dome was a very welcoming and warm host. We received detailed directions prior to arrival and help with setting up for electric and water. We had a quiet evening with lovely view of the moonrise behind a thunderhead on the horizon. This location is best suited for smaller rigs as the drive in is a bit narrow and the parking area is on a grade. But it worked fine for us and we would stay here again.
n9wdq were such wonderful hosts. They helped us get parked and hooked up. We had a couple of minor issues with our camper while staying and they patiently helped us troubleshoot. It was fun to trade Minnie mods and stories with them. They were sweet with our girls and helpful in showing us local places to visit and eat. Thanks so much for your hospitality. Hope to see you again!
These two were so accommodating, interesting and fun to be with, it was like staying with cherished family. Courtesy rules prevent me from detailing all the wonderful experiences and stories they shared with us. Let me just say homemade pie was not the only treat we enjoyed. I would stay again in a minute if opportunity presents itself. Love the dome and the property. Retired but still giving of themselves to their community and beyond up to and including flying to Haiti, to help out. The world would be a better place if everyone tried to be a little more like them. We want to thank them for everything.
They were great hosts. Helped with parking and getting setup. Gave us a little history about rt. 66 history landmarks. Wished we could have investigated. But air-conditioning went out and had to take dogs with us. Very beautiful area. Nice breeze every night. They gave us fresh picked asparagus. Couldn't ask for a better host. Thank you.
We loved staying here! They are such welcoming humans! We loved running around their gorgeous yard. They were so gracious in hooking us up with water and electric while we were there. Becky even baked us an entire pie! Thank you for being so welcoming, considerate and inviting!
This host is super accommodating! We had a really nice talk when I arrived. Gave me a recommendation on toll tag options, which I'll use.
It was a nice quiet place. I'll be back on my next trip through the area.
Nice folks!! We planned on staying a few days but Unfortunately we couldn’t stay as long as we wanted to. n9wdq was happy to help with whatever we needed. We very much appreciated them letting us stay during this virus scare.
We’re very thankful they let us stayed at the dome. It’s a beautiful and comfortable place. They made sure we had everything we needed. We liked having electricity and water. Their dogs are very sweet and our kids enjoyed playing with them. We enjoyed talking to this nice couple. Very interesting and nice people. We were able to do a load of laundry before continuing our trip. We hope to see them again!
The dome was an outstanding place to stay and I would highly recommend. Dennis and Becky were gracious hosts. Will definitely use them next time we are near St Louis.
My first Boondockers Welcome far exceeded expectations. We had so many commonalities and similar interestes, talked a long time. They treat guests as family.
Our request for a stay was on short notice and our hosts were not home. Regardless, they offered to let us park at their home anyway. We were so grateful for their hospitality. It rained throughout the night and we awoke to a water leak. At this point, our hosts pointed us to the perfect RV repair shop which graciously got us in that morning. Thanks to their help, we were back on the road in three hours. The hosts at the Dome home were incredible. Their kindness made all the difference and we were so thankful.
We enjoyed our time at the Dome so much, it is a perfect location to explore St. Louis and the surrounding area.
The hosts were incredible, very fast communication and helpful directions to the property. The Dome sits on 5 acres of beautiful countryside, we enjoyed the sun/moon rises and sets. We were offered 50 Amp electric as well as fresh water and there is a dump station ~15 minutes away.
We enjoyed chatting with the hosts and touring The Dome itself, very unique and fun to learn about. We especially liked getting to meet the adorable resident Bassett Hounds, Max & Mattie are the sweetest...they even shared some of their homemade treats with our lab!
Our hosts had great info and suggestions for sites to see during our time, even gave us a map of the city. We never would have known to try Gus’ Pretzels if they hadn’t told us, and we loved that.
Thanks to our hosts for their kind, warm hospitality and for making our stay in the area so enjoyable.
While installing a couple of vent covers on our RV N9DWQ, the host, mentioned that he also had some to install. Knowing that he'd had a stroke a few years ago I offered to take a look at his needs if I finished in time to join my family in St. Louis for dinner. I completed both of our vents and his two that morning. Then he offered a home cooked meal to us. I had to decline as we already had meals planned with my Mom or Daughter for the whole time we were scheduled to be there. The next day his wife delivered a home baked apple pie made from apples grown on their property. It was the best apple pie that we've had in ages.
