Active person, walks 4 miles at least 3 times a week in the early mornings. Have 5th wheel and have traveled all 48 lower states, Alaska and all of Canada with the exception of two most center Northern Canadian territories.. When I worked for AT&T after retiring from the Marines,, I had the Southwestern states and Hawaii as my territory. I worked for AT&T almost 21 years before retiring from them.. During my 21 years in the Marines, I was an embassy guard for 2 years in Vienna, Austria where I met and married my wife. I normally after 4th of July I leave Florida in the summer and travel north to various northern states and or Canada. This year due to Corbin-19 I haven’t traveled.
When in the Marines, after my tour as an embassy guard, I worked 6 years as an aircraft radio technician then retrained as a Ground Controlled Approach Radar Technician. While with AT&T my first 5 years was as a microwave radio technician then as a supervisor for telephone electrical power, both AC and DC. I spent almost 21 years before retiring from AT&T. Presently, I do some woodwork in my shop which I built and enjoy. I help neighbors with whatever they need help with. I have a tractor and help neighbors using it when needed. I learned some welding though I would not call myself a welder.
No but I love dogs. My RV sites are fenced so dogs can have plenty of room to run and play. I also love my squirrels so would appreciate any one with dogs not allow them to chase the squirrels.
I have only stayed at 3 BDW sites since joining on a three week vacation to Canada one in SC and 2 in Ontario. I don’t think I have a favorite place yet. Previously I have been staying in state parks, military RV parks, Passport America parks and other private parks in my 19 years as an RVer.traveler.
I was raised in Jacksonville Beach, FL but my home town now is in the Bell, FL. area on the Suwannee River. I joined the Marines right after high school graduation retiring from the Marines in California after 21 years service. I found my job with AT&T soon after retiring from the Marine Corps so I remained in CA for 26 years until 2000 when I retired from AT&T. I returned to Florida where I had previously purchased my home just outside of Bell in what is known as the Rock Bluff community, 3 miles west of Bell on the Suwannee River.
2019 Winnebago Mini Winnie with 50 AM electrical cable but use a 50 to 30 amp adapter most of the time. 50 amp cable is heavy and gets very stiff in cold weather. My tow vehicle is a 2015 Dodge diesel Maxi Cab, white. I have a slide back hitch.
Charlie was a great host back in the winter when we boondocked at his place. He is also an AWESOME guest. Very easy to have visit. So experienced and knowledgeable. We had a really nice visit and conversations with Charlie and Sandra. We were so happy that they went a out of their way to visit us. We look forward to another, longer visit in the future!
Because of BDW we have two new friends!
CharlieJ is so friendly and accommodating. His little slice of paradise was like a private campground. Beautiful and quiet setting, other than some of the local boys with their loud mufflers....(or no mufflers) :) but they were fun to chat with too down at the corner store. Don't miss out on the slow cooked ribs and brisket while you're there.
Thanks CharlieJ, hope to see you again!
It was our first time using Boondockers Welcome and it was a great experience. First the location is beautiful and really quiet at night. The site and amenities were beyond expectations. But most of all, CharlieJ is a wonderful host that loves sharing about his town and county. Highly recommended.
Charlie was a delightful host. He is very friendly and very knowledgeable about many subjects. His place has great hookups and it is within driving distance to the most amazing springs in the area. I look forward to going back again in the future.
Very nice hookups and private area. Small market walking distance from site. Charlie made us feel very welcomed.
I’m new with the travel trailer and they were the most amazing hosts! They help me with some great RV tips. They were also very helpful and provided me with information on the local places. Thank you very much for your great hospitality!
We had a lovely stay at Charlie’s Suwannee River Home. Charlie is a very friendly and generous host. The site was private and well kept. We were invited to sit on the dock behind his home that overlooks a beautiful view of the river. We explored the area on our bikes and visited the corner store that was within walking distance. It was an enjoyable experience and we would like to visit here again. 😺
Can't believe we forgot to leave a reference for so long. We thoroughly enjoyed our time here and Charlie brought us over the best grapefruit we have ever had right from his trees. We would recommend this spot to anyone and if you catch them on the right day you could even go line dancing.
