My wife and I are still enjoying our first date...after 32 years of a blessed and joyful marriage. We enjoy mountain biking, snow skiing/boarding, fishing, boating, sailing, camping, off-road adventures, overlanding, flying (3,700 hours as PIC) cooking and eating. No smoke or drugs...but do enjoy an adult beverage (all things in moderation...always!).
Kathy is a Microsoft Systems Engineer and works for a local computer company where she builds and maintains networking systems for large corporate clients. Travis is retired and is a RN (Registered Nurse) by trade, but has spent the past 20 years in administrative management managing various healthcare organizations before retiring in 2016. Travis also started a company that produced and sold Colloidal Silver. The business was sold to a national competitor in 2018 but Travis retained the right to produce and sell locally to friends and family. Nothing better that supporting the body with healthy, natural alternatives!
We are straight up and honest in all things we do. We are very physically active and enjoy being on the move! We have been blessed with an amazing life together.
Camping Experience:
Bought my first camper, a Winnebago when I was 19 years old. Since then I/we have owned 4 motor-homes, 8 travel trailers, 4 pop-ups and 3 micro/motorcycle campers. I have towed a motorcycle camper in excess of 180k miles. As of December 2020, we have purchased a Keystone Cougar 276RLS fifth wheel. We also backpack/hike and hammock camp as well as tent camp. We also do off-road/overlanding type camping. In our larger sailboat we do 1-5 day trips and the small trimaran sailboat we beach-camp off of it. We also have a Prius v that we did a camper conversion on. It sleeps the two of us in air conditioned or heated comfort for about 1/2 gallon of gas per night, has a refrigerator/freezer, 7 gallon water system, heated with outside shower, portable toilet and a side awning. So....we continue to enjoy many aspects of camping. That said...they is not much in the way of camping, camping equipment and techniques that we haven't experienced! Life is good!
Healthcare (standard and homeopathic) electrical, mechanical, plumbing...general repair.
D'Ogee, our dog. She is an Australian Shepherd & Pit Bull mix. She is a working dog that sleeps during the day and works all night...very protective when "on duty". About every 12-13 minutes during the night, she exits the house (doggie door) and patrols the yard, sniffing and zigzagging, and also goes in the chicken coop to check on the girls. She sleeps by a speaker so she can hear anything that is happening outside. She keeps company with our 11 pet backyard chickens (yes, they have names). They free range our 1 acre home site on the River.
We occasionally will travel with D'Ogee. She is easy to travel with, well mannered and still protects us while on the road. While a couple of the chickens are fascinated with getting in the car and either sitting on the dash or steering wheel...we do not travel with them! LOL
Mobile, AL USA Located on Beautiful Dog River
2007 Keystone Cougar 276-RLS. 30 amp service (can get by with 15 amp). Very nice and well maintained. It has a large slide on the left side that must be at least partially extended. Our tow vehicle is a 2008 Dodge Ram 2500, 4x4, Megacab with the Cummins 6.7 diesel. It is a beast and tows the Cougar easily.
An quick over night stay but we had a chance to visit for a few minutes and we learned of some great locations to travel to and visit. Hope to see you in Wyoming/Montana someday.
We had some very nice conversation on the patio with Flyboy and his cousin. They were very informational on their travels, and wonderful guests to host at our host site. Welcome back anytime.
FLYBOYTR, These could not have been more considerate guests, keeping us fully informed as they traveled to Cheyenne from Cody, WY, which is a hike for a single day! We break it up into a two-day trip, usually camping overnight in the Thermopolis Canyon along the Wind River! My hat's off to them! Travis topped off his freshwater, then proceeded to the RV box for power. We chatted while he completed his water fill, then I had to attend to our dinner guests. They were very respectful of our property, always asking prior to doing! Very thoughtful and appreciated! FLYBOYTR and guests are welcome back anytime! Becky & George
We so enjoyed FlyboyTR's returning to stay and visit with us. We caught up on things in his life and our life. He is the perfect guest. We hope he will return again if his travels take him this direction. Always a bright day for us.
FlyboyTR spent one short stay on their trip west. While here I learned so much about his rig, plants on my own land and a mine in Montana. The best part of hosting Boondockers are the people you meet, and these were two of the best. Always welcome.
Travis and his friend were great to have as guests. We had a lot in common and had some great conversations! I wish him the best and he is ALWAYS welcome back! Take care man!
It was a pleasure to have FlyboyTR as a guest. Their communication was fantastic, and were very easy guests to host. I would recommend them to any host!