Very interesting stop. Lots of history and knowledge shared. Driveway is a little snug, but doable. The tour of the Dome was very interesting. Nice quiet place.
n9wdq was a great host for our short visit. Loved talking about ham radios and camping experience sharing. Loved the cool dome house that saves half the utilities versus other standard homes. Easy parking and electric hook up for the night. The hound dogs were very friendly and cute. Host is very knowledgeable about many technology subjects.
Quiet, peaceful, lovely place.
We enjoyed our stay. The hosts are fantastic and very helpful. We toured a little bit of St Louis and some of the area, the hosts gave us lots of ideas.
Thanks for the stay!
This location is outside of St. Louis- an easy drive into the city, and the host gave me a map and suggestions of things to do and see. He set out arrows so I could easily find his driveway, helped me into the level spot with hookups (declined my offer of a donation for E/W) and showed me around the property. Beautiful 5 acres is really peaceful in the country, but not far from shops/restaurants. Loved chatting with host and hope to pass through and stay with them again some day.
It was a hot 5 days ...
... But that was the worst of it. If you're passing through St. Louis you need to stop here.
Thank you so much for a safe place to park while we toured around your beautiful area.
Had a great visit. Folks were very friendly.
Outstanding host and great communication. Unfortunately we were on a tight schedule and didn’t have time to stick around. Thank you for your hospitality.
We are so grateful for such a wonderful first boondocking experience! We had some trouble getting in, but D. was an amazing help not only with getting us parked correctly - but also with navigating some other mechanical issues we faced. As new RV'ers, it was extremely helpful to have someone so willing to help.
We have 4 dog-loving daughters who fell in love with the resident basset hounds - and we loved that the girls were so welcomed to play with the pups.
The location was about 40 mins from St. Louis (which was why we chose this location to boondock) but D. & B. were so amazing telling us about other really cool things that we should see - like the sign indicating we're 1/4 around the world from Greenwich, the statue of the tallest man, AND we stumbled across an adorable sweets shop. We had just as much fun exploring Illinois as we did in St. Louis (which was also amazing - we did the Anheuser Busch tour and visited the Gateway Arch).
There is a lot more we'd like to see in the area - too much to squeeze into 2 nights - and we would love to stay at the Dome again the next time we pass through!
Positive experience with friendly hosts that included a tour of a unique cement dome house. We found a lot of common ground to discuss, from aviation and HAM radio, to farm skills. Getting in and out with a 13’ tall rig was tough, but we made it and really enjoyed the restful stay. We hope to host them in return next time they are in Texas. Such nice people, they wouldn’t even let me pay for 50amp.
Our hosts were exceptionally generous and hospitable, and we loved getting a comprehensive tour of their fascinating house. We hope we can visit again and spend some more time getting to know them.
Interesting Tour of local sites
I enjoyed the whole experience
Thank you for being a great Host
Made sure we felt at home and went out of their way to make sure we were comfortable… And we so appreciate that. We loved meeting you and your two dogs. You have a unique home and wonderful fur babies!
Our hosts were lovely and gracious! Very unique dome house. It was nice to be in a safe yard with my kids while my hubby traveled to Vancouver for work. Loved it! Thank you :)
Dennis and Becky were awesome hosts. Met me and guided me in. Hooked me up to elec & h20 & wifi and filled me in on things to see. I relaxed and got lots done in my camper. Would definitely recommend to anyone.
Wonderful host. Friendly and helpful people. Close to so many things to see. I made memories that I will cherish. They have great knowledge to share of the area. When you are in the area you should go by and see the tallest man that ever lived. Wonderful place to stay and visit. I really enjoyed their friendship and time spent together. Hope to see them again.
We had a wonderful time with the Dome! Cute Bassetts! Becky, The dinner was delicious! I loved the domed house, thanks for the grand tour and the great conversations! Thank you for letting us hang out with you!
Awesome location and hosts! My hosts were very welcoming and helpful with local hot spots and best ways to get around. We shared stories and went out to one of the local watering holes. Plenty of land and a fenced in back yard where our dogs could play together. Wonderful time and I hope our paths cross again.
When we arrived there was 5 inches of ice & snow on the driveway which is long & narrow. That made it interesting getting in and out. Becky met with us when we got in and assisted us in getting turned around so we could leave the next morning. She was a great help. The Dome is in very nice setting and we would love to return in the summer months.
We were delighted to meet Dennis and Becky and they welcomed us into their property with open arms. They helped us troubleshoot some power issues, invited us in for dinner and we shared stories and experiences with one another. We had a lot in common and look forward to crossing paths at the Dome again soon!
This host was incredibly helpful and understanding when we had to cancel last minute due to winter weather conditions. Hoping to stay sometime!