Charlie is absolutely wonderful and helpful starting helping us park and offering free full hookups to weary travelers if needed. The lot he offers up is gated so our normally leashed dogs were able to run free like they only can in a dog park. That was really nice for them!
Great host and great place, We had a very enjoyable stay at this beautiful location just off the Suwanee River. The host is a great guy that can’t do enough for you. We hope to come back again.
I stayed two nights, Charlie provided a printed sheet of places to eat, and things to do locally.
He also provided water and electric and even a flood light at night if wanted.
There was a place for a camp fire.
I highly recommend this host if you are in the area.
My family and I really enjoyed this host site. Our host was very friendly and accommodating. He provided us with information sheet for points of interest in the area. We enjoyed the peaceful nights and wildlife in the area. Will definitely stay again!
Charlie hosted us for another stay at his beautiful location as we had scheduled the body shop to do some work on our truck. Charlie graciously went above and beyond what was expected. People like him is what makes Boondockers Welcome so special. Thanks again Charlie!
A great host location location location great amenities Charle has gone out of his way to make your stay relaxing and enjoyable.Complete hook-ups. Secure location and the Swaunnee River.
Charlie's Suwanee River was just what we needed after a long ride. He's got a perfect setup for Boondockers - full hookups including a dump point, 30 amp, clean potable water with excellent pressure and even wifi! Minutes after we pulled up our host came over in his golf cart and handed us a bag of fresh grapefruit picked from his own tree. The wifi wasn't working so he drove into town to buy a new extender. His generosity and hospitality is far and beyond what is expected and he's quite funny too! We don't fish but this would be the place to go because he's right on the Suwannee River. The property is so quiet at night, I even heard an owl. He offered us a few extra nights but we already had reservations elsewhere. We'll definitely be back! Don't miss this place!
Great guy and lovely place. Enjoyed the grapefruit and utilized the list of things to do and see.
If you get up north Charlie, I have full hookups. Stay well,
This was hands down one of the best experiences we have had through Boondockers Welcome! The location is comfortable and secluded, has 50 and 30 amp service, clean water with good pressure, and a sewer hookup! Our host had just finished leaf blowing the site clear as we pulled up. The short back in was simple to maneuver. We had access to his back yard overlooking the beautiful Suwannee River, the bench swing, fire pit, and the floating dock down by the water. He came over and split enough firewood so we could have had a bonfire! The next morning he brought us a few delicious (and huge!) grapefruit that grew in his yard. We had as much good conversation as the Covid19 social distancing would allow. An exceptionally pleasant and comfortable stay with rare amenities. We thoroughly enjoyed our stay and would strongly recommend this location and host!
CharlieJ was great. We didn't have time to chat but he was very nice. He stopped by to say hello and dropped off a paper with points of interest in the local area. Easy to find place, easy to maneuver, but you do have to be able to back up through a gate. Thanks, CharlieJ...
Thank-you Charlie for your Hospitality. It was nice and dark, and quiet. We caught up on some Zzzz's. We checked out some of the springs in the area as well. We hope to make it back this way sometime..
Charlie was an incredible host! He was extremely welcoming and accommodating throughout our 3 night stay. He met us at check-in with fresh grapefruits and a list of local attractions. We checked out all the parks on his list during our stay and each of the springs were unique and picturesque. Would highly recommend spending some time at Charlie’s!
Places like this makes BW such a wonderful membership. You meet so many great people. Our host is on the top of the list. Goes above and beyond for guest. Always friendly, always helpful. We hope to be able to come back some day and visit again. We totally appreciate our extended stay, it helped us big time.
