Active person, walks 3 to 4 miles most every morning. Have 5th wheel and have traveled all 48 lower states, Alaska and all of Canada with the exception of two most center Canadian territories.. When I worked for AT&T after retiring from the Marines,, I had the Southwestern states and Hawaii as my territory. I worked for AT&T almost 21 years before retiring from them.. During my 21 years in the Marines, I was an embassy guard for 2 years in Vienna, Austria where I met and married my wife. I leave Florida in the summer and travel north to various northern states and or Canada.
When in the Marines, after my tour as an embassy guard, I worked 6 years as an aircraft radio technician then retrained as a Ground Controlled Approach Radar Technician. While with AT&T my first 5 years was as a microwave radio technician then as a supervisor for telephone electrical power, both AC and DC. Presently, I do some woodwork in my shop which I built and enjoy helping neighbors with whatever they need help with. I have a tractor and help neighbors using it when needed. I dealt with electricity and learned some welding though I would not call myself a welder.
No but I love dogs. My RV sites are fenced so dogs can have plenty of room to run and play. I also love my squirrels so would appreciate any one with dogs not allow them to chase the squirrels.
Being new to Boondockerswelcome, I have done no boondocking as yet. I have been staying in state parks, military RV parks, Passport America parks and other private parks as I traveled. I have been traveling in RVs since 2001.
I was raised in Jacksonville Beach, FL but my home town now is Bell, FL. I joined the Marines right after high school graduation retiring from the Marines in California after 21 years service. I found my job with AT&T soon after retiring from the Marine Corps so I remained there in CA for 26 years until 2000 when I retired from AT&T. I returned to Florida where I had previously purchased my home just outside of Bell in what is known as the Rock Bluff community, 3 miles west of Bell on the Suwannee River.
2019 Winnebago Mini Winnie with 50 AM electrical cable but use a 50 to 30 amp adapter most of the time. 50 amp cable is heavy and gets very stiff in cold weather. My tow vehicle is a 2015 Dodge diesel Maxi Cab, white. I have a slide back hitch.
We had a great visit! The site is very level and well shaded Our dogs loved the fenced in area to run around in. CharlieJ allowed us to access his floating dock so we could hang out by the river. We were also invited to play the board game Sequence with him. This is a must do spot to relax and take in the great river view!
Our host was ever so gracious! His place was just as described and just what we needed after a week of waiting for an RV part and unable to find available campground space during this spring break week. He met us with a bag of the freshest grapefruit this side of the Suwannee River! So delicious! Thank you so much for offering your space!!
One of the best Boondockers experiences we have had thus far! Our host met us at the gate, guided us in, provided printed info about the area, showed us around the site to make sure we had everything we needed to hook up, and even gifted us with fresh grapefruits from his tree. He was very kind--even gave our Yorkie a dog biscuit! Our stay was shorter than planned, as I have to have internet and phone service for my work, and AT&T is useless at this juncture. We were sad to leave, and will certainly plan to come back when AT&T gets better or when we change our provider.
Thanks, Charlie, for a great night's stay! We enjoyed the time we had with you.
We thoroughly enjoyed Charlie and our stay at his place. Game nights, dinner and breakfast in town made our stay even more special. We hope to see our new friend again next time we are up his way.
Can’t think of a kinder, more generous host to introduce us to Boondocking. We were greeted at the gate on arrival, and checked upon periodically. This host really cares! The pretty woodlot property is flat and well maintained. Learned about the area, shared RV stories and had a memorable time by the fire. Two thumbs up! We hope to be back.
This is a very pretty spot on the river! And our host was so welcoming- we all went out for dinner then off to his friend’s place for live music around a campfire. Such an unexpected treat. Thanks Charlie🚐 we had so much fun.
We had a great time at Charlies place. His location is beautiful. Wooded and quiet. We had some tire troubles and he bent over backwards to help us with that, which was much appreciated. He invited us to go out dinner with his friends, family and some other boondockers. We had a fun evening listening to some great live music and meeting new people. He can accommodate more then one rig and we got to know another boondocking couple from Canada who was staying next to us. I am sorry that we beat Charlie in the Sequence game but that's the way it went. He was a bit handicapped by his new Canadian partner who was new to the game. :) I would highly recommend Charlie's boondocking spot.
Wow, peace and quiet on a beautifully treed property. Hosted by one of the kindest and generous person we’ve met.
The campsite is across the (quiet)road from Charlie’s house which overlooks the Suwannee River. So nice! Flowering shrubs and fruit trees in the yard. The freshest sweetest grapefruit I’ve ever tasted.
