We are in our late 50's.
Through family and friends we have learned that old age is not guaranteed, in fact tomorrow is not guaranteed, so we are not putting off what we want to do. That is to discover our own country; so we retired and are travelling around Canada and loving it!
We have converted a minivan and travel with our 8 year old cat, Holiday, she is an excellent traveller and great company for us.
We started in September and spent 4 weeks in Newfoundland which we absolutely LOVED!!! Our home base is Gananoque, Ontario, located on the St. Lawrence River in the Thousand Islands. At the moment of joining this group (Nov. 9th 2018) we are in Saskatoon and the cold weather is making the ability to plug into hydro very appealing. We would also enjoy the opportunity to meet hosts. So many of our wonderful memories center around people we have met in our travels.
Wow! This is an intimidating box to fill!
We both love baking and make a pretty mean meatloaf and scalloped potatoes. With access to a kitchen, which our minivan does not have, We would be very happy to prepare a meal for our hosts. Nothing fancy, just basic homestyle cooking.
Yes, we have our cat, Holiday, mentioned above.
She travels with us.
She is a scaredy cat when the sun is shining but when the sunsets she turns into a lion and if permitted will exit the vehicle in her harness and attached to a leash and explore the territory. She has no desire to stay out for long but it is good for her to stretch her legs every once in awhile. Other than the 1st 10 weeks of her life as a feral kitten Holiday has never done her "business" outside, she has a litter box and is very happy to use it.
Since starting our trek westward (in the cold weather) we have had great luck boondocking at Recreation Centres, many of which had outdoor plugs that we could make use of.
We have also had good luck boondocking at Vistor Centres and Casinos.
However our all time favorite is boondocking at the base of lighthouses in the Maritimes. There is just something majestic about these tall structures sending out warning signals to people travelling by water. The sound of the ocean rocking and rolling against the shore and the beautiful night sky. Definitely our favorite!
Gananoque, Ontario. Located on the St. Lawrence river in the Thousand Islands. It is just off the 401 highway, located between Kingston and Brockville. We own a house just outside of Gananoque and it has been rented out while we do our adventuring.
We are travelling in a Toyota Sienna minivan, not really a class B but there was no option for a minivan.
Wonderful to hear all about your winter on the island. We will meet again!
We enjoyed having a visit with them in the evening. We got some travel ideas from them and they got some from us. I even got a glimpse of their cat looking at me which they tell me is unusual.
Meeting these two ladies was fantastic.
They have embarked on a trip many would never try and seem to be enjoying it to the fullest KUDOS to them for following their dreams.
Although its not really the season for RVing we were able to accommodate them being it on the concrete pad in front of the garage for this visit. They are welcome back anytime.
We would have loved to be able to have a good visit with CatOnTheGo, unfortunately due to having the flu we were unable to do so.
If they would like to come again some time it would be our pleasure to host them.
What a pleasure it was to host these two lovey girls!
We admire their adventurism and great outlook on life, an inspiration for sure!
We wish them well on their travels and hope to see them back again in the summer time so they can truly appreciate what the West has to offer in a different season. We welcome them and their Kitty back anytime.
Please don’t hesitate to host these wonderful girls!
So these fine women offered to cook us supper in exchange for plugging in to our power!! What a wonderful gift!
Really admire these two traipsing across this country in November. Not exactly tourist season in Saskatchewan but we did have a wonderful visit ! Keep in touch and you are welcome back any time.