Time spent at this stop is hard to put into words. My Host/Hostess were the warmest and most fun souls I’ve met in Central Florida. Their kindness and attention to their guests is hard to top. Having room for more than one RV’r created an unexpected comradery coupled with a warm welcomed morning visit with Charlie each day. I was offered an extra nights stay, which was gratefully accepted. On a scale of 1 to 5, they’re rated 10+ 👍🏻
Our host could not have been more welcoming and helpful. It’s a lovely, treesy spot and he offers his back yard to view the beautiful river. He also provided an information sheet with lists of local restaurants and interesting parks, which we made good use of. He’s even willing to take you to a repair shop. Hope to come back.
CharlieJ is a wonderful host. His tree filled lot is like a small RV camp with all the amenities. I was even greeted with some fresh picked grapefruit!
Charlie received us on his beautiful property surrounded by trees bringing us grapefruits, so surprised to taste the difference when they are fresh picked! we were entitled to a second picking :) more the host gave us a sheet with all the activities to do around so well detailed and appreciated. Has given us access to its dock as we see fit. Finally you cannot find better, all services on site in addition to wi-fi.
If you pass by here a visit to this host is essential.

We enjoyed our stay at Charlie's Suwannee River Home. I sent our host a message with my estimated time of arrival. When we arrived, I was driving down the street slowly looking for street numbers. He pulled up his 4-wheeler to let us know where to park and hook up. Our host has a beautiful property, I enjoyed walking to the dock checking out the Suwannee River. I enjoyed our conversation; we have a lot in common. Thanks for the vitamin C.
I didn’t think our boondock stays could have gotten better, but here it did. Charlie was a most generous and kind host. He greeted us with a bag of fresh picked grapefruit. The site itself was across the street in his extra lot. Private and complete with amenities. Oh and let me mention the quiet of the night with the sound of calling owls. You can’t go wrong with this choice.
Fabulous, generous host with all the amenities. Would love to come back! Follow Charlie's directions, not Google, to get there quicker.
This is the second time I stayed with Charlie and as usual he was amazing! He took me to meet a Canadian band at his friends when I first got there. His girlfriend came over the next day (where I spent thanksgiving at with her family she was so kind)and we got caught up on our girl talk. Boondockers arrived that night beside me and we had great conversation and Charlie invited us over to his house by river for bonfire. Charlie let me pick grapefruits from his tree. His woods are beautifully kept up with showier&bathroom for the Boondockers. I paid him what I had, wish it could of been a lot more. Maybe I’ll send him a gift from home when I get there to show him my true appreciation for letting me stay on his property and thanks Charlie for treating me like family it felt great❤️❤️❤️❤️❤️❤️❤️❤️❤️❤️❤️❤️❤️🤗🤗🤗
This host was wonderful. He gave us a list of things going on in the area, some delicious grapefruit fresh from his tree and access to the river. Thanks for everything, Charlie!
Charlie was such a great host. He met us and got us situated. Lots of great conversations. Brought us the best grapefruit from his tree and a cartful of firewood for the firepit. We had a pleasant stay with other boondockers as well.
There are quite a few pretty parks to explore. If you will be in the area we recommend you staying here.
Charles received us at gus place as Family membre. All the descriptive of nos place la accurate.
We really enjoyed our stay and our exchange with him.
Thank you Charles for tour hospitality and we hope next time that we will have fishing stories for you.
We really enjoyed meeting this host, a kind and generous man. Not only did he allow us to use his nice bath/shower room in his workshop, he gave us a bag of juicy, fresh grapefruit from his tree! We only overnighted here, passing through, but it was a five star experience. Hopefully we will meet again next winter! Thank you, sir!
What a wonderful and generous host! CharlieJ met us with fresh grapefruit picked from his tree, provided power & wifi right away. Next day he took us on a drive to the Manatee Springs and provided some great information about the area. Last night we had a great campfire overlooking the river.
We look forward to seeing him again at the RVillage Rally in February....thanks CharlieJ!
We had a great visit. Charlie and Sandra are wonderful hosts. I would highly recommend a stop at their location. It was great to be in a rural location.
What a great place and awesome host. Peaceful location with full hookups. Charlie has really gone above what anyone could ask for as a boondocker. I spent my day exploring the many springs and small towns of the area. Thanks for the offer of grapefruit and to take me along to your favorite eating places.