Charlie made us feel so comfortable. He taught us how to play a game called ‘sequence’ ...fun, lots of laughs! Dinner out at one of Charlie’s favourite spots was delicious! And we had some great conversations with Charlie and other Boondockers.
Being the nice guy he is, Charlie followed us to the GM dealership when we were having truck issues. Not only did he make sure we got there okay but he took us on a tour of the area while we waited for the truck.
We really feel like we’ve made a new friend. And hope that one day, Charlie will travel north and boon-dock at our place. We definitely would love to return to Charlie’s Suwannee River! Thank you, Charlie!
What a great host and location. The river was amazing and the host makes you feel right at home. Hoping to visit again in the fall.
Host is very friendly, generous and accommodating. He was very kind to us. He has a good sense of humor. He brought happiness in our life. His place is private, has big trees, near Suwanne River and is across from his house.
Charlie was a perfect host. He was helpful, friendly, informative and very accommodating. We felt like we were at a campground with full hook up but a lot better. Went to dinner with Charlie, his friends and he introduced us to other boondockers. Spent an enjoyable evening swapping stories and boondocker experiences.
We stayed 2 nights in a full hookup fenced in area. Our host was gracious. We had the best grapefruit from his tree, met and had dinner with his friends, enjoyed seeing the Suwanee River and learning the local history. This was our first boondocking experience through Boondockers Welcome and we would definitely return if our travels take us back that way!
We had a fantastic 3 night stay @ Charlie’s place and were connected to 30 amp power and water. Our rig has tiny tanks and we so appreciated the drain between our site and the bigger rig site next to us. For us the utilities were on the opposite side than our connections but we had no trouble connecting. Charlie is a super host... friendly and informative about the area. He gave us a print out with reviews of local restaurants, etc. He also told me about places to fish. This is a peaceful oasis in North Florida... highly recommended.
Great set up, water sewer 30 and 50 amp. Charlie has gone out of his way to make it comfortable for us! Thanks so much Charlie.
Hosts were more than accommodating. They offer a large fully serviced campsite which we did not take advantage of as we prefer to dry camp or boondock. Invited in to play a competitive game of. Sequence which we very much enjoyed.
We would stay again.
The site is on a lot probably at least an acre across from Charlie's house. It is where he keeps his RV and some equipment and is totally fenced in which our dog loved. A five minute walk to a county park at the Suwannee River and a most of everything general store. We rode our bikes into Bell, about 45 minutes, for some great BBQ. Charlie invited us to his lighted patio and dock area to just relax.
Charlie took us in when another host had to decline due to high water. We had a great one night stay, and really enjoyed visiting with our host. Another time, we’d stay longer and enjoy exploring the area.
Felt like family. Went out to eat with them at a great place and had an interesting visit on his deck by the river. Boondockers Welcome has so many great hosts!!
Our stay with this host was great! We had plenty of space in the lot across from his home. He has room for 2 rigs, but we had it all to ourselves. We had 30amp, water, and dump! Land was pretty level. We had access to a bathroom in his shop. He let our kids pick a few grapefruits from his tree. We've never had it that "fresh" before! The river was flooded during our visit, so no fishing. Our Verizon signal was good. There is a small "general" store within walking distance. Our host did give a list of nearby towns and restaurants. We had work to do, so we didn't venture out from our site. The property has tall trees to provide plenty of shade. Aside from the occasional barking dog, it was very quiet.
CharlieJ is a very gracious host. We thoroughly enjoyed our time with him and his wonderful friends. Thanks Charlie for a great visit - hope we can do it again sometime
The place felt like a mini park campground. Very interesting area walked to the Suwanne River with its tannic acid brown water. Got a lesson in RV power supply. Will be back.
He was a wonderful host, we showed up much later than our GPS told us we would, but when we arrived he was there waiting to open the gate to his beautiful fenced in location with hookups. Having ATT I had little cell service in the area, but that wasn't a bother. In the morning we took pictures picking the absolute best grapefruits I've ever had, and we picked a few for the road. We liked the area so much we stayed an extra day.
We spent 2 quiet nights at Charlie’s and appreciated both how safe we felt and how kind he was to us. He even printed out a page of useful local information. We look forward to staying with him again in the future.
Charles is a warm and inviting host. We went to dinner & played "sequence" that night. We are staying a second night for a fish fry (my first)! We would HIGHLY recommend this location.
The site is in a beautiful spot with all the bells and whistles desired by RVers. Charlie is a very accommodating host and is a very interesting person. Would have liked to heard more of his life stories. He is Great American Veteran!
Very friendly host. Location very private, on the other side of the road from the house. Short walk to the river, 5 mins. Would be great for kayaking but right now the river is very high with flood watches in other parts of the river. This location does not flood as it is higher up, but the river is to swift tor kayak.