Our guest and his friend were so nice. We spent several hours visiting with them. They were so interesting. We would be happy for them to return any time.
This is a great couple. They were super helpful and were great to talk to. We loved the site it is beautiful and easy to set up on. We had no problems while we were there and will definitely stay there again. My cats loved watching the chickens through the windows.
We had a wonderful stay with Kathy and Travis! They have a beautiful view of the Dog River with fantastic sunsets. We had great conversations and we just really enjoyed their company. Hope to visit with them again.
We had a spectacular time at FlyboyTR place! They are the nicest people you could meet! Was able to sit out on the dock to watch the sunset, have a fire, and incredible conversation! They were so welcoming and even gifted us fresh eggs from their chickens, as well as helping us fill our tires up! We are very grateful for their hospitality and hope to be back again!
FlyboyTR @ The Steel Magnolia stay was great. This was our first Boondockers Welcome and from the moment we got there they made sure we had everything we needed to set-up and get settled in for the night. The spot offered a beautiful view of the sunset along the River and we were lucky enough to have a full moon rise right in front of us. We felt very comfortable and enjoyed the info that Travis had to offer. Thank you both for making our first experience a smooth and easy stay. Till we meet again, Heather & Tom
Kathy and Travis are superb hosts, who go above an beyond to make guests feel welcome. Location has safety measures of a gate with an alarm and a protective watch-d-o-g. Travis has been learning about RV life through experience since he was 19 so was able to give a newbie so many valuable tips and tricks. Kathy shared delicious (spicy!) homemade soup and a carton of fresh eggs from their girls! I had to work online most of the time and their internet connection was great. Had a really nice time sitting on their dock chatting and a wee fire the last night. So grateful to have met these folks and I look forward to meeting up with them in the future!

It is a beautiful spot on the river and the hosts are terrific! They made us feel like family and we thoroughly enjoyed visiting with them a bit while we were there.
Good level parking in a secure area.
Afraid that if I give a 6 star rating the next time we pass by there will be no room.
Afraid that if I really say how nice a couple they are that others will monopolize them to the point that they won't be able to reply to my request to stay.
Afraid that if I say how much we enjoyed the sunset and chat around the campfire on the dock.
Afraid that if I say how much info can be gained by this smart couple others will flock there.
Afraid this couple is top shelf.
I am afraid I put a star by this listing so I can make it stand out.
It was a pleasure to stay here. The host were wonderful and accommodating. Will definitely stay here again.
A very comfortable setting for an overnight stay. Overlooking the Dog River, quiet and level. We communicated well to be sure I got there and when. And just minutes off I-10 in Mobile. Many thanks, and I hope to have a chance to stay again!
Fantastic experience. Good conversation and they went out of their way to accommodate me. Great spot by the river!
We spent 2 nights at The Steel Magnolia with hosts flyboy TR and his wife on the Dog River. Flyby TR was very helpful in getting us in and set up. We enjoyed our stay and spent a wonderful night sitting by a fire near the river and then the next night had a great dinner that Flyboy TR made. These are some great people.
Thanks for everything, we so enjoyed our stay
After a trying day. This stop was perfect. Wonderful to meet my hosts. Helpful too enjoyed them as well
We had a great stay! There was great communication leading up to the stay. They welcomed us like family. When we arrived they showed us around their property. The kids loved seeing the chickens. Their dog was just as excited to see the my kids as they were to pet it! The River was beautiful. There was plenty of room for our slide outs. They were generous to provide electricity and water. I would highly recommend staying at the steel magnolia!
We spent 1 night at the Steel Magnolia on our way west. Travis and Kathy were so warm and welcoming. We had a nice dinner with them at a local restaurant and Travis had lots of great camper tips for these newbies to trailer camping!
This was our first experience with Boondockers and it was superb! Any place else we stay is going to have a hard act to follow! Such a relaxing atmosphere and wonderful hosts!
We travel each year 4-5 months and do a lot of boondocking. And sometimes we come at a Very special place: good communication, nice talkings, friendly people, Great and peaceful place, nice drinks and a good diner etc etc. Steel Magnolia has it all!! Kathy and Travis thank you so much. Hope to come again when we come back to the USA. Love, Johan and Loes
We really enjoyed our stay at The Steel Magnolia. They are a friendly, fun couple.
They have a nice location on the river. These folks are also a fount of knowledge relating to health and many activities (see their profile). Hope to see them again soon!