CharlieJ was the most friendly and accommodating host, inviting us over for a fire pit conversation and offering grapefruit from his trees. Site was secure, quiet, level and provided pwr, water, & dump station. A mini campground. Down the road from his place, walking distance is a local park at a spring. Also a local convenience store with meals. We had an excellent stay to get refreshed before we head west. Thanks Charlie, I'm enjoying a grapefruit this morning!
Great helpful host. It was interesting to speak with Mr. Charlie.
Safe secure place.
Mr. Charlie was generous ... his homegrown grapefruits are good.
Watching the fish jump was nice and peaceful . Nice couple to spend time with ,
These folks were a pleasure to spend time with they helped us with any thing they could .
Would stop again on trips in the future. Thankful for your kindness.
Charlie was an awesome host and even brought us fresh fruit from his trees! We sat on the deck with other Boondockers while they fished off of his gorgeous deck. He even offered a fire pit..
Definitely a great place to stay!
We had a great time with our hosts. They were very gracious and neat people.
Thanks again for allowing us to stay on your property.
The boondocking site was perfect and our host was great! We appreciate such kind people.
Charlie was a fantastic host with a great property for boondocking. He checked in a few times to make sure we had everything we needed as well as gave us suggestions for restaurants and other activities in the area. We took his suggestion and visited a flea market with fresh produce and we enjoyed the trip. The site where we parked across the street from his house was private, fairly quiet (except rain from the trees), fenced in, spacious, has water and electricity and has a very nice bathroom and we would definitely recommend it to others. We didn't have a data signal for our phones using ProjectFi but we were able to get a good signal with Verizon and just enough wifi to do a little research about the area and check email and text messages. We had a fun evening playing Sequence and chatting with Charlie! Thanks for the lovely stay Charlie, we hope to visit again.
Very friendly people who are very including in any activities they were doing. Would definitely stay again. The park just down the street makes for a nice morning walk too.
Charlie and his lady friend treated me better than I’ve ever been treated in years. As soon as I got there they took me line dancing and out to eat. Then they invited me to their families thanksgiving dinner and made me feel so welcome it felt like I’ve known them for years. The site was gated, beautiful, wooded, quiet and secluded and he had a shower and restroom built I got to use next to my site. It was absolutely PURE HEAVEN! I’m sure I will never meet anyone more friendly or caring on this journey than Charlie and his lady friend. I am so grateful I met them. I will never forget them❤️
Beautiful river location nice quiet overnight wonderful person to stay at!
My family and I really enjoyed our stay with Charlie for two nights on our first Boondockers Welcome experience. Charlie responded to my request quickly and provided thorough detail to help with our arrival. He welcomed us on our arrival and was always reachable to answer any questions we had. My only wish is that I had more time to chat with him. Thank you, Charlie.
We enjoyed meeting Charlie. He gave great suggestions for our trip back west. Our dog really loved being able to run around his completely fenced in yard. The spring within walking distance and Charlie’s river dock were nice treats.
Nice quiet spot with full hookups if needed. Friendly host. Suwannee River and a cool water spring close by. A country store is near as well. As with most places it is best to arrive in daylight to easily find the gate entrance and navigate the trees. But it was ample space for our 33 foot motorhome, but we did unhook unhook our toad on the dirt neighborhood Road just before entering the gate. But that was no problem. Great night’s sleep with the AC on. Thanks Charlie!
Charlies place was my very first boondocking experience and he treated me and my dog like family. He gave me confidence and a bunch of tips about traveling on the road unbelievable generous and nice host. Me and my dog had plenty to do throughout the day surrounded by Florida's springs and Suwannee river it was an experience I'll keep with me for life.
We had to change our plans last minute due to weather. CharlieJ is wonderful. He gave us great directions and meet us as we arrived. He has a large gated area which allowed our dog Rizzo to run off leash. She had the best time!! We enjoyed sitting on the deck (behind his home across the road from the camping site) and enjoying the peaceful sites and sounds of the river. CharlieJ came to check on us in the morning and we enjoyed talking with him and getting to know him. We would definitely stay here again and would recommend this spot to anyone traveling through the area. Couldn't have asked for a better first experience!
CharlieJ was accommodating of our change of arrival time and stopped by to make sure we had everything we needed. An excellent host, and a veteran too! Thanks CharlieJ!
Great host surpassed only by the beauty of the Suwannee River. Excellent communication prior to arrival. Very nice RV sites. Barely a minute to walk across to his deck/dock.
Charlie did and offered way more than expected. He’s a proud, yet humble, US Marine who truly cares that you enjoy your stay. Most highly recommended.
We had a great visit! The site is very level and well shaded Our dogs loved the fenced in area to run around in. CharlieJ allowed us to access his floating dock so we could hang out by the river. We were also invited to play the board game Sequence with him. This is a must do spot to relax and take in the great river view!
Our host was ever so gracious! His place was just as described and just what we needed after a week of waiting for an RV part and unable to find available campground space during this spring break week. He met us with a bag of the freshest grapefruit this side of the Suwannee River! So delicious! Thank you so much for offering your space!!
One of the best Boondockers experiences we have had thus far! Our host met us at the gate, guided us in, provided printed info about the area, showed us around the site to make sure we had everything we needed to hook up, and even gifted us with fresh grapefruits from his tree. He was very kind--even gave our Yorkie a dog biscuit! Our stay was shorter than planned, as I have to have internet and phone service for my work, and AT&T is useless at this juncture. We were sad to leave, and will certainly plan to come back when AT&T gets better or when we change our provider.
Thanks, Charlie, for a great night's stay! We enjoyed the time we had with you.
We thoroughly enjoyed Charlie and our stay at his place. Game nights, dinner and breakfast in town made our stay even more special. We hope to see our new friend again next time we are up his way.
Can’t think of a kinder, more generous host to introduce us to Boondocking. We were greeted at the gate on arrival, and checked upon periodically. This host really cares! The pretty woodlot property is flat and well maintained. Learned about the area, shared RV stories and had a memorable time by the fire. Two thumbs up! We hope to be back.
This is a very pretty spot on the river! And our host was so welcoming- we all went out for dinner then off to his friend’s place for live music around a campfire. Such an unexpected treat. Thanks Charlie🚐 we had so much fun.
We had a great time at Charlies place. His location is beautiful. Wooded and quiet. We had some tire troubles and he bent over backwards to help us with that, which was much appreciated. He invited us to go out dinner with his friends, family and some other boondockers. We had a fun evening listening to some great live music and meeting new people. He can accommodate more then one rig and we got to know another boondocking couple from Canada who was staying next to us. I am sorry that we beat Charlie in the Sequence game but that's the way it went. He was a bit handicapped by his new Canadian partner who was new to the game. :) I would highly recommend Charlie's boondocking spot.
Wow, peace and quiet on a beautifully treed property. Hosted by one of the kindest and generous person we’ve met.
The campsite is across the (quiet)road from Charlie’s house which overlooks the Suwannee River. So nice! Flowering shrubs and fruit trees in the yard. The freshest sweetest grapefruit I’ve ever tasted.
Charlie made us feel so comfortable. He taught us how to play a game called ‘sequence’ ...fun, lots of laughs! Dinner out at one of Charlie’s favourite spots was delicious! And we had some great conversations with Charlie and other Boondockers.
Being the nice guy he is, Charlie followed us to the GM dealership when we were having truck issues. Not only did he make sure we got there okay but he took us on a tour of the area while we waited for the truck.
We really feel like we’ve made a new friend. And hope that one day, Charlie will travel north and boon-dock at our place. We definitely would love to return to Charlie’s Suwannee River! Thank you, Charlie!
What a great host and location. The river was amazing and the host makes you feel right at home. Hoping to visit again in the fall.
Host is very friendly, generous and accommodating. He was very kind to us. He has a good sense of humor. He brought happiness in our life. His place is private, has big trees, near Suwanne River and is across from his house.
Charlie was a perfect host. He was helpful, friendly, informative and very accommodating. We felt like we were at a campground with full hook up but a lot better. Went to dinner with Charlie, his friends and he introduced us to other boondockers. Spent an enjoyable evening swapping stories and boondocker experiences.
We stayed 2 nights in a full hookup fenced in area. Our host was gracious. We had the best grapefruit from his tree, met and had dinner with his friends, enjoyed seeing the Suwanee River and learning the local history. This was our first boondocking experience through Boondockers Welcome and we would definitely return if our travels take us back that way!
We had a fantastic 3 night stay @ Charlie’s place and were connected to 30 amp power and water. Our rig has tiny tanks and we so appreciated the drain between our site and the bigger rig site next to us. For us the utilities were on the opposite side than our connections but we had no trouble connecting. Charlie is a super host... friendly and informative about the area. He gave us a print out with reviews of local restaurants, etc. He also told me about places to fish. This is a peaceful oasis in North Florida... highly recommended.
Great set up, water sewer 30 and 50 amp. Charlie has gone out of his way to make it comfortable for us! Thanks so much Charlie.
Hosts were more than accommodating. They offer a large fully serviced campsite which we did not take advantage of as we prefer to dry camp or boondock. Invited in to play a competitive game of. Sequence which we very much enjoyed.
We would stay again.
The site is on a lot probably at least an acre across from Charlie's house. It is where he keeps his RV and some equipment and is totally fenced in which our dog loved. A five minute walk to a county park at the Suwannee River and a most of everything general store. We rode our bikes into Bell, about 45 minutes, for some great BBQ. Charlie invited us to his lighted patio and dock area to just relax.
Charlie took us in when another host had to decline due to high water. We had a great one night stay, and really enjoyed visiting with our host. Another time, we’d stay longer and enjoy exploring the area.
Felt like family. Went out to eat with them at a great place and had an interesting visit on his deck by the river. Boondockers Welcome has so many great hosts!!
Our stay with this host was great! We had plenty of space in the lot across from his home. He has room for 2 rigs, but we had it all to ourselves. We had 30amp, water, and dump! Land was pretty level. We had access to a bathroom in his shop. He let our kids pick a few grapefruits from his tree. We've never had it that "fresh" before! The river was flooded during our visit, so no fishing. Our Verizon signal was good. There is a small "general" store within walking distance. Our host did give a list of nearby towns and restaurants. We had work to do, so we didn't venture out from our site. The property has tall trees to provide plenty of shade. Aside from the occasional barking dog, it was very quiet.
CharlieJ is a very gracious host. We thoroughly enjoyed our time with him and his wonderful friends. Thanks Charlie for a great visit - hope we can do it again sometime
The place felt like a mini park campground. Very interesting area walked to the Suwanne River with its tannic acid brown water. Got a lesson in RV power supply. Will be back.
He was a wonderful host, we showed up much later than our GPS told us we would, but when we arrived he was there waiting to open the gate to his beautiful fenced in location with hookups. Having ATT I had little cell service in the area, but that wasn't a bother. In the morning we took pictures picking the absolute best grapefruits I've ever had, and we picked a few for the road. We liked the area so much we stayed an extra day.
We spent 2 quiet nights at Charlie’s and appreciated both how safe we felt and how kind he was to us. He even printed out a page of useful local information. We look forward to staying with him again in the future.
Charles is a warm and inviting host. We went to dinner & played "sequence" that night. We are staying a second night for a fish fry (my first)! We would HIGHLY recommend this location.
The site is in a beautiful spot with all the bells and whistles desired by RVers. Charlie is a very accommodating host and is a very interesting person. Would have liked to heard more of his life stories. He is Great American Veteran!
Very friendly host. Location very private, on the other side of the road from the house. Short walk to the river, 5 mins. Would be great for kayaking but right now the river is very high with flood watches in other parts of the river. This location does not flood as it is higher up, but the river is to swift tor kayak.
